This was for the Freddy Tribute concert....awesome show...and yes the original is Freddy and bowie! You should check out George Michaels cover during this concert.....fire!
This was only 6 months after Freddie died. It was at Wembley Stadium, site of Live Aid, to honor Freddie & raise money to research & fight AIDS. So many huge artists participated..Elton John, Guns n Roses, Robert Plant, George Michael. Many of them were friends of Freddie's & the whole band. Fun fact, Plant said many of them had to change the key they sang in on a lot of the songs cause they couldn't "pull a Freddie". Someone sent you the dvd. There's backstage footage, rehearsals etc. Elton said it was an emotional experience for everyone but especially for Brian, Roger & Deaky. And even so, there were moments of joy & exuberance. And it's amazing to watch the crowd of 72,000 show such love & often sing along.💙🌿💚
A punch in the face gave David Bowie his famously mismatched eyes. Childhood pal George Underwood says the rock icon thanked him for the decking that happened when they were both romantically interested in the same girl as teenagers.
Exactly what I came here to share Jamie,... David received a serious injury at school in 1962 when his friend George Underwood punched him in the left eye during a fight over a girl. After a series of operations during a four-month hospitalization, his doctors determined that the damage could not be fully repaired and Bowie was left with faulty depth perception and anisocoria (a permanently dilated pupil), which gave a false impression of a change in the iris's color, erroneously suggesting he had heterochromia iridium (one iris a different color to the other); the eye later became one of Bowie's most recognizable features.Despite their altercation, Bowie remained on good terms with Underwood, who went on to create the artwork for Bowie's early albums. :-)
Annie Lennox was so lovely. She was so nervous perfoming with Bowie who was her idol. There's a great scene where she and Dave Stewart took requests by phone for a welfare event and Bowie calls in to joke. She is too nervous to talk and he is just being goofey and joking as always and eventually talking mostly to Dave Stewart and then requesting a song. So nice to see them performing together. Incredible stage energy between the two.
Again George was pouring his heart into it not only for Freddie. He was waiting on test results from his first love. He was singing his gut out for a legend who had died from a horrible disease that his first love may be diagnosed with. Can't you hear the pleading?
@@sheliahtahaalaoui1035 His impassioned and sobering real-talk appeal to the audience before the music started sticks in the memory (and indeed can be found on here with a bit of digging around). Best audio quality is the one on Eagle Rock's official page, but GM's spoken bit is missing from it.
Oh, man. That whole Tribute concert is golden. So many kick-ass performances by some of the greatest names in rock and pop music at the time. It's so good. So much respect for Freddie, but from this peers and from younger artists who were influenced by Queen, like Metallica, Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, Extreme and so on.
Bowie wrote the song and Freddie made it his own as they were great friends, and I can still feel Freddie's power as Annie and Bowie sing this amazing song and do it perfect justice. Annie was amazing that night and the band were awesome. The love Freddie still commands with people is incredible.
David Bowie's left eye was injured in a childhood fight with his best friend over a girl and the pupil was permanently dilated as a result of the injury.
Complete heterochromia is a fairly rare condition (in humans) whereby each iris is a distinctly different colour, such as having one blue iris and the other brown. But this isn't why Bowie's eyes looked different. Instead, the unusual appearance of Bowie's eyes were due to a condition called anisocoria.Jan 11, 2016 The Independent › uk
Both Bowie and Queen performed the original. What you previously saw and thought was a mashup is the original recording, but with the visual mash up of two different gigs.
In the same tribute concert there is George michael with somebody to love that was an amazing performance i think even freddie would aprove. To the Legends we lost Freddie,David And George.
George Michael's performance of Somebody to Love at this concert is one of the best live performances I've seen. The ability but also the passion of both George in the crowd, it's absolutely electric.
Another fun fact...Elton John & Axl Rose didn't get along but ended up arm in arm & downright affectionate before their duet was over. Everyone was surprised when at one point, unexpectedly, Bowie dropped to one knee & led the crowd in a prayer. Very moving. Annie Lennox's painted on eye mask is a reference to a Queen video where the model (later Roger's girlfriend) was made up the same way.💙🌿💚
As most of the comments have already said this was a Freddie tribute concert, with many artists contributing. The stand out performance for me was George Micheal singing Sombody to love, boy did he do it justice x
It was a great performance and I think it changed a lot of people's perception of George at the time. It was well documented many artists struggled to sing the Queen songs but George nailed it. I don't think Jamal has reacted to any George Michael so the more people recommend this it may get him curious to see why x
my brother loving your channel man. Annie is from Aberdeen Scotland as am i she is just a beautiful soul had the pleasure of meeting her a good few times when she hung about Aberdeen city when she was younger. she's also singing with her idol. and David has 2 blue eyes but 1 pupil is frozen making it look odd. keep making good music live my brother 🫡👍🏴✊️
It was the Freddie Mercury tribute concert from 1992, if you have time check out Seal singing Who Wants to Live Forever and George Michael singing Somebody to Love.
David Bowie was one of the most important and influential musicians/songwriters of all time he was a star and an artist he had a paralyzed pupil in his left eye because of a punch he received when he was 15 so his eyes looked of different colors. And I find very sad that nobody had the idea to make a tribute concert for him when he died of cancer in 2016. by the way Annie is a great Bowie fan and they knew and appreciated each other. Annie presented a small tribute when he died together with Gary Oldman they were both his friends and they were crying.
Its a duet by freddie/queen & Bowie. They never performed it together and the official video shows neither. Annie sung freddies part at the freddie mercury tribute concert after he passed. Its a one off show with many memorable performances.
The accident caused Bowie’s left eye appear to change colour to brown due to the injury, whilst his right stayed its natural blue. It went perfectly with his chameleon persona and somehow just added to his presence. He, like George Michael died in 2016 - a bad year for losing musical heroes.
Bowie has two different colored eyes and one pupil is completely and always dialated sp? which gives him an eery look. Also, and you might know, he sang on the original track. Actually wrote it w Freddie but had his name taken off cuz he wasn't happy with his vocal performance. This entire concert is amazing.
There is a rehersal video, you can see George Michael in the background singing the lyrics, and at about 2:45 you can Brian May smiling knowing this is going to work. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TDqLJ0G_Slg.html
Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991. In 1992 a Tribute Concert was staged in Freddie's name. This was a charity concert where the money raised was given to the AIDS Awareness Foundation. All the acts gave their time to perform 'Queen's Music'. The concert was held at Wembley Stadium, London (72,000 people packed the stadium). This is the same Stadium where Freddie and Queen out-performed other acts (in 1985) who had given their time for a charity called 'Live-Aid' to 'Feed the Children in Africa'. (RIP Freddie Mercury) 2021 will mark the 30th Anniversary of Freddie Mercury's passing.
I saw this concert on TV.,less than 6 months after he died.April,1992 .Freddie died Nov,1991. One of the best tribute shows I ever saw. Also one of the best concerts I saw.
David Bowie suffered from anisocoria after being hit in a fight when he was younger. Both eyes were blue but the left eye was left permanently dilated making it appear it was a different color.
How great was Freddie Mercury? Annie is a marvelous singer and she's positively gasping for air trying to get through the song. God, Freddie was great. Kudos for doing your best, Annie!
I remember watching this on tv when they did it. Under pressure was David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, this was a tribute to Freddie Mercury several months after he past away. It make me even more sad now that David is gone.
Yes, this was done at the Queen put-together tribute concert 6 months after we lost Freddie. It seems to have been the first time David Bowie gave any performance attention to this Queen collaboration. Both Freddie and David wrote the lyrics . . . I've read on official words about this hit music that David wrote what he sang and Freddie wrote what he sang. Freddie, followed thru and finalised production etc after Bowie left, ...I only know of course what I've read but Queen had the single finalised and marketed. So David must have given enuf approval for that to happen. It very quickly went to No. 1 and Queen included it on their Hot Space album. Such beautiful work.
So, Queen and Bowie created Under Pressure during a jam session in the early 80s, and it's been a staple ever since for both artists. After Freddie passed, Lennox performed his part at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in his honor
I enjoyed your reaction to Annie and David singing "Under Pressure". I liked the duet so much, because they are both very theatrical and put their hearts into this tribute to Freddie you can tell. I subscribed. take care
Hi Jamal, on the beginning of the song you paused the video and commented on Bowie's eyes being different colour, what Bowie actually suffered from is called anisocoria: namely that one pupil was bigger than the other. It means that the iris - the coloured bit - can’t react to light in the same way as its fellow, so the area appears to be darker, this means it looks like one eye is a different colour to the other.
@@elodieschindelheim611 a lot of people thought he had two different colours eyes, me too, then I learned in an interview he said that as a teenager he got into a fight and took a hard punch to the eye causing the permanent dilation, hence the “accident”
This was the tribute concert held at Wembley Stadium in London, simulcast all over the world. I was working at a little convenience store in Montréal and we had it playing on the radio. Some customers came in just as this song started - we all just stood there listening together, no-one moved until it ended. Then they paid for their cigarettes, we all hugged and they headed out into the night. Thanks for bringing that memory back, Jamel - another great vid, as always!
That was great thank you big brother I never seen that before or heard about it you're giving the Commodities great shine ! That's your talent DJ just like Wolfman Jack I love you thank you
I totally dig Annie's performance, from her wardrobe and makeup to the theatrical gestures during her incredible singing. And Bowie was all class and looking sharp. What an EVENT this concert must have been!
The original song was done between Queen and David Bowie. This video is from the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert where musicians joined the remaining members, Brian, Roger and John which I believe this was the last time he performed with the band, to honor Freddie's life and legacy. Quite the show!
Queen and David Bowie colaborated for the original version. Bowie turned up at Queen's studio in Montreaux one day and they had a wee jam session, which produced Under Pressure. This one with Annie was at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!! I know you're just getting to know both of them and see them perform together! Legendary, both of em! And you as well my brotha!
Jamel you need to sit down & watch this concert in its entirety. It's too long for a reaction but it was an amazing show with the surviving members of Queen playing with 17 different lead singers to cover Freddie's range. Fantastic lineup including Elton John, Axl Rose, James Hetfield (Metallica), George Michael, David Bowie & a whole lot more
The song "belongs" to Queen. Freddie and the band recorded it with David originally. The video was a mashup but the song was always as you hear(d) it. Annie is paying tribute to Freddie. Doing it proud as anyone can...(no one can duplicate)
Thank you. 💗 There are so many artists whose music is intertwined over time. I just love that you are doing this. And it is such a joy watching your discovery and making the connections! You are keeping great music alive! 🙏
The "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" shortly after he died. One of the most beautiful tributes ever. Beside the remaining Queen members these guys where performing: George Michael (Amazing "Somebody To Love" performance), Elton John ("Mamaaaa" need i say more), Metallica, Extreme, Def Leppard, Bob Geldof, Spinal Trap, U2, Mango Groove, Guns N' Roses, Tony Iommi, Roger Daltrey, Zucchero, Robert Plant, Paul Young, Seal, Lisa Stansfield, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Ian Hunter, Lisa Minelli and more. Btw. David Bowie has two eye colours for a medical reason. One eye is darker than the other.
6:14 Bowie bows to Annie that can sing his fantastic song and Annie looks for approval and he says " We love exquisite Annie Lenox.:" She did it. Bowie such a gentleman, song writer, poet, and a mystery.
With no disrespect to other people in other nations around the globe I'm sooooo proud to be British when I keep seeing and enjoying what we, in this small country, give to the world!
Let's not forget Howie actually co-wrote this song with Mercury / Queen and he performed this when touring in later years with the stunningly brilliant Gail Ann Dorsey. MUST check out one of those videos, Bowie was incandescent performing through the late 90's till his heart attack in 2004 stopped him from touring. Heart broken when he passed...still!
wow! 🤗 this is the 1992 tribute to Freddie Mercury.. Wikipedia says this is the biggest tribute concert for a deceased musician... many great singers were there, you might like react to... George Michael nailing Somebody to love, Seal - who wants to live forever, Metallica's James H - Stone cold crazy, The Extreme did theirs very well too.. Robert Plant, Axl Rose, Elton John, Robert Daltrey, many others..🙂
Dude, this concert was insane, it was the Freddie tribute, right after he died, there were so many stellar performances. I was a 12 year old kid in West Virginia that was forever changed. You should check out Elton John and Axle Rose from this show! Yes, you read that right, Elton John and Axle Rose!
You need to review Annie Lennox at opening ceremony of 2012 Olympics, where she sang Little Bird. Absolutely outstanding. Annie knows how to put on a show!!
This was the tribute show for Freddie’s Mercury Phoenix Trust that was formed after he passed away to fight AIDS & support those that are positive. It was also the last time that John Deacon played live with Roger & Brian. It was just too hard for him and he found it hard enough when they were all together as he has a family etc ..... so this is his swan song too .... xx
I remember watching this live on tv with a roomful of friends and we were all mesmerized saying not a word... The ending of this show were David brings Mick Ronson (Spiders from Mars guitarist) and Ian Hunter on stage to do "All The Young Dudes" and "Heroes"...then Bowie leads the crowd in the Lord's prayer... just... beautiful
I'm a new subscriber today. I searched Bowie Reactions and I dug your shirt. We all need to be good humans. Not boasting. Just a fanatic. Beginning with Diamond Dogs tour in NY in 1974, I saw Bowie 11 times. I tell you this because I will probably bug you. Not many Bowie reactions, and I like yours. The 2020 RnR Hall 'o Fame is now airing. I watched Trent Reznor / NIN get inducted . Bowie and NIN toured extensively and this is the best song they did together; Hallo Spaceboy. Search for the one that says (Live). This is a rock god 25 years in. He just kept moving and changing.
Actually, Freddie and David wrote this together at a studio one day on the fly. There is a doc about it. This is the concert they gave after Freddie had Passed. This is the last time Deaky, bass player, played with Queen. John had played that bass beat at the studio and Freddie and David wrote the song from that. Rip guys.
I really believe the joy and power of this song was because it was sung for Freddie. It was 100 percent for him and sang to him. David and Annie were paying tribute and giving their everything to thia great man and thei friend Freddie. How else could they do that without all the passion and love in their voices and souls? They had that to give him and they made sure the world waa going to see and feel what they felt for their friend. And we did and we cried and sang with them heartbroken he was gone but thankful he left us with his beautiful gift of his music. Not taking away from Roger, Jon and brian. The band was pouring their soul and their goodbye on every song. That was enough said. I know they were also spent after this concert as were we. Thank you Freddie and his friends for leaving us with what freddie wanted. He wanted to be known for his music. In 2020 we are singing his songs. We do remember the disease that took him too fast from us but the first thing is not that it is the music and this day we are still singing, bumming, whistling or however getting that music out into the uniververse.
I have seen Queen with Freddie many times. The last time I saw Queen was the Game Tour You have said music unites us. The evidence is in the crowd and these were only the fans able to get in, imagine those watching live on MTV ( when it was actually music television) Stadiums are not filled like this anymore because the talent, music and lyrics are no longer. Thanks
Quite enjoyed the impromptu tribute when the crowd at a Greenday concert sang all of Bohemian Rhapsody while waiting for the gig to start, in 2017 more than 25 years after he died. The music just continues to live on. Vid somewhere on YT of course.
Loved this tribute to Freddie! My favorites, are Axl and Elton --" Bohemian Rhapsody"; as well as George Michaels -- "Somebody to Love". Though really the whole concert was the best!
This is from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert that you got on DVD in one of your earlier unboxing videos It's a host of rock and pop legends performing Queen classics with the surviving members of Queen
Note John Decan is playing in the band. He stopped playing with the death of Freddy. He never did any tours as the band would have various leads. So it is wonderful to see the whole band minus Freddy for this tribute. Anne and David looked like they were going to the Oscar's. Their style is impeccable.
WOOOOHHHOOOO!!! I've Been Sharing this Link for MONTHS... They are Royalty, Honoring Royalty💕 and Now He is Gone too😢 Fun watching the Video of David AUDITIONING Annie for this
I remember watching this concert on TV when I was a kid. It was amazing. There's all these great singers that come out and do Queen songs with the rest of the band. The other highlights from the show besides this was George Micheal doing Somebody to Love, Elton John and Axl Rose doing Bohemian Rhapsody, and James Hetfield and Tony Iommi doing Stone Cold Crazy.
David Bowie has a condition that causes his eye to be a lighter color. The genius that he is, was and always will be. Offering the same to Ms. Annie Lennox! xoXOXox
Queen and David Bowie originally recorded this. The fan mash-up you saw was a live performance mash-up. But there is a video for Under Pressure that they put out when the song originally was released. Regarding David’s eyes: he had an eye condition with one of his pupils enlarged, so it looked like they were two colors.
This is from the Concert for Life tribute to Freddie. All Star concert to raise funds for AIDS research. Was a great show. Probably my favorite performance of the night came from someone I wasn't even a fan of. That was George Michael's performance of Somebody to Love.
