I know this may cause some controversy but it is only my opinion. I am 84 years “young” and have listened many times to this song by Ann and Fernando, also by Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. This rendering gives much more feeling and brings reality to the story being told. Two brilliant actors, two wonderful voices with one beautiful song. How can you improve on perfection? Brings tears to my eyes.Long may this kind of song and melody live.

Thank You! I'm the poster, and I'm grateful to hear from you! I respect my elders, and I'm approaching 75 years! I, too, have heard and seen both versions of this most beautiful of films. Hardly a musical critic, I was never really thrilled by the Jeanette and Nelson version. As lovely as it was, I thought it was a little over the top, operactically. Lovely Ms.Blyth and Mr. Lamas lent more of an air of authenticity to their rendition. They were 2 people admitting their new love for one another! I found it beautiful, and wanted to share it. I met Ann in 1966, after she had performed on stage in "Kismet". I'm 6'2" and was surprised that Ann was so tiny. But when she looked up at me, I saw the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. She took my hand and so sweetly thanked me for coming to see the performance. To this day, she is still the most beautiful woman I ever met. Beauty, talent, and warmth of person. Wow!!!

Yes, I too felt goosebumps when hearing this song. Ann Blyth's voice is so pure and angelic and so powerful. Fernando Lamas, I've never seen any of his movies but he too has a magnificent voice. Lovely song.

I'm south Koean. 72years old, I Saw this movie in my middle school age. One afternoon, I leave out my private lesson after regular classes and go to theatre. There Ann Blyth was so beautiful splended, And her voice was so pure and ringing, can't forget after this. She made my inner space more rich and sympathy. Thanks to Ann and heroine Fernando. I can personally attest to Fernando Lamas' singing talents, as I was in a production of "The King and I" with him and his wife at the time, Arlene Dahl, at the Carousel Theatre in Framingham, Mass., in 1958. I played the favorite princess who pulled on the King's pants for attention at the end of the 'March of the Siamese Children'...alas, my one brush with fame. ; )

You've got an inch on me, and I met her many years later here in San Francisco. This was a "tongue-in-cheek" tribute to Joan Crawford, and Ann was the guest of honor. I was honored to meet her, and have the photo to prove it. She was then about 78, and looked closer to 50! What a beauty! Rose Marie" was the first Ann Blyth movie I ever saw - I was 10 years old and have been a fan of Ann's ever since. I have seen all of her movies and hope they all are on DVD soon. This video brought back beautiful memories of a classy, elegant & beautiful lady with a beautiful voice.

I'm always amazed knowing that her amazing, huge voice was produced by this tiny angel! Her beauty is unlike any other! Will forward more. You're very wise! This is indeed the same song sung over 20 years earlier by Jeanette and Nelson! I love both renditions, but I've actually met Ann Blyth, and she's my favorite! I've always been amazed that especially after meeting her, a tiny butterfly beauty like Ann, could tear the roof of a theater with that magnificent voice! Also I want to wish belated kudos to Mr. Fernando Lamas. This is his truly amazing voice; not dubbed, no subterfuge. He could sing pretty much anything!

Hi Varadero As always, you have great taste in entertainment ! Back in the 80s, I did a production of THE NEW MOON with Ann Blyth and I have fond memories of working with her. At that time she was in her late 50s but looked and sounded 30 years younger . She still had that beautiful soprano voice. Even in rehearsal she was perfectly dressed with full hair and make up and to this day I have never seen a woman so stunning. I remember her being a huge draw and audiences LOVED her !

Hi Paul, First, thanks so much for your kind mention on my channel! You're so lucky to have worked with Ms. Blyth, one of the tiniest, most beautiful actresses I've ever seen. My best friend worked with her in a "summer-stock" production of "The Sound of Music." She loved her too, and says she was so beautiful, still sounded amazing and was very kind. I met her when there was a tribute to her in San Francisco at the Castro Theater, about 10 years ago. Think she was 77 then and looked much younger. I too saw this when I must have been about ten (1954 minus 1944) and it left a lasting impression on an impressionable young mind. I was entranced by the Rose Marie character and the theme song has been magic for me ever since. Have never been able to access any footage from the 1954 version before (tried you tube a few years ago but there was nothing) so discovering this this evening has been delightful!

+Len Cox Hello Mr. Cox, About 8 years ago I met Ms. Blyth at a film tribute to her which included a live, lengthy interview on stage. There are a couple of versions here on YT; please look for them. She's still beautiful, tiny, and looks perfectly lovely. In this clip with Fernando Lamas she actually looks "made-down," instead of "made-up!" Guess it wasn't easy toning down beauty like hers! Hi Mr. Carver! I posted this, and I'm still laughing! Thank you! Funny story from a friend, writer, music maven, and so on. Hoping to see a popular show at the time, he could only get Standing Room. He spotted a friend of his watching the show, went behind her and slapped her on the ass! She turned to him, grabbed him and they started laughing and kissing! Turns out she was dressed as a nun! She explained that her show, "The Sound of Music," had a different time for the matinee, and she wanted to see this show! Many jaws dropped! Best to you, varadero/john

Thank you for introducing one of my favorite melodies. I have two disks of Country & Western, one of which covers this song sung bySlim Whitman. Western music in the stage of the musical seem somewhat different from those on the screen. The musicals and the western movies are both very useful and enjoyable for the learner of English. remeber the first time i watched this. At first i though nothing could beat the 1930s one but when he started singing i was shocked at how beautfull his voice was and i think he was very handsome man. Ann Blyth has a voice of an angel.

+Bits And Bobs Hi! Mr. Lamas had a superb voice, and these 2 really looked and sounded lovely in this film. As for Ann, I was lucky to meet her once and she's still beautiful at 87! Such a tiny lady, with such a very big, angelic voice! I think she left Hollywood to raise her family: 5 children! @joannecarroll1 Hi! So happy you liked this! I was lucky enough to meet Ms. Blyth a few years ago. The program was here in San Francisco, at The Castro Theater. They showed "Mildred Pierce," and after the movie they introduced Ms. Blyth! The theater went wild, and the following interview was incredible. I don't understand all rules of YT, but if you just go to search, and type in Ann Blyth and Castro, you'll see some of that wonderful interview. She was then 78, now around 81! Just charming!

@Milordvega Fernando had a fine voice, and was not dubbed here or to my knowledge in any other film. He was trained in his native Argentina. From another source: Fernando Lamas! - "When a person has an accent, it means he can speak one more language than you" - when Johnny Carson teased him about his accent during an appearance on The Tonight Show! I've begun to think that liking, and having posted this particular rendition, has made me not so very likable! I, too loved the original film! Thing is I've always been a huge fan of Ann Blyth! I'll still never comprehend how such a beautiful girl, barely 5', could produce that voice, but she did! Also, I've never been a big Billy Chrystal fan. He may have gained some of his fame by immitating Fernando, but physically he's a nebbish, and Fernando could sing and act circles around him! Look, as you wanted to post the lyrics, I needed to say what I thought about these 2 lovely performers, and at least one of their detractors. I'm happy to know you and hear from you! I was introduced to the Nelson Eddy/Jeannette MacDonald version of Indian Love Call from a record album my dad had, and I LOVED THE SONG from the first time I heard it ! Then I saw the remake with Fernando and Ann, and I thought Fernando was SOOOO MUCH MORE sexier and handsome in the role than Nelson Eddy...and I LOVED it even MORE when I found out it was REALLY HIM singing ! Thank you very much for posting it...I had to post the lyrics so I could sing along with it. BTW, Billy Crystal knew Fernando and had his permission to do that imitation of him...I always thought it was VERY funny...I also like your description of your channel, and that you are VERY diverse in your postings...KUDOS !

You mean you never saw her slap, and punch-out Joan Crawford? That was in "Mildred Pierce!" I think she was only 15 then. The scene must be here on YT at least 26 times. I love her best for her exquisite voice, and for being the "tiniest" girl with the biggest voice I've ever heard. OK, maybe Jane Powell was her equal. Also, she was, and still is incredibly beautiful. If you have time please look here for Ann Blyth Castro. Now she's well into her 80's. She was late 70's then! Enjoy!

Many years after this was filmed I was lucky enought to meet beautiful Ann at a film, and interview shown at "The Castro" theater, here in San Francisco; think is was about 2007. They were both wonderful in the film. I hope you'll watch it all! If Fernando Lamas had such a beautiful baritone voice, they should have cast him in more musicals and not just in movies where he had those Latin Lover roles.

Fernando Lamas was a very good barítone. He also sang in The merry widow and in Happy Hunting with Ethel Merman on.Broadway. Hollywood used very bad his talented singers and prefered to cast actors dubbed instead. There were excellent singers who didnt make musicals like George Sanders Maureen O Hara Dana Andrews Walter Pidgeon Gloria Swanson etc or danced more than.sang Tommy Rall ..

@varadero1839 How lucky you were to meet her. I am in the process of moving, but when I'm settled, I plan to write to Ms Blythe. I have an 8x10 autographed photo I received from her - I treasure it. I did see a few clips on YT - one of her getting out of the car - she looks as beautiful now as she has all of her life.

@hecate55 Mil gracias! I'm only suggesting that would have been the response from Fernando Lamas, as he was from The Argentine! Lovely Ann Blyth was a tiny beauty, with an enormous voice from my home town, New York City! Though born in Mt. Kisco, New York, she grew up around the corner from St. Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Avenue. I'm thinking you enjoyed this clip, but noting the "Zombie Jesus and Black Easter Bunny" leave me befuddled. Not to worry; that's my usual state. Nice to hear from you!

I love the song and the duet. Ann is still with us at 85. She has a beautiful voice and sings this song exceptionally well -- except she's not Jeanette MacDonald. Likewise, Fernando Lamas is not Nelson Eddy. This arrangement sounds like the 1936 version; the harmony seems the same. But the story is obviously different in the 1954 film. As good as Ann and Fernando are here, no one comes out ahead covering Jeanette and Nelson.

jJeanette and Nelson are more popular but I prefer this performance because its complete.The 1936 is sung cut.But all were excellent; Ann was born in 1928 so she is 90 this year;
