United Nations - Remarks by Ms. Anne Hathaway, UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, at the UN Observance of International Women's Day 2017. 2017 Theme: “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”. www.un.org/en/events/womensday/
Typical women always talk noncense equality this equality this when hard works and trouble comes they become mire feminine and let men solve problem what a boring topic everytime women open mouth
Feminism is not about female privelege. It's equality alongside men. Equal as humans. Its a joint effort by men *and* women. It's not about overpowering men or making men into women or women into men. It's about respect for the differences while being a team of equals. It's refreshing that she mentioned redefining and destigmatizing men as caretakers.
Yeah the men left behind on Titanic would've really loved the idea of Feminism. Or the men left behind on hijacked planes because governments traded their lives for Women and Children. And the trans, bigender people would also love your "True Feminism" where groups like TERF(Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists) repeatedly dehumanise and defeminize them.
Im a feminist who supports equality and men and women being equal never compared by gender Buddy ur comment might be so positive i wanna meet u and shake ur hand for introducing real feminism
Although feminists like to define feminism as "equality" of the sexes, in truth, while they may preach this dogma, it is never practiced in reality. Feminists have one purpose and one purpose only, to overpower men at all costs and with as little effort as possible. Men have a myriad of issues facing them but has anyone seen feminists fighting to tackle them? That is why so many men AND women are abandoning feminists in droves, with only about 10 percent of the overall populace identifying as such. No one wants to drink their Kool-Aid.
Hello Goodbye No..women (most feminists anyway) don't want to overpower men, they just want equality. It's only because the divide is so wide that it seems like we're screaming for more than we are, but really we just want equal terms. Except that of course men are getting so much more than women and women are receiving far less than we deserve and it's become the normal so much that people don't even realise it, they just think women are crying out for help for nothing.
Hello Goodbye And yes, women are trying to help men, there's lots of Pinterest posts that show great examples, such as asking for assault and abuse justice, equal paid leave, and equal pay with benefit an entire economy, not just men, because as we all know, money goes around and comes around.
She spoke before a stacked audience....if she spoke before a bunch of men who might question the feminist dogma or have been burned in divorce courts, criminal courts, the work place, universities, one has to wonder how loud the applause would be. She should have the courage to speak before the men she is trying to reach.
Although this is years late, thank you for this speech. Every time we empower women, we empower the world. Every time we support women, we support the world. Everything just gets better.
@@oo7513 Actually, considering the video is about International Women's Day, it really is about empowering women. And to empower women we need to empower men to be more open and aware of the greater picture. Sad but women always take men into account whereas a certain kind of man doesn't take anyone but himself into account, when it comes to standing up for human rights.
Stand up from your seats really for this great and cute Ms. Anne Hathaway incredible points she raised in many aspects of life for maternity leave rules and many more.....which are ...." "Why we continue undervalue father and overburden mothers...women and men are not economically punished for wanting to be parents..live in a world where policies not based on gender...there is a deeper truth that LOVE IS LOVE and parents are parents".....What is this that this human being has made rules which are un-human in many aspects of life and now we have to raise them....anyway whatever she said is heart-touching and very important for us to implement them not only in international countries but every country because if we think today then tomorrow will be a new world of love, extra care, parents will not be burdinized, maternity leaves will not be unpaid (shame on us if we do that) and rules will not make us fools in reality.........and she looking so beautiful as always in her red dress with beautiful words.
Amazing words & I can wait to see you more of you in this field and use your voice 4 better cause and make a change in the world for both parties women and men 4 equal.
This is the equality and the active feminism we talk about. This is what we want in different societies across the globe. Feminism never meant playing the victim card or preassuming a particular gender as vulnerable. It's about the decisions our societies make to raise the vulnerable one and erasing all kind of prejudices.
I live in Canada and am on maternity leave from work. I have been receiving my full time pay since three weeks before my sons birth, and will receive it until my son is a year old. The split between moms and dads is so off.
I love and adore Anne. Feminism at its heart is about equal treatment/opportunity/pay between women and men. That's the entirety of feminism. Anything put onto feminism which is outside of those qualifiers is no longer feminism: anger, resentment, hostility, anti-man mentalities, man-hating....those are from bitter and hostile women who seek to wrongly place their pasts, their abuse, their sorrows ONTO feminism, and usurp the noble intention of feminism by making it a spearhead for their unrelated agenda. In like manner, MGTOW is simply a movement of men wanting to no longer get cut in half by 120 year old divorce laws, and common law marriage laws. However, MGTOW has quickly become a magnet for abusive, hateful, self-absorbed, and woman-hating men, equally bitter, equally cruel, and equally broken as the worst types of women placing their foul nature on feminism. Anyone with intelligence can see that equal opportunities and treatment under the law is fair and wise for both women and men. Anyone. Sadly, there is far more of a problem entwined with this than just balance: the laws of this country have to be changed to allow the very balance women say they want, and that's going to move divorce laws from where they are now, to a place where men no longer get cut in half financially as the law allowed from 120 years ago. When women can support this change, they'll have the full equality they say they want, though they'll no longer be able to cash out during divorces. I guess we'll see if they want equality enough to forego that outdated and immoral practice.
It's a beautiful inspiring speech by Anne Hathway on women day . American Women need to have more leaves while giving birth to babies as pointed out by Anne ✨🌠
She is absolutely right!!! The society is based on families and without their support we are inhuman! There should absolutely be a longer time off, because 3 months is ridiculous!!! This should also be paid!!!! Same as unemployment benefits, welfare that people receive!!! Should be funded by both employees through payroll deductions and partially by employers! Men should also participate!!! All she says is correct- thank you
Robert Willis - ahaha! Social state! I am amazed by your word choices!!! When the government stops funding foreign countries and focus on domestic problems then yes, we will have funding for maternity leave! When we cut welfare programs for those that are leaching and should and can work, then yes, we will have funding for new mothers and maternity leave. When we start investing here and not interfere there, then yes, we can make it work. Anything else??? We should make America a great again and that's an issue that needs to be addressed. But I applaud your energy spend commenting on this and targeting my freedom of speech. Well, done!
These are not just women's rights or men's rights. These are FAMILY Rights - nation-states are created to support the needs of families, they serve us. 16 weeks paid leave for all men and women having new children... Taken together or one after the other - gives the babies a healthy start and lowers health costs in the future.
This is the first time i've heard a woman speak about the value of fatherhood on a broadly exposed platform. It's a huge shift from the usual feminist monologue based upon controversial propaganda and self-interest.
Jean-Sébastien Harvey I don't think the average feminist would be against this kind of thing though; I would love for people not to go on about how women just wanna go away and have babies, because men would be doing the same, as is their right; this is still feminism, it is ideas and behaviors stereotypically seen as feminine being treated as necessary and universal for all.
Women have supported and loved men since the beginning of time. But we are talking about thousands of years of history, myth, religion, and social order. We are talking about an evolution that values us all equally. There's nothing wrong with that once you get out of the old box of thought.
Gender equality is a myth, because all men and/or women being equal is a myth. What is weird to me is that we are constantly comparing ourselves to others, with our skewed and biased views and standards, and expecting others to solve our self-imposed "problems", when we should be focusing on bettering ourselves, and minding our business. There is nothing stopping any given woman from making as much, as little, or more than any given man, other than our starting points (heritage, geography), and most importantly, our drive, our skill, and our ambition... at least within a capitalist society. If women in general earn less than men in general, it is mostly because women take time off to give birth and raise children, while men are expected to go the extra mile to compensate as the bread-winners. By allowing men to do their fair share in caring for the children, it gives the mothers an opportunity to do their fair share in bread-winning. And if that is not enough to close the wage-gap, then i suggest that individual freedom to manage their family lives as they see fit be respected. To merely say that women earn $0.77 to every man's dollar is not right, and quite miss-leading. The gap is largely a question of choice, life-style, and a biased and unfair legal system and social dogma.
I have a good friend who is a German citizen. She has two young daughters and has, collectively, had 4 years of leave without a dent in her income. Are Germans taxed like crazy? Absolutely. But she has had familial opportunities that we lack in the US. We are doing something so, so wrong.
Unlike in Western countries , in India delivery is often seen as the responsibility of the wives' family ..so paternity leave of 15 dys is more than enough for Indian males in India..

I am glad her Father is a good man. It is a wonderful thing to be close to your children. Equal Rights 16 weeks paid leave for all men and women... put together - that gives a baby 7 to 8 months proper full time care with their parents.
Mine is true. Assumption uni had installed voice recorders on campus, stole the teachers’ chatting for years and uploaded on social media for fun for years. Violation of the safety led to deadly horrible incidents. Teachers had been followed, harmed, and robbed. By sharing, you can help save lot of life.
THANK YOU "VERY MUCH" MRS. ANN HATHAWAY, "AS SUCH" FOR THIS ADMIRABLE ADRESS TO THE UNITED NATIONS/ INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY ON PAID MATERNITY/PARENTAL LEAVE IN THE USA AND WORLDWIDE ONE "UNITED WORLD/GLOBE STARLIGHT".
Best actress in the world I consider till . Congrats Anne. And I won't call you saying hot or georgeous like others But your an Impact as a women in this industry. This actually proves your pains and struggle. That's all I could say Anne keep going Shine high
gosh all the guys in the comment section makes me laugh out of disbelief. how on earth can people not understand what Anne Hathaway said when she's already putting it so simply? Feminism isn't about women getting more, it's about gender equality. If anyone tell you that they're doing something because they're a feminist but they're putting down men, they're not a feminist. Then again if anyone tell you that they're doing something because they're a feminist but is putting women down, they're not a feminist.
Helloitskz Exactly. Also, everyone has faults, we're all figuring it out as we go along, so it is much better to support people, definately including feminists, when they do something good, rather than use it as an excuse to tear them down.
The very word FEMINISM rules out equality and reveals the true nature of the movement from the beginning. Why not call it EQUALITY? If I made a group called White Mens Rights, do you think people would believe it was for the good of all people as long as the so called "definition" means to make everyone have equal rights? Get out of here with that BS feminism!
Falcon 4917 it's called Feminism because women need to be empowered and uplifted to the same rights and opportunities as men. SAME rights and opportunities as men EQUAL rights as men and women. Honestly most people's argument against feminism is merely the word not being Equality. Are you disowning a movement based on a label?
The title feminism means everything. What's wrong with simply equality? I absolutely will disown a movement based on their title, because the title itself is hypocritically not equal and therefore misrepresents true equality.
Falcon 4917 The title represents the global oppression of women. Deal with it. Men are not globally oppressed like women. Never have been, never will be. When it's a common practice to cut off men's tips so they stay faithful we will change the title.
FAMILY RIGHTS. Nation-states are created to support and protect Our Families. Our Families come first over everything - raising healthier children lowers costs and increases productivity and happiness for everyone.
I don't like feminism and actresses like Brie Larson who force feminism. But this speech was awesome and an inspiration on how real equality should be look like. Thanks to Anne Hathaway one of the best actress i know.
it was very disturbing that few delegates were not even paying any attention to what anne was speaking, few were just blankly keeping their eyes at her and did not even clap...talk about women's day and gender equality.
Everyone should pay attention and clap when a woman speaks? That's what you are saying isn't it? By your definition of gender equality, everyone should also pay attention and clap when a man speaks?
Over the time I got better at it, I could barely walk, It landed differently , they can't afford to , will be passed , underappreciated, undervalue, sole breadwinner, incredible privileged families, redefine, hardships, the assumption that ,

Kudos to Anne Hathaway! I believe she speaks her heart out, and that might offend other celebs at times. But the fact remains that she is too gorgeous , talented and gracious to be hated. So just stop hating, start showing respect and admiration for someone whose has been in the industry since a tender age and already Academy Award Winner and all the more so so clear about her thoughts and doesn't shy to express them. I am here after seeing her performance with Robert De-Niro in movie "The Intern"
