The unfortunate thing is, magpies are a protected species, so we can't really do anything about nature's air force because of the law, but they actually become really adorable birds if you befriend them.
@@user-mp4nk8uy4f really i have never tried the closest i have been to one is when i was younger i got out of a car to go watch a movie and one swooped right at my face luckily for me i got back in the car immediately before it could do any damage
Magpies are extremely intelligent and sweet birds. They remember your face and will leave you alone if you don’t bother them for the most part, I have never been swooped but it does of course happen if you get too close to their nest. People can bond with them quite eastiky tho Maggie’s, their warble is lovely too! Plovers are the real danger fr
@@averagetectonicplateenjoyer yeah honestly I wouldn’t even dare without some cable ties!! But I do feel like the ones near my house don’t think I’m a threat they are pretty chill
Just go to the annual general meeting at night in August, of the magpies association for" where will we build our nests this year?" Let them.see you. Leave them some treats and tell them you wont harm them. After you attend their free language classes in the month of August. So you can speak their language. I have been swooped many times but have never had a direct hit over 50 years. This report is melodramatic just a yuotuber talking bs to get more ratings.
yes!!!! they make nests at our school on the oval and in our playground. once one of the boys ran out into the oval near the nests to get a ball we kicked and like 100 plovers came charging at us. we had inside play and like couldnt leave our buildings because they would swoop us if we did.
Yes. Mine come and warble outside my window every morning to ask me to put out food for them. They have never swooped me and bring their little ones along.
The only way to stop a magpie swooping you is to become friends with them, If you feed them year round, they will leave you alone in spring but continue to swoop everyone else.
@@YeahTheMitchs Mhm, On the Oval at my school we have something called "Plover Season" It is where the plovers have babies and build a nest in our playing area, They don't know and that's fine but GEEZ- THEY SWOOP A TON! Magpies often leave me alone because I don't touch them or they are flying but yeah- I am afraid that they will actually swoop someone if they don't duck fast enough. Last year they took up HALF THE OVAL- And the best side too! :(
Oh boy you are absolutely right but if you befriend a magpie you won’t get swooped if you feed them you won’t get swooped you’ll be seen as a friend and not a threat so if you just feed a magpie on a constant basis for a few weeks and keep doing it you won’t be swept
What about crows? Down in Perth there are so many! In primary school they were so smart they found out how to unzip our backpacks and take our lunch😭 glad I’m in Highschool now and carry my bag everywhere
They mainly sttack only if you are near a nest or purposely disturb or annoy them. There really is nothing to fear here except Crocs and Tiger Snakes, which you can just avoid by being careful or not being near river or lakes at all.
Birds swoop during nesting season to protect their young from perceived threats. This behavior is instinctual, not malicious. Familiarity with humans can sometimes prevent swooping, as birds may recognize and not feel threatened by known individuals. It’s a natural protective response, not an act of aggression for enjoyment.
As an Australian I have seen a lot of magpies swooping bikers Unlike another bird we have called plovers Magpies actually hit you and don’t fly up at the last second
Mate I’ve an Australian who lived here my whole I’ve never been swooped by an Australian magpie, I feed them all the time , they’re my favourite animal
once when i was little, i went to this park with magpies, and i was standing under a tree. and the magpie pulled me up from the ground by my hair. im okay now.
As a Australian who has witnessed magpie swoops many times (not on me) I can confirm they are scary, they even have an Australian football team named after them (I follow them they are top of the league)
No at school sometimes we have like don’t go out to play bc there is to much magpies and when we have to give like the role(attendance)to the office,we need to bring like FOUR PEOPLE! Well it depends on how many magpies there are
As an Aussie I can confirm that magpies do swoop. This is only because in the tree above they have a nest and if you get to close they find it as a threat. Other then that magpies are amazing intelligent birds and have been know to become great friends if you feed them the appropriate food.
There is a reason why they attack, I’m Aussie and I got attacked by magpies a bunch of times, the reason they attack is because usually during Spring, they lay eggs and they attack because if they see a human getting too close, they try and protect their babies
Used to hate Magpies until started feeding ones coming to yard....once you become friendly with them you realise how awesome bird they are. Their personality's are the best
Magpies are just ordinary birds, but magpies only swoop for a reason. During breeding season, they protect their eggs from predators. So they swoop people on the head in order to protect their babies.
They only take food as an Australian I can tell you that people have magpies as pets my pop had one and yes it was vicious to us kids but that’s only because we annoyed it and they only attack you if you are like you make them feel unsafe or they feel your threat to their babies because they are very protective
Another bird you need to look out for are plovers especially when it’s plover season and they can swoop and peck at you but they are just trying to look after their babies
