After Mr. Rowe's "graduation" videos this year, I wish I had done trade school instead of college. 🙂 I was blessed with a great high school education, a love for learning (especially history), and wonderful parents that did their best to teach myself, my younger autistic brother, and our genius youngest brother. 🙏 I have learned good work ethic and some manual skills, but someday will go to a trade school. 🤞 It'll be awhile because I was just fired two days ago for supporting my community's nickname "Dixie" in a Facebook comment 🤷, but thank you for being a great example Mike Rowe. Simple actions can mean the world to many. #KeepSmiling 👍🇺🇸

@@brandona4618 Fired from Children's Museum job for commenting support of the word "Dixie", my town's nickname for about 160 years, on a Facebook post (...& maybe for calling Socialists insults 🤔🤷) Though they'll say it was breach of confidentiality. I was upset about a new room at the Children's Museum (sponsored by Dixie State University), not going to have the name on the wall because the rumor already going around was the University was going to waste money like others changing the name & brand. 🙄 ...Just because some people with light skin are offended by the word.

Amen. Looking back at my own path, Mike was one of the first people who I encountered who articulated all the benefits to the trades and really helped open me up to head that direction. Sometimes for me I dont consider something until I hear someone make a good case for it, and right away I get that thought 'duh, ofcourse this is right, why didnt I consider that?'

Well done, sir...and ladies. After serving as a nuclear engineer and chemist aboard a ballistic missile submarine, a decade in industry with DuPont and 35 years as an executive in high-tech, I completely transitioned my career as a digital fabricator. I'm now the go-to person for 3D modeling, 3D printing and CNC routing at our company. Every day brings a new challenge. More than that, every day is more fulfilling than even the best of days I spent behind a desk for all those years. Thanks Mike for all you do!

Too cool for words!! I taught low voltage electronic systems at a career school (Lincoln Tech, in Rhode Island)....until the school decided that expanding massage therapy made more sense to them!! Just another part of the skilled trades dilemma. @The Dude Anything in life is a risk. Driving a car down a highway is a bigger risk than working most blue collar jobs. It’s certainly not Mike Rowe’s fault if people got hurt on a job site. He’s a promoter of hard work and good work ethics by promoting blue collar trade school scholarships. If you don’t agree then you don’t agree. But it seems futile for you to send a complete stranger like me a bunch of clips of selected and edited interviews somehow thinking you know the person being interviewed the subject at hand and you definitely don’t know the person you sent the RU-vid clip to! That’s the problem with this country is that some people just want to always be in a “safe space” and get government hand outs! Life is a risk. If blue collar work is not for you don’t do it. But don’t think that those who do it or support it are less than, or somehow responsible for a tragedy. If you don’t like how safety is at industrial companies then go get a job at OSHA and do something about it...just Don’t sit behind your keyboard in mommas basement and think you know everything about everything cause you googled it and found a video about it! Grow up get a life a real sweat breaking job and learn good ethics instead of trolling people online! I still love what Mike Rowe Works does! You haven’t changed my mind. He won’t stop doing what he does because of your opinion. Cause that’s all it is your opinion. And I learned a long time ago. Opinions of people, who I don’t know, who don’t know me, and who have no clue...your opinion doesn’t matter. And I am not a hater I don’t usually respond to trolls. But you you’re special!

Yes!!! I was just looking for a new video from you last night, and was saddened that the most recent was published months ago. I didn't cry but I'm crying happy tears now. I can relate to Victoria's childhood experience, as my girlhood was similar, except there wasn't anyone on TV who reminded me of my Dad. But wow, you're kind of a father figure to her. It's like you helped raise her by being an inspiring role model even when her dad couldn't be home. How neat is that? I can relate to Carlyn as far as the academic background. The two make a great team. Congratulations to both of them, and best wishes for a fulfilling future.

Mike, hear is a short story. my niece called me one day crying she had just spent 10s of thousands of dollars to complete the big culinary school hear in downtown Portland, Oregon and when graduated the only job available was a line cook at Denny's. she called me and asked for help at the time of the call I was a foreman for a large union electrical contractor hear in Oregon working at a very large chip manufacture. I told her to come on over Monday and I will put her to work as a material handler that was about 7 years ago. she got accepted into the apprenticeship program to become an electrician she now is a foreman for that very same electrical contractor at that same chip factory hear in Oregon. about 6 months ago she bought her first home, I'm so proud of her. she now has the ability to support her 3 kids all on hew own.

Mike, you would be proud. Arizona has a great, CTED/GIFT program, I instruct High school juniors and seniors who come to class 4 days a week, 2 hours a day and we teach them about a years worth of an electrical apprenticeship, to include NFPA 70E Electrical safety, to Basic AC/DC all the way up to electrical schematics and motor control. They also earn 11 college credits while in High School from Eastern Arizona College towards an Electrical Degree. The students learn to draw up a Start /Stop circuit for a motor control circuit, then wire it up to our electrical simulator and then ensure it works. Then the simulator's computer will put problems in the circuits and the students have to trouble shoot it until it's fixed. In the last 2 1/2 years, the company I work for, which is a very well know mining company has hired 17 of these former GIFT Students into the Electrical Apprentice programs. They are filling a critical need in the Trades. It is truly a win win situation. We have students right out of high school who love what they do and are making great money, learning a great trade and providing for themselves. Oh, and not accumulating a ton of college debt. We appreciate what you do. MELVIN LEWIS WELLS JR.

Love hearing these stories. Knowing so many people going into incredible amounts of debt to get degrees with a low ROI, it has been all too clear to me for YEARS that trade school needs to be promoted more and more from high school on up. There's alot of unfilled demand for these skills, and while I'm not in the industry, I do plenty of projects that involve manual labor, and there's few things in life more satisfying than having built or fixed something and seeing the result of your work. Keep up the great work, Mike.

Makersmith is a perfect model for future schools. My idea is to put it in an empty mall and have every industry/subject in their own space, 3d printing, chemistry, programming, electronics, Healthcare welding etc. But all under one roof, kids would learn something usefull and ACTUALLY want to be there. Makersmith is a space to store/use bulky equipment for people who live in small apartments, and a cheap alternative to buying expensive equipment, they'll teach you to use it aswell.
