I have never personally annotated but I agree with you, I don’t understand how you can enjoy the story of a book when while reading it the only thing you are thinking about is what to write down/tab.
The ONLY book I annotated was Encyclopedia because it was easier for me to find information I needed for my project. I would never do this to my favourite book because it takes away the focus on what is in the book. You rather focus on what to annotate not on the book itself while annotating. Why on earth would you read a book just to stop every sentance or page to annotate something? The best annotation for me is just remembering what the book is about and funny moments of that book will stay in your mind, there is no NEED to ruing the book!
You are a girl after my own heart. i hate it with a passion. It ruins the reading experience specially when it is for pleasure and it ruins a good and beautiful book. I can't even do it in my University text books for the same reason, plus i may want to read the book again and can't do it when it has been written in already
Totally Valid! I honestly think sometimes annotating can be very pretty, especially with color coded tabs, but I prefer crisp clean books. Luckily, They Both Die is not one I think I'll be picking up again anyhow, so no harm was really done haha
All your "mistakes" are exactly how I felt when I started! Especially the thinking of smart notes to take versus just enjoying the book. I always annotate super heavily at the beginning of a book, and as I get wrapped into the story I find myself annotating less. But hey it's def not for everyone and at least you gave it a shot.
