And this great woman and soprano also had her not so commonly known comic side...enjoy... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kekog9ZzPNs.html
It is only Edita Gruberova's fabulous voice that can master this aria so effortlessly. How I miss her so so so so so much!!! May you sing in the Heaven joyfully all the time~~
Wow. I’ve always loved her!!! I don’t think anyone comes near to her color at the top and with heavenly decrescendos. She hits them spot on and then does a mezza di voce on them. She is a class of her own!!! Without wanting to insult and of the greats, she moves my soul and heart to tears.... brava
Absolutely fantastic!! I never heard of her before today, but now I want to listen to everything she's done. So clean, so pure are her tones. When I was young, I sang this aria - never so well of course, but enough to appreciate the difficulty. Bravo, Edita!
If i have one regret in my life it's not seeing this lady live in opera or recital her voice has always touched me its beautiful . I am so glad i have her on here and cd's and dvd which i love . So glad for youtub
The best Gilda ever. Her 'Caro Nome' has never been beaten in my view, not just the ravishing voice but the very essence of innocent first love so cruelly betrayed.
Thank You Edita, for your wondrous voice and work in opera, especially in "bel canto", so radiant in everything you sang yet surpassing everything with all your Bel Canto roles, least of which is your Donizetti Tudor Trilogy of Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Elisabetta I in Roberto Devereux. Very few can equal what you did in your career and in particular with Elisabetta I In Devereux. You will always be remembered; thank you again for your unbelievable opera career and a voice like a larion trumpet. I have so many of your recordings of very famous operas and lesser known works. What they have in common is your committment to superlative singing and dedication to your art. May you rest in peace, dear Miss Gruberova. I wish I had posted this earlier aknowledging your formidable talent!
In the first segment e.gruberova was slow and rather stiff, but relaxes in the second to give a superb performance. Thanks for uploading.i was fortunate to see her live in berlin last year in the choral version of Lucretia Borgia--she was sublime.
Beautiful... I think she's still performing to this day... She's in her mid-sixties now, I believe... That's quie impressive, similar to Sutherland who was still performing during her late years... :-)
There is another video on you tube from the same performance the presenter announces where this is taking place from what i could make out since he speaks in a Scandinavian language...the name of the video is is Edita Gruberova - aria from La Sonnambula..good luck!
Beautiful singing. If only we could have heard the aria without the clapping seals in the middle of it. Atmosphere totally destroyed by people clearly not absorbed by the music.
by the way, i went to my...i-tunes, and found...that i had put the following information...for this aria: live, ZDF German TV; conducter, Friedrich Haider (?)
