My very first Epiphone was a 2012 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty I bought in 2013 for my 51st birthday. It was made in Unsung, Korea. I swapped the pickups for the Gibson 57s and 490. It is truly a thing of beauty.
Those magic fingers make anything sound good! Another $100 journey filled with fun, fun and fun and the pickup swap is a huge improvement. I can't get over how good that $100 Epiphone Jnr you have sounds, one of the best sounding Juniors period!! Your excitement is intoxicating Thor, love these video's.
Hi Brian, thanks! You are right about that junior. And that is even a more recently made Chinese model. I did have a bespoke pickup made for it, so in fairness I'd say that has a lot to do with the tone. But it is a great guitar to play. Cheers!
So glad to see you picking up these Epiphones …. Casino next? 😉…. I bought a new Epi SG … loved the guitar , but I always felt like my little amp didn’t like it (humbuckers) as much as my casino ( P90s) … so I sold it with the intention of someday buying another SG that had P90s in it….
Yes, I am totally falling for these low budget Epiphone guitars. And it seems the 90s models from Korea are especially good. That said, my Epiphone jr. is a more recently made Chinese model, and it is also a great guitar. A Casino with P90s would be cool. I think one of my friends have one. Maybe I'll borrow that... Cheers!
Hi, I also found that it was a 1990 model, but I didn't know about the paper label indicating it came from the Samick factory. Thank you for sharing that 😊 Cheers!
@@GUITARSGIZMOSI've had a few epiphone basses, but the only one I kept in my collection is a samick-made '94 el capitan, a well made piece of kit with a cherryburst finish just like a gibson hummingbird
I have the Epiphone 61 Les Paul Custom SG with the three pickups. I have a Duncan 59 in the neck, a Jeff Beck in the bridge and the Eric Johnson pickup in the middle position. It's a great guitar! I'm going to take it out of storage soon and revisit it. Looks like those classic 57 are great pickups Thor! Sounds great!
@@GUITARSGIZMOS I need to learn about recording guitar and editing in a seperate audio track before I attempt this. I should probably practice more as well😂
With these Korean Epis there's a couple of gotchas you need to look out for (just in my experience). 1. Check the neck angle. Its often a bit sus. 2. Check the scale length and specifically check the bridge has been put in the right place and that the posts are seated cleanly and not tilting or sunken. Other than this, you will often get a great guitar!
Well, it is good advice to check any guitar before you choose to buy it. I can't say that I have found that any of my Korean acquaintances have been more prone to have issues like this. Cheers!
As always beautiful playing Thor, Korea make great guitars I have a Cort Matt Guitar Murphy I bought new now 25 yeas old, just a beautiful guitar to play.
@@GUITARSGIZMOS About 2 years ago I did some work on the guitar, new pickups all new wiring, pots & bridge & the part the I thought made the biggest improvement to the tone of the guitar was the nut (and the easiest & cheapest mod) I put a Graphtech TUSQ seemed to be fuller & richer.
@@Dubbya1956 I have also found that the nut and bridge will make a noticeable difference in tone. It may be a bit guess work on what the tone will be like, but as you say it is a cheap and pretty straight forward mod to do.
