this is great..but. I just started BJJ. I fell backwards and bent my foot backwards. felt a crunch. its been 3 weeks. I can walk fine but it hurts with inversion. especially over the "cuboid" bone region. i believe i sprained my foot. but man it sucks. my ankle never hurt it was my foot that swelled over the cuboid region. I laugh. said i put myself in an advance move. foot locked myself.
@@TheJiuJitsuTherapist Thanks. Got an ASO. I look at the damage as a good thing for it keeps me going slow while learning the techniques and not focusing on speed or power.
I need help. Some idiot got me in an ankle lock 6 months ago and held it for a lot of seconds. I had very hard pain but I dont think I heard a snap or some noise. Now I still get pain when bycycling long or stretching my ankle too much. Do you think I still can rehab It with exercises? I dont wanan get surgery cuz 1. Im scared of it (pussylike) and 2. I dont want a new training stop cuz of such a stupid injury. I didnt notice a swelling if i remember right. Problem is I continued squatting and stretching...
How about the knee. I got caught with a heel hook. I tapped as fast as I could. The inside of my knee just feels sore and a little irritated. Any ideas on faster recovery?
Gentle movement that’s not painful...stationary bike. Light stretching to the hip and knee if needed. Hip strengthening and then gradual return to activity as you tolerate. Let pain be your guide.
I got caught in a toe hold with very little pressure and my ankle popped during an open mat. It didn't swell at all, just felt pain in certain motions/positions. That was like 3-4 weeks ago. I just competed in a small comp at our academy and got caught in the same exact thing on the OTHER ankle! Needless to say, I need to do these on both ankles now... and stay away from toe holds
I am a little late to the party 😅 but I like the excercises you are showing, most of the movements I feel like the body will automatically try to do to see what hurts and what doesn't. But great idea with the bands haven't thought about that. I also wanna add my 2 cents after I torn my MCL and later got ankle locked by my motorbike 😂 So I'm not a fan of ice it may reduce the swelling sure but I think the swelling is needed because it gives my ankle/knee/foot whatever the stability needed to use my leg, it's similar to a cast in my opinion. The body does that for a reason. Also ligaments have very little blood flow already so reducing that with ice in my opinion and experience does not help in the healing process. I recovered from my MCL tear in about 2 months and was back on the mats but I always used pressure massage trying to get more blood flow into my knee and a heating creme that burned like hell but it was worth it! Same now with my ankle unfortunately I dont have the creme on my because I'm traveling but I rested for maybe a day it was really swollen for like 5 days now 10 days later just a little bit and I have torn/sprained more than 1 ligament (fortunately no bones broken) but I just took it a little bit lighter and I was riding on my bike so didn't really put much weight on it the first few dasy. Now I'm pressing and massaging all the ligaments that I can reach even if it hurts a little this does (for me) speed up my recovery significantctly. (I need to heal quickly because I booked a BJJ training camp in about a week and I definitely don't want to be just a spectator 😂) But also wont be doing crazy training but I can walk almost normal and without pain. Definitely don't like stretch the ligaments but press on them massage them it's painful but it helps. Maybe that's just me but maybe not😁✌🏽
Dorsiflexion hurts me most, what do you do if it’s ankle and muscle? The upward pressure from the straight ankle lock seems to have damaged my calf on top of my ankle.
You literally described exactly what happened to me. I was put in a toe hold and my ankle popped. I have pain in the areas that you mentioned. Great video. I will do these exercises
I love this video, but can you tell me if this is something I should start doing immediately after I have an injury, or should a wait a day or two for the pain to go down?
IanAbjj it depends on the severity of injury. Gentle range of motion is good. You definitely do not want any pain. I would check with a medical professional to be sure.
I was going to ask the same question, except kind of too late. I sprained my ankle climbing and was determined to at least go along to all the locations, so I did a lot of this stuff when it hurt severely, as well as hobbling around through the forest for 6 hours the next day occasionally yelping or letting out mini screams as ill-placed rocks or twigs adjusted my ankle a little too far. I didn't use ice, my thinking being that healthy blood flow would promote healing, which ice would just slow down. Anyway, point being, someone else had a very similar injury, and they rested it - on the second day I had lots kf swelling, but by the third it had sort of dissapated across my whole foot instead of my ankle, it felt loads better and I could weight it if it was very straight on one foot. They couldn't and it was still very painful for them to walk. So I was wondering if the pain in this situation is telling you something useful or whether it can be safely ignored. Also I'm here because I want to start rolling on it, though I am thinking it would be good to wait until am not limping
Thanks for the question. There are a lot of factors that can account for the differences such as type of injury, severity of injury, age, physical health, etc. I think that pain is an important guide and increasing pain is not recommended in my opinion. I think rest, elevation, intermittent ice is useful and helpful as well as light range of motion and then gradually progressing to normal walking and strengthening as your body allows. I think walking with a limp or hobbling around can lead to faulty movement patterns and pain in other areas. It's good to hear that you feel better. The fact that you could still hike and walk probably meant that although your injury was painful it may have not been as severe. What questions do you have about returning to BJJ? Usually an ankle brace can be helpful to wear just for some stability, support, and also notifies people around you that you have an injury which will make others more aware.
Hey thanks for the video. I got caught with a heel hook in training and I heard the pop. now I have a slight pain in my ankle. could you please tell about this situation whether it is serious and any remedies ?
It's actually the joint that connects the big toe to the foot. Blood work says it's not gout. And Dr just say it was a sprain. But it's been about a year and I'm just starting to walk without a limp.
I got caught in an ankle lock. The soreness afterwards is along the top of the foot close to the ankle, rather than the side of the ankle. Any suggestions? Do the same execrcises apply? Thanks.
@@TheJiuJitsuTherapist Thanks for the reply. The injury was from a back take ankle lock. This kind of thing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_xbta083Vwc.html
