uhm do people really see Anne With An E just as Anne/Gilbert romance?? I watched the show because I saw a lot of movement on SNS for their renewal and how the serie portray such important topics on the XIX century... and I definitely loved ALL the characters from the children to their families so it breaks my heart that the serie is mostly known just for Anne/Gilbert's romance

Netflix did not cancel the show, the CBC ended its content sharing agreement with Netflix after both parties couldn’t reach a new financial understanding. All CBC shows on Netflix will soon, at the upcoming end date, be removed. The CBC instead will try and grow the streaming service it currently has, GEM I think it’s called, and receive all the financial rewards from the shows it produces instead of sharing with Netflix. Unfortunately, the CBC decided Anne was too expensive for them to produce without Netflix cofunding it so they cancelled it. The creative team tried to broker a deal where Netflix or another streaming service would continue the show but no one was willing to pay the CBC for its share of the rights to the show and the CBC wasn’t going to give them away for free. Anne was my favorite CBC show, favorite show in general, but I’ll miss several others that will disappear off Netflix soon too.

if they truly knocked it out of the park then it wouldn't have been cancelled . same as that show "sense8" , a group of people loved it A LOT , but it still got cancelled because it wasn't popular enough . "Anne with an e" targeted too small of an audience , so many fans of the book and the mini-series ( like me ) turned away from the netflix show . The director didn't seem to care apparently. that was the moment when she doomed her show. it's good to make a diverse show but it also has to appeal to a diverse audience .

lili ks Im sorry but I think you need to inform yourself a little bit more. The show AWAE got canceled for the CBC and Netflix agreement. The Director has nothing to do with it, especially about the “diversity” you talk about it “lacks” on. The show was pretty much popular and even was at the top 4 most watch series in netflix at some point. The director did a beautiful job with the cast #renewannewithane

You have to remember how old are characters are. Back in the day you were expected to get married young even without knowing what love really was and what it was like to be in a marriage. You are expected to marry or you were looked down upon. What Anne and Gilbert had was special an extremely hard to find. Their intelligence and their wisdom goes beyond the years of their peers. For Diana, she struggled personally with how her upperclass parents wanted her to be and who she really was. She wasn't in love with Jerry because she had more to focus on then love it was lust. Had she been given more time to figure out who she was and what she wanted then maybe. But in the books she marries Frank Wright, they have three children Frank, Anne Cordelia and John. So she is happy in the end. In the books, she and Jerry were never in a relationship but I have to admit I love the series twist on it.

You have to remember to that there is also a big class issue and at that time it was huge. Diana was still trying to figure out who she was without her parents influence and Jerry taught her that. Unfortunately she wasn't quite there yet in terms of fighting for what she wanted and who she was as a person. If we had more seasons we would have been able to see her growth and see if there would have been a relationship between her and Jerry. Unfortunately we did not get there

I think this is one of the less argumentative groups when it comes to the fandom. I've encountered a few but not very many which is great. I don't know if you're able to but you should read the series it's wonderfully written. Lucy is a fantastic writer and I'm not just saying that because I'm Canadian I've been a fan of her work for years

Netflix make shows like Anne, which is just such an exceptional show, the values and real life lessons and issues that we face, all in such a captivating way then they decide to cancel it at its highest point for shows that have nothing but drama. I cannot begin to express my DISSAPPOINTMENT in Netflix for letting a remarkable show, Anne slip through their fingers, it really is the sad world we live in today.

This is what I've been thinking. I only can hope and pray that somehow the show will be renew. I really need season 4

Yeah I suppose but the big thing about AWAE is that it’s an adaptation. That’s why some book fans don’t like it but others love the interpretation. They changed the entire course of the book. I would not be surprised if they changed this as well
