I have never seen La Sonambula this slow. Having it this slow makes it 3 times harder to sing, to use much more effort to keep the legatos on time and in tune and much more exhausting to sing. I never conducted or even heard this played so slowly. Congrats to Netrebko to keep her performance on point. She has a very generous voice, very charismatic, democratic and easy listening. As said here, she is pop, in a very good way.
@@DiomedesDioscuro Yeah. It's not every single singer that is "easy" to listen. Sometimes because of the repertoire, sometimes because the singing which is very hard to appreciate (i'm not saying that it's bad singing, just some stuff which makes that singer hard to listen, for example, it's not everyone who listen to Igenborg Danz or Cecilia Bartoli as much as people listen to Callas or Netrebko). In the political subject.... Well, I must say that democracy is not her best note......

@JudaMaccabeus I agree! She should stay in the repertoire she does good. I've heard Gruberova last week in concert - at 63 she was singing in beautifully!
@Serinia4melodic Obviously you don't understand the work that goes into preparing these pieces or you wouldn't be making comments like that. I am a music major at a major university that has a world renowned program. I have also worked on and sung this piece so I know just how much work goes into it. There is no way she worked just minutes a day on this piece, otherwise she wouldn't even be able to get up there and sing it. It may not be the best in your opinion but at least respect the artist.
Today I'm the happiest man in the world! I succeded to see AN' live performance in Boheme at Mariynskiy Theatre.There was a full OVATION! AN is amazing, real professional,looks like Goddess, sounds like Queen of Opera.She's slim and in a good fitness shape!
Nertebko haters do not care about the quality of her performances. They trash everything of hers under condition of anonymity. The good thing is that everyone already knows their names (thrugman30, striker etc) and the longer they do that the more pathetic they look. Anna is going GREAT and her voice has doubled in the last couple of years. So, respond to their insulting comments, when you can, and haters would not feel in a safe heaven (like Taliban before 2001).
You know, this is all kind of sad. She has been pushed to make her voice supposedly bigger and creamier, and she is punishing a voice that could be exceptionally beautiful. Besides the fact that this aria is really not for her,listening to her crash and bully her way through the colouratura is really painful. She needs better advice and guidance.
Anna Netrebko has a beautiful voice, but it's such a pity that she won't sing the lyric repertory that she's so well suited for, like La Boheme, War & Peace (which I saw her sing) and instead insists on singing bel canto parts by Donizetti and Bellini. I saw Sutherland do "La Sonnambula" and the ornamentation was included, making the music vibrant--it's the way it's supposed to be sung. @TheVaughan5 Everyone has there own interpretations of the aria. And why would she try to sound like Joan Sutherland with a voice like hers? She is just as professional as Ms. Sutherland and they both are great in their own ways. I think calling her incompetent is a very rude and unnecessary comment. Also, I don't think they would have asked her to sing this if she was incompetent. Not many people can sing this aria well so I respect her for it.
@serenaluce sorry, I don't have a CD of Bocelli and just an old Rigoletto with Pavarotti... so you can understand what I mean for "filters". If I want to listen to duets I have Frank Sinatra...
@18moptop oh i do respect her and like some of her roles... but my opinion about her bel canto lies already written. And I understand very well how difficult it is to sing any role. She said she only workes 10 min a day in like all her documentaries oO it`s like her trademark... personally I don`t really believe her either.
@spqrmor probably you fell in love with her or somethig similar... I have my own taste, sorry if you can't accept that. You should liste to real singers, not to product of modern music business. Screaming is not singing.

Yes, the voice is too dark for this repertoire and poor in aglities, this kind of voice can be appreciated better in other ouvres such as Turandot, or something like this. Although the voice sounds really good, but I repeat, it doesn't fit for this repertoire.

What filter do you have if Andrea Bocelli sings with her and contributed into her popularity too?:-) You've never heard their duets from a concert recorded several years ago and shown all over the world - Con te partiro' (which they called Time to say good bye) and Guarda, guesta terra...? If you are Italian I hope the name of Bocelli is familar to you? Or you know only Pavarotti?
I don’t have any strong opinion about Ms Netrebko in general, but seriously; this is simply not very accomplished singing and light-years from true bel-canto.

@JudaMaccabeus what is? she's mediocre at best at everything she does, in my opinion... her Russian opera roles are only considered 'good' because of authenticity!
La voix est magnifique, mais la technique d'agilité et les trilles, c'est vraiment pas ça du tout. C'est très brouillon, souvent savonné, pas précis. On dirait qu'elle n'a pas travaillé en détail cette cabalette. C'est dommage, surtout pour une chanteuse qui ne chante quasiment que du bel canto. Soit elle ne devrait plus chanter ce répertoire (vu que Mimi ou Micaëla lui vont à merveille), soit elle devrait travailler pour devenir une vraie belcantiste.
