Since David Duval has been doing commentary (which I really like, by the way) for the Golf Channel I have gotten quite a bit of interest in going back over his swing and my opinions as to how his game slipped so much. Here I show all the swings my friend Mark Diamond and I took during a practice round for the PGA Championship at Medinah in 1999 when David was ranked 2nd in the world. It was the best golf I have ever seen played: he never missed a shot and was 8 under through 13 holes. It wasn’t long before he won his first and only major, after which he pretty much fell off the face of the earth. I have always contended that his main problem was his hand path dropping in transition, and here I also note how he flattened his backswing plane at P3 and got his left arm deeper across his chest, leading to the dropping hands and a “stuck” approach position at P6. He recently did a bit on the Golf Channel explaining what he was working on (which I show here), but as I point out his swing is still doing the same things that got him in trouble in the first place.
