Anna Bayle's walk was not so much a walk, but a glide.I had forgotten about her walking style, until I saw a old fashion show, and was reminded. Absolutely captivating.
Most of the walk today was inspired from her sultry and feminine walk, when she was walking she had the poise, the posture, the attitude when walking, as if it was the first time the media had the chance to grab their eyes upon. It just wasn't about how she appeared, it was how she influenced from bland walks, to dramatic and with artistic expression that aligned from designers back then and the reason she was so cherished both with words as her presence by the media.
The fact that a lot of people now days tend to reduce Iman to just being Bowie’s wife is so sad. Like she had a whole successful career (still does) before she was married
I was shocked to hear that some young people only know Elizabeth Taylor as “that lady who had a perfume.” We must face the fact people have no rememberance or appreciation of cultural history. If it’s not on Facebook or Instagram, it might as well not exist.
I remember Iman being launched in the 1970s. As a nomad, herdswoman, discovered by this famous photographer Peter Beard, to create an image of an exotic, naieve, non-westernized African woman. As a teenage girl, I had never seen such a beautiful model. I cut her pictures, and glued them in my schoolbooks. Peter Beard went `back to Africa` with Iman for a shoot for Playboy, years later. As a woman, I even bought this edition of Playboy, because of Iman. Actually Iman emerged long before the so called supermodels.
I met Anna Bayle in the late 90's where I worked. I was the only person who recognized her. I had collected a lot of couture pictures from the 80's. Some were Christian Lacroix. Anna was in a couple of them. So naturally, I knew it was her. I wished I bought those pictures to her and asked for an autograph. She was really down to earth when I asked if she was the couture model on CNN and other fashion networks. I did not know her name at the time. I made a joke about how she mocked a reporter because he was making fun of her outfit while she was getting ready for an Emanuelle Ungaro show. It was a relief she remembered that incident. She was really beautiful and sincere.

It. is so incorrect when people assume diversity is a new thing. The trading cities of the world have been cosmopolitan for eons and so has fashion with fashionistas adapting from other cultures.
The efforts companies have done in order to kill diversity in the industry and then, claiming they are making "improvements" on that field is just scary.
@@eldron29-a54 yep, it’s weird how the more SJW the world became the less diverse it became lmao. Like media acts like theyre just now done something revolutionary and new. I guess they want praises for nothing.
@@ihanakaunotar2741 the problem with the kind of diversity people are going for is forced diversity in things that most people in the world don't find beautiful. In the past it was cultural diversities. People are always fascinated by other cultures and their beauties. Now a days it's sickness diversity. From obesity to disabilities and mental disorders. Things that are not considered beautiful in many cultures around the world.
The Asian supermodel had that authentic Filipino face❤️ Sad that people in Philippines (and Asia) love western features more than their authentic features.
I think that in the fashion world, especially runway and editorial, Asian features are sought after, rather than that kpop look or the western look (for models if colour). Take for example, Liu Wen, Tao Okamoto, Xiao Wen Ju, Park Soo Joo. There’s more, but those girls came to mind. They have very Asian features which are so beautiful and refreshing in a sea of people who look similar. I think in fashion, exotic and otherworldly features are sought after. But yes, I agree that in most places in Asia and the West, Asians prefer a more “white” look, which is unfortunate.
@@mooncake4371 I completely agree. Particularly in South East Asia, I think they see “Westerner Look” as progressive , prosperity… so they try to emulate.
lol my brain short circuited twice. it’s “Filipino” not philipini😄 (the word is of spanish origin so it’s a bit far from the country’s english name) - sincerely, a Filipina girl.
Ines really had a story to tell when she walked the catwalk. She had joi de vivre! She was joyful, vibrant, and soo cool. She really represented Chanel very well and enthusiastically.
Their beauty I just find so refreshing, compared to today's models. They are all so different, but that is the draw for me.... the differences. Thanks!
I remember watching them all specially Anna Bayle and Iman.Anna was the favorite of fashion critic Elsa Klench of CNN.They even name her walk as Anna Bayle walk.
It’s such a shame that she wasn’t mentioned(or barely mentioned) in the modeling industry shows, I never heard her name being mentioned in ANTM, RPDR and the likes. I know about Linda, Cindy, Iman, etc because they were mentioned multiple times but never hers’. Anna Bayle needs more recognition and visibility👏🏻👏🏻
Because unlike her contemporaries, Anna's post modeling years are quiet. In fact, there's this international article I forgot the title that referred her as a model from Asia. No name but just a model from Asia.
Sadly Anna Bayle isn't as widely known here in the Philippines as Naomi or Tyra are. Plus, her beauty wouldn't be appreciated here as her features lean towards a native Filipino and not a typical European (which is basically the Philippines' beauty standards; the fair skin, light eyes and hair, pointy nose, etc.) P.S. her last name is pronounced as bye-leh :))
Thank you for the correction!! Anna was truly one of a kind. I wish she was given more opportunities but even if she isn't famous like the other models, I'm grateful for her for paving the way for Asian models. Personally, those beauty standard are unattainable. Filipino and other asian need to recognized their own unique beauty and start celebrating it.
The problem is she was told not to market herself as Filipino and even the anglicized pronunciation of Bayle was catchy. It was even mentioned in a song for her walk.
Yaaassss about time someone highlighted these swans. They were all presence, and with that they morphed into goddesses not Queen..Goddesses, which is why designers booked them for all their shows.
It’s great to watch this since I’m too young to really know any of the models names. I had no idea that there were other brands created to make diverse make up, like Iman, I thought it was only recent, at least that’s how media makes it seem. It’s weird how these women were forgotten in what they accomplished.
As a teenager in the early 1980's, these models were muse's too a budding fashion designer, as my self. They all had a vey contagious allure, that you could not deny when seeing them in print or on the catwalk. Truly the best.
Being in the fashion industry in the 80s and 90s I got a chance to witnessed these ladies walk the run ways!!!! Feeling proud while in the crowd, pinoy pride..!!!!
Thank you for this video. Not many know about Anna Bayle. Out of all these ladies I would say only Ines and Iman are still semi active in the fashion industry. Ines always being a long time muse of Chanel.
Thank you for this wonderful video, all these ladies were a force to be reckoned with. Iman, Dalma , and Anna were in every major show in the 80’s, I exclude Ines cause she was under contract to Chanel. I had the chance to meet Iman once and she was graceful, beautiful inside and out ( always my favorite).
Peli i think the supermodel ines is the same ines whose been doing a line of clothing for uniqlo. Im not sure. Anyways i love ure content. this one is really amazing, to think that these women had opened doors for the supermodels of the 90's showed the fashion world that beauty is in the variety. i love how well research this video is. thank you for updating us where these awesome women are now.
You forgot so many supermodels of the 80's: Paulina Porizkova, Carol Alt, Nancy Donahue, Kelly Emberg, Kim Alexis, Christie Brinkley and yes, Cheryl Tiegs and Beverly Johnson were still going strong in the 80's.
Hi @pelli thank you for another great "Where are they now?" videos. You put so much into each episode and we really appreciate it!😁 You always include interesting facts and choose gorgeous people to profile. Do you have a few favourite models or is that not fair?!?😻 X
Thank you for post this video because I like this era supermodles and Paris and NY and Milan collection very much and have know these beautiful super models. But there is one more my favorite super model in 80s. Don't you know Hanis from Singapore? She also have appeared Paris Haute cuture collection especially Hanae Mori and Givenchy. Would you post Paris Haute cuture collection which Hanis had doing? She had doing modeling same era as these super models. Thank you!
Something interesting about Inès de la Fressange: she was also giving her face for the then very, very elaborated Shiseido advertisings; I loved these pictures for their high aestetics. Inès also was modeling the first Chanel Haute Couture under Karl Lagerfeld. Iman once was called a Megamodel which was able to present each possible style of walk. About Anna Bayle: this was not the first Asian Supermodel; in fact, Asian models became quite popular in France for their elegance, one of the Icons is China Machado in early 60's, in 70's, there was Marie Helvin, and in early 80's Tina Chow which Karl Lagerfeld found very inspiring: "She was slimmer than most models and much better."
La renaissance de Coco Chanel avec Inès de la Fressange était important pour la maison Chanel et sa mode. Une grande muse de la mode Française et d'une l'élégance inoubliable des années 1980. ❤
The cream of the crop of the runway beauties. The counterpart of the editorial goddesses (Paulina, Christie, etc) Noteworthy to mention are Khadija, Mounia, Kirat, Amalia, Sonia Cole, Dianne Dewitt, Katoucha, Marpessa..
In the same area a Dutch model of Indonesian background was internationally famous too. Her name: Linda Spierings. She started out in the early 1980s, and worked a lot with Azzedine Alaia. Another internationally famous model was Javanese-Dutch model Toto Koopman, who worked in Paris until WW II. Later she became a spy. In the 1970s/1980s a Japanese model emerged in Paris couture and pret-a-porter fashionshows and European fashion magazines. I forgot her name. Male Asian (Chinese) model Godfrey Gao worked for Louis Vuitton. I think those are just a few of the succesfull Asian or mixed Asian-European models.
Real epitome of fashion models. They rose in the 80s and into the early 90s. Then fashion models got taken over by mainstream media influence where fashion pretty much started dying only to be kept afloat by personality fashion models that were popularized by music videos….in came the younger models that were pumped by publicity. IMAN, ANNA, DALMA, INES, PAULINA, ET AL DURING THEIR TIME WERE THE APEX OF MODELS JUST BEFORE FASHION REALLY DECLINED BY THE MID 90s. Pretty much everything started to deteriorate not just in fashion but in music, movies, journalism, etc.
A Dalma Callado.
Getting accepted in UP Medicine (university of the Philippines) is like getting in Harvard Law. She must be very smart as well. She is so poised even without moving.
I’ll tell you what happened to the 80s supermodels….the 90s supermodels is what happened. They came through elevated the role and dominated. They reign supreme.
