This channel is by Thor Oliversen from Norway and is about the hunt for great guitar tone. A creative, DIY, self-taught approach to find and utilise available gizmos to get there. It would only be fair to mention that I lean towards Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Blues, Rock and Jazz genres so my preferences in tone will be from what you normally find there.

To put it short ... I like the sound of the round ones better... think the notes blossom more .. The flat wounds make the sound too dark for my taste .... But it depends most of all of taste ...
Awesome guitar and playing ! Do you mind telling me where you sourced the aged hardware and plastics, please ? Im going to do a partscaster build soon, and i want to use a mjt body as a base. They just had a 3.14oz pine body strat in nicotine white (proper vintage white imho) on ebay. Didn't have the funds for it at the time tho.
Hi, thanks 😊 To be honest, I can't remember. I've had all kind of parts laying in drawers or taken other project guitars apart and used what I had. It most likely comes from random shopping on ebay and such sites. This pine body coupled with this Allparts neck is a great match. It's my best partscaster build so far. Good luck with your project!
Thanks, I have to admit you might find some less affordable guitars among my videos 😄 But these Korean made Epiphone's have proven to me to be great guitars. This SG has such comfortable playability. BTW, I just subscribed to your channel. I see you are a photographer and also use a Z6II. I work as a graphic designer/photographer and love to see your type of street photography. Cheers!
Thanks, great comparison, very helpful! I prefer the Fishman's warmth in these samples. The sound has more body and sounds like it better represents the guitars' natural sound (if that can even be determined with accuracy, etc); the AER sounds almost subtractive and thinner, like it removes the guitars' low mids or something (in the name of transparency?). Anyway, I suppose it could be argued that the Fishman circuit accentuates the lower mids, although, having compared the Loudbox Mini to it's bigger brother the Loudbox Artist in person, I always have preferred the mini, because it sounds like my guitar, only louder and the Artist sounds boxier, more mid-heavy. P.D. The vocal sounds clearer through the AER🙂
Hi, that's a good question. I'm afraid I was a bit too hard with the scissors tool in my edit process, and I discovered after I published the video that a vital part where I talked about that was gone. But in short, it is about the preamp inside it that provides a kind of magic ingredient, almost like the more famous Echoplex Preamp. I have read that it is an Analog Devices JFET preamp. I also think it gives a less intrusive tremolo effect, almost like a soft heartbeat. Good idea to do a separate video on the Supa-Trem. Cheers!
And like the less bright sounding bridge you installed, recommend you keep other pickup in case you sell it or hand it down, so the next player has stock option, and for providence.
Because of you Thor, I dug out my tremolo pedal that I ordered from Ebay about 15 years ago. It's an effect that I have totally ignored over the years. It's an E-Wave and obviously a clone of something or other but I really like it! Thanks my friend!
How cool. I've always had a tremolo on my board, but that said, I'm quite picky in what kind. I've tried a few that didn't do it for me. The reason I like the Fulltone Supa-Trem and now this Harmonious Monk, is the softness of the effect. I still prefer the Fulltone as an amplitude tremolo because of that, but also because it has a preamp that does something to the overall tone. Almost like the EchoPlex preamp. Cheers!
It's pure guitar porn. I hope youtube won't put a ban on it😄 This wobbly adds a new interesting spice to the plate. I can dig it. Thanks for stopping by Paul.
Another great video Thor! You always get a great sound! The play out was so musical. All I know is that now I need a Tremolo pedal....thanks a bunch!! lol. Love the vids mate.
Thanks Brian. A tremolo is the one modulation effect I have always kept on my board. This new harmonic type gives me something inspiring to use. And I have missed that since I decided to get rid of other kinds like phaser or chorus. Cheers.
I doubt I will be selling this guitar😊Do you have some info on it? Please use my email address if that is more convenient. You'll find it under the channels info tab. Cheeers.
Thanks man. I'll tell you what, you can have it for free if you'll take the shipping cost. Send me an email and we can discuss the details. You'll find the email address under the info tab for this channel. Cheers 😀
@@GUITARSGIZMOS, Pity I was some days late on this video. Many years ago had a Custom Custom in a guitar, but in search for the tone I sold it and have highly regretted. It do not have a jazzy or bluesy sweet tone, but something that really finds the way into my soul. I will get one again, some time. Except of that the Maxon is a really great PU.
Interesting stuff. I want to try a treble bleed on my project strat as kind of the last piece of the puzzle with its electronics. But then i want to get another project strat an try a PTB pair of tone knobs to see how that works.
Thor, I’m always glad to see a new vid from you. Your playing is always so inspiring to me.. I’m still very much a beginner/intermediate player and you’ve made me want to improve my right hand.. incorporating my fingers, something about the nails and flesh on the strings adds such wonderful flavor... although I’m just starting to learn to hybrid pick(maybe someday will lose the pick altogether, or learn the chris buck “magic trick” of tucking it way and bringing in the thumb.. ) ... anyway, thanks for all the great content and inspiration!
Thank you so much my friend 😊 I have the opposite challenge - to play with a pick without picking too hard, or to be able to have about the same flexibility as I do without it. I would love to be able to tuck it away and bringing it in when I want to. I would have to decide to have the patience to rehearse it though... Cheers!
@@GUITARSGIZMOS less than 100 dB are more or less doable at home (it depends on the neighbor's tolerance :)). You're very far from pushing the amp and nevertheless the slightly overdriven sound is amazing. From what pedal are you getting it? Thanks a lot for the feedback. Cheers.
@@ruipina5636 I used the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive deluxe, with a low gain setting, just to push the amp a bit. It has been my favourite OD pedal for many years.
Seriously, when you are doing a side-by-side of two amps, PUT A CLEAR LABEL ON EACH ONE AND DISPLAY THAT WHEN YOUR ARE PLAYING THAT ONE! Which one the user is hearing is never as obvious as you think it is.
I have Strats made of ash, alder, basswood, and roasted pine. The only one that I hear any real difference from is the basswood. And even that is very subtle. Was your pine body roasted?
I just picked up an Epiphone 2005 Les Paul and put some Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups in them. It feels very much like my Gibson LP Standard that is a 2021. Blind folded I don't think I would be able to tell the feel of them apart. Both necks are shaped the same. The Antiquities are much mellower while the burstbucker are higher treble some refer to it as pokie. Great video.
Love your playing. I also picked the Celestion Blue without knowing what it was. I'm building a 5E3 amp kit and after your video a Blue will probably go in the cabinet!
@@brianweisbrod7082 Thank you! I hope you will love the Celestion Blue. It brought a noticeable difference in a positive way for me. Good luck with your build👍
Great idea, presentation and chops! That will work just fine in one of my Teles. Thanks for the part number and video link, a great Tele is about to get even better. UPDATE: The switch has been ordered.
Thanks so much for doing this. I’m considering a new speaker for my Blues Jr III also. I believe what’s missing in your video is the way that stock speaker sounds so stiff and boxy unless you can crank the amp to concert levels. C Rex seems to really fill out low end. I’m assuming that would make it sound “bigger” in the room? I might just go ahead and order one.
What a beautiful guitar! I love it. The shadow of the Skull, the dark board, the patina, the colour…. and of course the sound! You have something quite special there Thor. Congrats
Thanks Paul, it's the kind of guitar that makes me wanna reach for it for its looks, and it inspires me to play more relaxed with its sustaining tones.
It does sound great I’ve got the first year production 1992 one with the clean pickguard, these don’t come up often Noel Gallagher of oasis used one to write most of the early oasis songs, it feels and plays great what a sound if you can pick one up for a good price I highly recommended it
It is Tokai made Greco EG59-60 ( as seller said 1989-1990 ) , pickups are Fujigen made Screamin Paf. So this is basically Greco branded Tokai LS-60 wood with Greco pickups. ( Fujigen was very busy than so Tokai stepped in to help to cover a production number quotes with some models) Looks all original condition. Not a nitro finish but a thin poly. I had the exact same one ( but a bit lighter example than yours) - great guitars 🎸😊
Thanks, I appreciate you asking, must mean you like it 😀 At this point I have some plans for making a demo using this song, so I would like to keep it. But I will share the chord progression if you're keen on making something for yourself. A-part: | Bm | f#m | Gmaj | em | | Bm | f#m | Gmaj7 | em - Bb6#5 | B-part: | Dmaj7 | em - D/F# | G - G#6#5 | A7 - Bb6#5 |
Thor, she's a beauty indeed and sounds lovely. I recently purchased a 1990 Orville By Gibson Les Paul in Cherry Sunburst with a plain top which was made in the Terada factory in Japan. Also, a lovely Les Paul which weighs in at a touch over 4 kilos so quite a good weight. Enjoy your new Greco mate.
Thanks, I had a challenge deciding between this Greco and an Orville. After some communication with the seller I ended up with the Greco. I bet the Orville is a great guitar also. Cheers.
I love it! Thank you for sharing. I have 2 Grecos and they're both among the best guitars that I've not only owned but also have played. Personally, that's a near perfect weight for me, so I hope it works for you.
