Great video! You're doing exactly what Id want to do again with a Dual Sport. I'd only buy it to trailer to a good offroad area and spend 2/3 the time offroad. Traveling, commuting, and easy short offroad, I'll use my Scrambler 1200
Cool vid 👍 Love my 2023 exc-f 500. Super versatile bike. I can cruise on the roads and also tackle the tough technical single track. Fantastic bike! If I only had one bike, this would be it.
If I could have only 1 bike I would have probably chosen the 690 enduro but I have a street bike with some power so I chose lightweight power with the 500
@@812motoexactly what i want to say about 690 camper to this model both of them come with 65hp right? And the question is if the 690 still will be better to road engine life? Top speed? All the parameters
@@812moto Definitely can't go wrong with either though but it's what you said about the vibrations and I think the fact that I'll be doing more road than dirt made me go with a crf. I ride solo so the KTM 500's weight definitely was appealing. I plan on stretching out my intervals though since I'll be about 70/30 road use and not really beating up the engine much.
@@noyzizi the 500 is super uncomfortable for long street rides. But a good seat would fix that issue for me. The vibrations you get used to but they are still there none the less
Great video, good to see time taken on the road. How tall are you if you don't mind me asking? Thanks and look forward to future videos. I'm undecided on whether to go the 500 or 690 route. I like the weight of the 500 but as I will do more road work the 690 is probably better. Heart wants the 500 though!
I am 5'10. This bike is pretty tall but very manageable at my height. the bike is super light which makes it really easy to handle at stoplights. I dont have any experience with the 690 but i like how you can get them in a factory Sumo. Range is probably miles better on the 690 as well. I have a set of sumo wheels on order for this 500 if you are looking for sumo in both. I should have them by the end of the month and if weather permits i will have a video on that setup!
@@812moto Thanks for that. Unfortunately I'm 175cm so will need heels! Apparently its all the rage to get leg extensions here in the UK (cost £80K plus you have both legs broken!)
@@AlpineTreeCare I am 176 cm tall (don't know about my inseam) with 75 kg and I had a 450 EXC (2007). I never had problems with the height. The bike ducks a bit the moment you sit on it.... so no worries.
When it warms up I’ll throw a better tire on the front. The tire the dealer replaced the recall tkc80 with is super sketch off road. Then I’ll get y’all a trail riding video. Yes I did take the mirrors off but I have some mirrors mounted under the bars now
Unless you want the bottom end torque. My 350 doesn’t lift the front end, in a 3rd gear roll on like the 500 does. The 350 revs highs as a mofo though! And the 350 is only 6 pounds lighter.
Is that a bike you'd ride 90minutes to a good offroad park or trails, or would you put it in a truck and trailer it down? I already have a Scrambler 1200 which can do easy offroad. But for goat tracks and single track, and hilly bumpy offroad, this would be MUCH better on location. I had a DR650 but it was more like my Scrambler 1200... too heavy for much serious offroad.
I would not want to ride this thing 90 minutes without a seat upgrade. The seat is very stiff and you get a lot of vibrations through the handle bars and the foot pegs. An upgraded seat and some good boots may help with that. But stock it would make for a pretty rough trip
@@maxflight777 You don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not saying it can easily do advanced offroad. I'm saying it can do easy offroading, such as hardpacked smoot dirt roads, gravel roads, and light offroad. Its not good for advanced single-track and goat trails and techincal riding. That's not what I said or meant.
@@maxflight777 It easily does softroads….30-50mph softroads. It’s terrible at single track and motorcross and enduro goat trails. But 25-50mph on hardpacked dirt and gravel is AMAZING! This is what I mean when I say it can do easy-level off-road.
Yo dude could you possibly help me out i’ve been trying to figure this out for weeks now I need a fueling solution for my new 500 I was tempted to go with the power commander at first as opposed to spending $1000 on the GET but the power commander has an issue where it constantly throws a check engine light and the only way to get rid of it is to shut the power off and turn it back on and I don’t wanna have to deal with that are you running an aftermarket ECU do you have any suggestions for me?
I was being cheeky. The comments are just saying it isn’t a built designed for road use, it’s a enduro bike that has tags for convenience, not as a purpose built street machine. You covered it in the video, but for those wondering how it “would do on the street” the answer is buy a different machine if that’s the use case.
All depends on the riding style you use it for. There are many forum entry’s on this and you will see a lot of different answers. Most people are getting 200+ hours out of their top ends with regular oil changes
@@812moto I'm just asking because I'm looking at 2016 that has 106 hours on and have no idea of how hard it was ridden or how well it was taken care of and it has well over 4,000 miles
@@gabrielkopp2036 I would see if they have a full service record on it to start. Ktm recommends oil changes every 10 hours which is what I do. Honestly if the bike runs strong and starts good then you should be fine.
11:00 How is that a pick up test? You were already in third gear by the time you've got on the throttle ! I'm trying to figure out if it's close to the 450 sxf. But you're not giving me a good comparison. I want to know how comparable is the power. And you're not getting on this bike Hard enough for me to be able to tell.... We need a better comparison. Because we need to know if this bike is actually fast or if it's slowest snail shit. Like the 250 klr. Give us a better explanation. Is the bike fast as a 450 sxf Or would it need a few mods? If so, how close is the power and how much would you think it would take to get It to the power of a 450 sxf Will the front end come off the ground and every year? We need a good comparison ???
I don’t have any of those bikes to compare it to. If you pin it in 1-2 and depending on wheee you’re at in the revs in 3rd it stands the wheel up with ease. You can yank it up and power wheelie in 4th after the tune. Look at the drz400 vs 500 exc video I made for a bit of comparison
hi i have same bike 2023 but mine is very jerky in 1st and 2nd gears when off and on the throttle. i dont know why maybe because my rpm idle is set to very low. have you noticed that on your bike?
Mine isn’t too bad. You do have to be gentle on the throttle in low gears. I would check your chain and make sure it is adjusted to factory spec. That may help
@@812moto the thing is if i let go throttle completely then this effect happens.."of throttle compression braking" its kind of dificult to explain for me. dealer told me to increase idle rpms. so i will try that. but my friend has husky501 these bikes has same engine..and tried his bike and it was smooth.
