Years ago I stumbled across this performance here on RU-vid and thought to myself, wow this is one of the greatest individual performances I’ve ever seen. It’s right up there with Elvis Presley’s if I can dream. Annie Lennox walks out on stage channeling Ray Charles and what that means. And she sings about a beloved relationship falling apart… Been there done that… And it’s just heartbreaking. He realize she’s seeing about her self when she pushes back from the keys of the piano. Brilliant!
They say the older you get the more sentimental you get. I cant say why but every time I hear this song my eyes well up in tears, and this performance... OMG
my brother this beautiful woman is from my home city of Aberdeen Scotland we are so proud of her, i met her lots of times in a record shop she hung about in in Aberdeen and what a just all round beautiful soul she was then and still is. she was also in the band the tourists ❤ love your channel brother keep keeping good music alive 🫡👍🏴✊️
Vocally, she's a powerhouse. She released this after she broke up wth her band. And. Her huband. They had an amaing career. This was her debut single. And I love this video. TY for covering!
I loved watching your face the first half minute before you stopped the 1st time- The way great music can make us smile, that smile of pure joy and recognition- shared.
Missionary Man and Would I Lie To You are two of my favorites by Ms. Lennox. Like most of the world, she caught my attention with Here Comes The Rain Again. Her range is incredible, her voice distinctive, her presence star-quality.
If you think about it, every moment brings us closer to the end of our lives. We just spent time with Annie Lenox killing us for the duration of that song. No one wants her to stop. Least of all me. My God the beauty.
Annie is a genius. I saw her first in The Tourists. Eurythmics and then solo. Annie is from Aberdeen Scotland and that is my City - she lived just along the street from where I live now. I love her to bits.
nice reaction, haven't heard to much of her since the eurythmics broke up around '90, she was real hot in Europe when I was living there in the early 80's, great talent, enjoyed her live as well. Peace
She is Amazing ! I have her ultimate collection and discovered songs I've never heard before ! 'A thousand beautiful things ' and 'Pavement cracks' just to name a couple !! Beautiful songs !
There's another live version of this song from 1992 - it was from the Dennis Miller show, amazing performance. In another vein, "Somewhere," by Barbra Streisand, Official Video, gives me goosebumps. I remember hearing it on the radio when it came out - oh my...
Jamel, thanks for posting that video. I have always loved that song but I have never seen her perform it with just the piano. If I can request reaction from you, I would like you to listen to Joni Mitchell Hejira. 😊
JAMEL, THANKS FOR THIS, SHE IS SO GREAT, SHE JUST MELTS YOU INTO THE FLOOR!!! GOOD TO SEE YOU REACTING TO SOME TUNES AGAIN, HAVE ALWAYS LOVED WHAT YOU DO!!!!
You an amazing critic. LIke really specifc. The way you mimicked her mouth shape when she was singing to create a sound. So specific and real. It is technically apt and a great singing hack. Thank you and I love your channel.
