I actually think the reason this is all coming out so soon -- the horror games and movies and whatnot -- is because it *isn't* the best people can come up with, it's just the easiest. If we *do* wanna see the best ppl can come up with, we just gotta have patience and a lil awareness.
@@Darvoth Mickey Mouse IS Steamboat Willie, it's in the title of the cartoon and in posters for it that went up around that time, and though people say you couldn't use it because of *trademark* law rather than copyright, trademark only prevents things from being made in such a way that ppl would reasonably think it comes from another company.
The premise might've even kinda worked if they decided to be silly with it, but they played it DEAD serious and that is the most unhinged thing about this
Epic Mickey where “Mickey” and “Oswald” encounter a bunch the original public domain versions of iconic Disney characters. Mickey meets the original Little Mermaid, or Pinocchio, or Snow White or Mowgli to highlight the original versions of these characters and how much they’ve changed over the decades or in some cases centuries. Have the final boss be Felix the Cat or something who wants revenge on the mouse after being upstaged by him. Showcase the value and potential of the public domain and also highlight these works that Disney has basically scribbled over in pop culture
Alright I'll admit, out of all of the possibilities for this game's backstory, never in a million years would I have guessed *the plot synopsis for The Terminator.* That's wild.
It really irks me that all the assets are either stock art or just stolen art. You could argue that all the art is public domain, so it's perfectly fine to use it in the game, but the Spongebob jellyfish beg to differ (even if all the stolen art was in the public domain, I'd still consider it shitty) The fact the only other game on their steam page is an Alice in Wonderland game that also is blatantly stealing artwork while charging you seven dollars for something less polished than your average mobile game, really shows how much effort the devs are putting into their games.
The animation of the enemy at 2:04 is traced from "LACKADAISY - Jazz Cat Dance Loop" This game waited for Mickey Mouse to enter the public domain to then just steal something anyways
I guess they wanted to take advantage of the hype of it going public domain, even if it otherwise doesn't matter as much for what they did to make the game.
And this is the games requirements MINIMUM: OS: Windows 10 or newer Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E8400, 3.0GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 3.0GHz or higher Memory: 3 GB RAM Graphics: Geforce 9600 GT or AMD HD 3870 512MB or higher DirectX: Version 11 Storage: 5 GB available space FIVE FUCKING GIGS
Oh absolutely, they put effort into their game, just not nearly as much care and tedious editing that went into Cuphead. Enchanted Portals isn’t THAT bad, it’s just the ripoff energy that it radiates along with being “cuphead art style at home”. This? Hell.
I would say this looks like a Scratch game, but that would be an insult to Scratchhead (An actually Faithful Cuphead Fangame). Also, The Diney Mad Doctor is used in the trailer, & I'm not 100% sure, but the character isn't Public Domain to my knowledge. Also just got to the plot stuff so here it goes: The Plot is about Mickey & Minnie fighting to free walt disney studios from Shrek & his army of Clip art animals. edit: Mickey is apparently a Cyborg made to stop ChatGPT from Nukeing the world. This may be even a worst plot than GOBB. I was hit as soon as it said that ChaptGPT took control of the world's nukes. Just Wow.😐😐
Mad Doctor is 100% public domain. His debut film slipped under Disney’s radar and its copyright was never renewed, it’s one of the only Mickey shorts in the public domain. While it wasn’t the debut of any Mickey designs and Pluto debuted in a different short a few years earlier (one that will be PD in 2 years), the doctor did debut there and thus his character has been completely public domain for quite some time.
The original Shrek book was made in the late 80s. Also Porky Pig isn't public domain either, so get everyone but Disney to deal with this dumpsterfire.
Hopefully Disney sees this and sues them to oblivion. And before anyone says anything, If you look carefully, Mickey is wearing gloves, the Steamboat Willie Mickey that's public domain doesn't have gloves. Disney has legal grounds to sue these people to kingdom come
My prediction is the game is Cuphead's plot but with Minnie and Mickey instead of the cup brothers. Edit: Wow... that's one way to justify making a game stapled together from old cartoons and stock images.
Why are people still saying that these games are "rip-offs"? Shouldn't they be seen as fangames? Like Five nights at Freddy's, and Five nights at Candy's?
Inverse Ninjas vs The Public Domain is the only thing that does something really cool with Mickey right now (and also Steamboat Willie in Bits & Bops).
I love how everyone's first f@$%ing instinct when a non-human character enters the public is to make them a villain. Heck, this even manages to make him the villain, but ALSO the protagonist!? WTF!?
@@Chaotic_Overlordno it’s not, it’s the Cup Head from your old uncle who gets high every weekend and refuses to go a day without drinking 20 bottles of beer
It's not really related to this video, but I think you should go over Scott Cawthon's earlier games, there are a few gems in his older portfolio worth talking about. Chipper and Sons, The Desolate Hope, The Pilgrim's Progress, Iffermoon, or the Legacy of Flan games. There's quite a lot of interesting stuff to go over, including his early cinematic universe. I think they'd make for a good video topic for your main channel.
Tbh, I think a video on pizza tower mod drama would be very appreciated, whether its a main channel video or second channel upload. Its one of those communities that has a very awful drama scene yet never gets talked about, so it would be nice to see someone talk about it
I too would like a video about how the pizza tower community starts rioting whenever they see a female. /j Only mod drama I know about tbh but it covers like 2 fairly popular mods at once that people hate for some reason being Pepina Ramen and the Topin gals.
Little history lesson: In 1991, the first Sonic the Hedgehog game was released as Sega's answer to Mario. While Yuji Naka did get inspiration from Mario in the sense of seeing how fast he could clear the first level of the 1985 game, Sonic still had gameplay, lore, and style all its own that made it a smash hit. And then the imitators started coming in with how blatant they tried copying the formula. Bubsy, Awesome Possum, any mascot platformer you can think of with a wisecracking protagonist and attempting to replicate Sonic's high-speed gameplay. With the exception of Gex because it did a different gameplay style with its wisecracking protagonist, all of them failed because as blatant as it was that they were copying the Sonic formula, they failed to realize that you make your game around a mach-speed character, not make a regular platformer and stick a mach-speed character in it. I'm seeing a repeat with Cuphead clones. The Moldenhauer brothers and their team made a game around things they enjoyed, faithfully replicating the 1930s cartoon art style and putting their own spin on run and gun games of the 80s and 90s and it was a smash hit. Then the imitators start coming out of the woodworks with games that look like they were funded with boxtops and prayers and don't play very well or look coherent because they were slapped together strictly adhering to the surface level characteristics of "classic cartoons, run and gun, boss fights, Nintendo Hard". I'll at least give Xixo Games the benefit of the doubt that the devs played at least one Cuphead level while getting most of their ideas from watching a Let's Play and then trying to make a fan game, but Rubberhose Rampage? No, that one I'm confident the devs are AI Bros that only made to stick it to Disney now that the Steamboat Willie iteration of Mickey Mouse is public domain, there isn't a shred of love and passion in there.
Can't believe this scratch game is releasing on consoles and pcs. Edit: there's no way this game wasn't partialy made with ai, what's that description..
The people who wrote the description of the game be like:- Okay uhmm.. let’s add evil AI chatbots, that sounds interesting? Aliens maybe? Oh let’s make it apocalyptic world. Oh fuck, steamboat Willie has gone in public domain. Let’s add that too, also they’re robots disguises as two cartoon mice, that sounds good:D.
Happy you think the same I saw the replies on twitter about this everyone was like “wow can’t wait” “looks awesome” blah blah etc but imo it looks ass and kinda rushed it’s just another fast cash grab tbh
Haven't read the comments, I'm about 4:56 into the vid, I'm gonna guess the plot is Mickey/Willie hunting down his own copyright license to give back to Disney, or some batshit insane thing like that? EDIT Ok I wasn't expecting the plot to Terminator, and I'm 5/10 ig
I remember seeing a platformer that only uses public domain assets, and is about mickey accepting his own "mortality", seriously check that out! So much of the good creatives coming up with what to do with mickey are under the radar because these cheap cashgrabs keep gettung atention?
"..and GTA VI walked up to Rubberhose Rampage, and asked him, 'would you win in a fight between Enchanted Portals?' and Rubberhose Rampage said, 'nah, id win."
Okay, I'm gonna take a gamble. The game is about Steamboat Willie's boat breaking apart, and the enemies ran off each with one of the necessary parts. You go against them to get them back and get as far away as you can.
I saw two weapons that already exist in other media that I think was straight up ripped from them. The boomerangs being the classic bloons boomerang upgrade (the original one where you play as a singular Monke throwing darts) and the peashooter which was taken from Enter the Gungeon.
What the hell am I even looking at here? To give Enchanted Portals some credit, at least that game did look like it had some genuine potential but was severely brought down by the failed kickstart and some other bad stuff. This though? This just SCREAMS "lazy, soulless cash grab".
The one time a Public domain property isn't used for horror....and it's bad, Hey, i ain't losing my hopes, Anyone can make anything, heck, even i can make something! So maybe it ain't all bad.
It's really a shame, because a game like this CAN work. like a boss rush sort of game that sure, can be a bit like cuphead but more original, about fighting public domain characters in boss battles. like a Mickey game like that can definitely work and be fun if given enough time and care, but it's so obvious that THIS shit is NOT it at ALL.
thing is I think a lot of these characters are technically still copyrighted also mickey having gloves in this I think it gives Disney the right to shut it down.
I think the plot is about this mouse escaping from a toy factory and is on his journey to escape from being forever trapped as a corporation's mascot and be free in the public domain. Then, and only then, can everyone can make their own shitty Cuphead clone based on him. Also! I'm, like, an 8 today. Thank you for the charisma you give even to the daily videos, uhyeah! ^^
Febuary first is my birthday, screw spending time with family, i know what ill be doing XD. Really tho awesome video and cograts on managing to keep the upload streak alive lol.
