People with money and in senior positions think that the minions are there solely for their benefit. I am a lecturer and corporate trainer, and I routinely get asked by colleagues and corporate clients to "just help with" PPTs, speeches, research assistance, etc. etc., which takes time. All for free, of course. The latest incident was a colleague who wanted to "treat" me to some green tea (I work in China), but then expected me to explain the research process to him. When I refuse, I am called uncooperative, unkind, and worse. What I do now is say "sure!" and give my standard rate upftont... and then never hear from them again. What a disgrace that this talented women was not respected (or reimbursed) as she should have been.

She hated it. She would've never picked it for herself. She just went along with what Joe Kennedy wanted and it's probably the only thing she wore that she didn't really pick, like or get much of a say so about. If you're interested in her taste and want to know her style and where her mind was and if you can find it b/c it's out of print, I highly recommend "I Was Jacqueline Kennedy's Dressmaker" by Minnie Rhea. In summary, she loved Givenchy and Chanel and used to get Rhea to copy French fashions b/c she couldn't afford them. Later when first lady she couldn't wear French fashions b/c it would make her look unpatriotic, so she got Oleg Cassini to pretty much copy Givenchy and Chanel and stick his name on it or she did the line by line system--which was basically buy all the Chanel fabric, buttons, thread, etc, have an American sew it so that an American label could be slapped on it and it could be called "an American suit." That's what she did with the infamous pink suit that she wore to Dallas in 1963. That's why it kind of accurately both is and is not a Chanel suit at the same time.

I would love to wear any of her designs today. They are beautiful. I see 18th century French gown influences in her creations, that tells me she knew fashion history. And the intricate florals and ruffle embellishments are superbly crafted, what an extraordinary talent. She was only 24 and she was marrying into a political dynasty. Most 24 year olds, especially in the 1950’s, were raised not to rock the boat. I’m not so sure Joe Kennedy was so involved in her wedding dress. Why would he care or have the time to get involved in its design? I do believe however that the dress was Jackie’s mother’s doing though.

Jackie Bouvier's wedding dress was so pretty and elegant and her grandmother's wedding veil went so well with her simple bouquet. She looked beautiful and sweet-faced. Radiant. Diana looked like one wrinkled mess! Getting out of the too small carriage I could see that the ridiculously too long 25 foot long train would be difficult to maneuver. Her skin was too pasty and the sleeves of the dress puffed up too heavily. Diana resembled the Pillsbury dough boy! (Both the dough boy and Diana were adorable though.) That was the style back then but I still didn't like it. A few years later Sarah Ferguson's gown was calmer and simpler and prettier and more feminine than Diana's dress.
