The whole concept of calling something a moneygrab seems absurd to me. Literally everything that is for sale is a moneygrab. The question isn't wether it's a moneygrab, its wether or not it's a good value. I don't own arks of omen, but I love boarding actions, so it seems like a good idea to me. The problem I have isn't that it's a moneygrab, the problem is that I have to buy 4 books plus a terrain set to play it. Why the hell can't they just sell it all in a single box-set?
ya the boarding actions boxes were great, but massively under-produced. if GW really wanted people to get interested, or make some sales, they would have made some new ones... thats what makes me think this is just a quick cash grab. sell people the same content as the arks books, consolidated into a new book, with minimal new content, or changes.
no issues finding the UK. GW has them in stock instore and on their website and most independents in stock too. GW's biggest problem is international distribution.
I'm moving more and more towards smaller point games for at home. I'm really enjoying Spearhead in the AoS setting, and I am very bullish on the next iteration of Combat Patrol after the reception of Spearhead, this is exactly why I was perfectly ok buying in on this release of Boarding action, its sort of like a Combat Patrol/Spearhead without training wheels that isn't going to take 3-4 hours to play. Don't get me wrong, I'm still down with our groups twice a month big 2k points games, but I just don't have the time or opportunities to play at home at those time requirements more often than that.
I ordered mine. Can't keep up with all the changes in normal 40k so I'm hoping this would be something "future proof" to play independently with my kids and a few friends. Also bought the terrain in the end of 9th and its cool.
Honestly, what isn’t a money grab for GW? 😁 I got the terrain through Kill Team, so I’m interested in getting the chance to use it in 40K. Edit: Nevermind, I just looked and they want $65 for a softcover book. Black Flag it is.
Excited to play as I only managed to grab the first and then the last box of the ITD Kill Team boxes and then it took a while for me to build and paint it. Never got any of the 9th Edition Boarding Actions books as I was speculating on a compressed re-release with 10th edition. Seems that worked out well!
My guess is, that there are all 48 AoO Missions and maybe 6 new missions (if not any of the 44+ Missions released in White Dwarf). To put in the 48 AoO missions is more or less fine but just 6 other Missions while the most White Dwarf issues with Boarding Action missions got 6 Missions per setting/issue is just thin. Some army rules or not doesn't bother me much, I have all BA-Kill Team boxes, two thirds or so of all the Boarding Patrols and the 5 AoO books as well as all 9th codices Here in Germay the book is listet at 55 Euro msrp as far as I know. That's 15 to 20 Euro too much for my taste. So far I don't see any good reason to buy this book. Maybe later if it's something that gets additional discount.
ya that sounds about right. i'm expecting that there are minimal changes to the old content. while its nice to have it all consolidated in one book, i see know viable reason to purchase this. nobody plays boarding actions, and if they did, i'm not even sure it would stick. rather play literally anything else. over priced like you said, with little value
It could have been something special if we had gotten a model range of troops specialized in that sort of fight. But since we couldn't even get new Ork pirates for the game mode it feels like an afterthought to sell some cool terrain.
I have been waiting for something like this. The previous first boarding actions book with the rules for the game mode immediately sold out and I couldn't find it anywhere so I am glad they are doing a re-release for all the boarding action stuff. I skipped out on all the other arks of omens books because I wasn't able to get the first one that had the rules you needed to play.
I’m excited for this book, I have all of the AoO books I’m just lazy and want them all in one place. I’ve gotten more Boarding Actions games in than regular games of 40K.
i'm glad to hear. i like the idea of consolidated content, but hard to justify the book, if you're not regularly playing. sounds like you're one of the few, glad to hear its something you will enjoy!
honestly I really want to try boarding actions, I jumped into Combat Patrol with my partner and damn is it rough. Cant investing building larger armies so being stuck with Combat Patrol seems silly. Hopefully Boarding Patrol is a nicer gameplay experience.
I was previously excited about Boarding Actions during the AoO releases, but after so much of it was underproduced and ignored for so long the excitement went stale. Maybe if this was released with some new Boarding Patrol boxes it could've revived the interest in me a bit more.
No the most ridiculous thing about this is you have to have 'similar but ever so slightly different' datasheets. No GW, just make this a regular 40K game or a Kill Team game. Not one of your half baked combat patrol 'same but a little bit different plus there's new books and rules to buy' things like Cityfight/Cities of Death, Planetstrike, Apocalypse and the various killteam/combat patrol variants of old 40K.
Didn’t pick up the Arcs of Omen stuff. Passed on this book as well. I’ve purchased a ton of the terrain though. Never played it. To be fair I haven’t played a game this edition. I buy way more than anything else, lol. That said, these types of books have just out priced me. I’ve pre ordered the Agents books and the combat patrol (through my FLGS).
I was going to ask you your thoughts on this since I saw the notice about BA coming out. Our local Warhammer store now has two days dedicated to AO Spearhead and plan on doing two days for Boarding Actions and 40K. The Spearhead community has taken off there. I have a lot of 1/2 armies for Spearhead since I have been collecting so long but a lot of them require newer models (hmmmmmm....) I am putting together a Slaves to Darkness force from a 3D printing source and my son and I will play it here at home.
i think BA could be fun, and was excited about it initially, but it never really caught on. typically i find the initial excitement of something new is a good indicator of potential. then i evaluate its actual popularity initially (are people playing it) then after a few months. this gives a good idea of its sustainability. BA had almost no people playing it, and it might as well not exist after a year, as i've never played, or seen anyone play it. i think if GW was going to support it, there would be new boxes to go with it, as they sold very well. so for me BA is dead, and this is an easy way to re-sell the same rules repackaged in a new book, with minimal changes. its a pass for me. as far as sigmar/spearhead. we have a lot of local excitement, and a new escalation league with lots of interest. everyone is building/painting/playing. so i can tell it will be great and sustainable. i played my first game of sigmar new edition, 500 pts, it was fast and fun. i think it has a lot of potential, but i suspect most people will gravitate towards big sig, in time. i played gargants, my opponent was stormcast. spearhead will be fast and fun, and i think the new rules are simple enough to enjoy, good enough, that it will last, and the spearhead missions/twists will make it a nice alternative for fast fun games. in the end though, big sig is where its at, as sigmar is very much still "hero-hammer" (big-sig = full sized age of sigmar)
I was a fan of boarding action, but again the lack of support and the hastily rushed nature of it just being tacked on to ninth was just dumb. I got like 2 tournaments with my guard codex after 5.5 years of waiting and then tenth came through and I only got like 10 maybe 13 games of boarding action in before everyone had moved on. GW needs to stop jumping to different projects before adaquetely developing a new system. Now I'm hesitant to try anything new like epic, I've got no interest in it now because boarding actions, I've got no interest in Horus Heresy because of the lack of support(I'll play they old edition). They just change shit to get you to buy it and not think.
54 missions in one book is pretty good. Id be pissy if i had all the Ark of Omen books though. Didnt want to buy into Boarding Action because even from the jump learning theyd be a limited run was just..dumb to even get into it
ya its cool that there are a ton of missions, but honestly i'm not sure how many people, even the hardcore BA fan club have, or will ever play 54 games. let alone 54 different missions.
@@WarHammerMan true. But could look at it the other way around. Even if its never supported again you could get a literal lifetime out of the game. Omg im tempting myself lol
ya if i was going to get this book, it would be to review it, and i just dont think its worth the time/effort/money. i dont think this ever caught on, and GW isnt even making new boarding patrols, so they clearly dont care about sales. just an easy way to sell the same content, in a new book, with minimal changes IMO
