The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. They had a lot of hits including "The End", "Light My Fire", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "Love Me Two Times", "L.A. Woman", "People Are Strange", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Roadhouse Blues", "Love Her Madly", "Riders On The Storm". Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.

A whole lot of hits from the Doors. Seriously. But they're better in the studio. Have to remember that in the Sixties, bands were playing larger venues, but their audio equipment wasn't always up to it. Like, the Beatles quit touring because in the arenas they couldn't hear themselves play. BTW, it's not the Super Bowl, though the first Super Bowl was in 1967. It's the Hollywood Bowl ... a music venue.

A bit of good advice: You should almost always listen to studio versions first. That's how the listeners knew the songs in the 50s, 60s, & 70s, & even beyond. We listened to the radio to hear the new songs (old ones, too) & whenever possible, we bought the records we liked. A live performance was usually heard only when you were at a concert. Occasionally, artists would release live albums, coming from recorded concerts, & there's definitely some GREAT stuff among them, but recording equipment at the time didn't always capture the all the nuances of a performance. That's why, IMHO, you should react to the versions most widely known, then follow the comments to lead you to the best of the live performances that you'd like to hear. BTW - This performance was at The Hollywood Bowl, an iconic concert venue in the heart of Hollywood, CA.

Then people who benefitted from it started giving money to the counselors to make sure they could take care of the kids at Christmas. Then it got out and some parents organized and got all the alumni donating money every year. This year we raised over 40,000.

Jim Morrison was reportedly inspired to write this song by “a young black girl” he saw at Venice Beach! All great artists have their muses they say. 🤤 Side note: the musical structure is almost a complete rip off of The Kinks’ “All Day and All Of The Night,” another ‘60s jam! 🔥🤙

"The Bowl" is The Hollywood Bowl, not a sports venue, but a music/performance venue. My favorite line in this song is "Do you hope to make her see you, fool?" although "she holds her head so high, like a statue in the sky" is a close second. Jim Morrison was primarily a poet, and he would set his poems to a melody to help himself remember them, and the rest of the doors would kind of build the song around the melody & lyrics, although guitarist Robbie Krieger was also a lyricist. Please post a reaction to my very favorite Doors song, "Soul Kitchen." "The Crystal Ship," "Touch Me," "The End," and "Love Her Madly," are great ones as well. -JR in Miami

Jim Morrison was a poet/filmmaker in college. He met Ray Manzerek, the keyboard player with a musical degree for the piano. They made a band from there. Moonlight Drive is the first song they ever made.

The "Bowl" was a reference to The Hollywood Bowl. It is an amphitheater in the greater Los Angeles area. It has been in operation since 1922, It will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary next year. Big Bands played there. Judy Garland performed there in the 1960s. The Beatles played there twice. The Plasmatics played there. The Hollywood Bowl has had a wide variety of musical acts from various genres of music perform there.

I was at this Doors concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I can tell you this had a very different vibe from the other Doors concert I had attended at the time. Jim was fairly sedate, the word that got around was that he dropped acid before the show. Anyone who was there would probably remember it took a long time before he started dinging. He was preocupied with some insect that was on the ground for at least 20 minutes. There was not the usual wildness but it was a great performance, none the less. The Doors were and are my favorite all time band. Check some other Doors concerts which show differeces in his voice and wild behavior.

I used to have a Jim Morrison poster on my bedroom door. I was too young when he was alive to know the doors but growing up in the 80s we loved the hippie rock, metal, glam rock but at the same time loved when grunge blew glam or hair bands ( we just called it metal) out of the water. Alternative Rock did too.. Also Janis is my spirit animal too like Amber. We did have it ALL- GEN X FOREVER!!!

Growing up, and hearing this on that oldies station, I just _knew_ this was the Rolling Stones. Probably because when Jim Morrison screams HELLO, he sounded so much like Mick Jagger. Yes you should check out the studio version. And they have lots of good stuff to check out. I love "Roadhouse Blues," "When You're Strange," "Light My Fire," and "Riders on the Storm." First time I heard Riders, I was driving home from work, it was dark and rainy, and this long and slightly jazzy intro was playing on a classic rock station. I thought, "got to be the Doors "
