Some fantastic rounds in both games here as I eek my way towards that leader board. Really enjoying this series. Subscribe to the channel: / @geowizard
Just to reiterate folks, be nice. Nightey is a cheat, I think is confession/apology is tripe, and I don't think he'll ever be fully welcomed back into the competitive Geoguessr community, but please refrain from posting nasty comments on any videos or forums. He's a human being at the end of the day, and doesn't deserve any further punishment than the termination of his competitive geoguessr career.
If we were talking big events, with awards and/or prizes, I might agree, but on the level gg is currently at, ie. playing for fun, basically, I don't think we should permanently ban someone from something they obviously love and are good at.
@@klax001 I agreed whole heartedly with what you had to say if I remember rightly, I think most of the nastier comments were on his own videos, which he's since turned the comments off for.
@@ciarangale4738 Do you have thousands of people calling you a wanker when/if you're a wanker, though? Do any of the people you know experience that when they're a wanker? I doubt it. It's not a normal situation, nobody deserves to have their mental health potentially fucked because they cheated at a browser game. People do this with footballers/famous people in general. They assume it's okay to hound them if they did something wrong, whilst the people hounding never face any consequences for collectively being dickheads.
I live in Sweden and I don’t even get the correct city while playing the Swedish map😭 And I do move around and zoom etc. so it’s really unbelievable how he got that😳
I call bullshit, It fell apart when he immediately zooms into caseros at 20:58 from nothing as if he knew beforehand where to zoom in..he starts it with it may be a hunch..I am sorry but I am not convinced. Everything on youtube is tailored to get as many clicks as possible these days.
@@IntrusiveApe he literally says he sees a street sign starting with a C. He is lucky yes but instincts also play a role in these kind of things. When you do something over and over again thousands of times, you develop some kind of 6th sense or whatever that you can only explain by calling it luck.
@@catric Ok let's say he did read the sign on the street but how did he know exactly where to zoom in to find caseros on the map? Is he a local? I think not. Luck doesn't exist when you're making a video for hundreds of thousands of viewers on youtube and every one of those views is income.
@@IntrusiveApe his entire channel is focused on geography, and you’re wondering how he knows “exactly where to zoom to find a place on a map” it’s familiarity. Plus you really think he would open his video talking about someone else cheating and how it’s a disgrace, only to be a cheater himself?
@@klikner4142 Starting from 21:10 just watch how he zooms in on 'Caseros' when it isn't even visible from that view. A lot of this guy's material is legit but in this particular instance, he knows exactly where to look not by coincidence. And yes a lot of people who are openly vocal about cheaters end up being cheaters themselves.
@@_coffeebean_ love how there was a court case over an aussie calling a polititian a cunt and it was ruled that it wasnt personally insulting afai remember and he did not face any repercussions over it.
@@horstderheld22 Yeah, you are totally right. I also watched this video on a small mobile device so I saw basically nothing. But the comment was meant as a joke and as a nod to how insanely good Tom is at GeoGuessr :)
@@thany3 i'm on a 1080p 24inch monitor in full screen and even I can tell it resembles a church. The signs however, I can't read. That could be due to him having a nicer monitor and of course like someone mentioned, encoding.
My first thought was: sun on the north, mountains on the east, not too arid, has to be southern chile. Never could i guess it, even for me that im argentinian
fuck why is this the 1 comment that shows up on mobile that you tap to expand comments. accidentally read it when the vid had barely started. fuckin hell
I guess the "if its snowy its in the south" in Sweden is explained by the google street view guys not wanting to travel to north sweden in the winter where it reaches -30 degrees.
His tournaments were the marquee Geoguessr events at the time, a who's who of sorts. Would be like the FA calling one of the Premier league managers a wanker
Person: kidnaps geowizard and brings him to a random country so they don’t get arrested “you get one call to call someone to send me a ransom” Geowizard: “I’ve been kidnapped, looks to be a South American country, maybe Argentina. It appears to be the southern side, probably near the very bottom. Yes I’m goin to say it’s the forest exactly 10km north of the southern tip and 5km west” Police: you were off by 2m. Kidnapper: tf
I’d like to see a series where you put your geoguessr skills against a locals knowledge of a particular country. So for example challenge an Australian who doesn’t play geoguessr to an Australian geoguessr challenge. See what wins out, local knowledge or your excellent geoguessr skills in a particular country.
Im argentinian and the guess on Salta was just insane! You are such a legend, being able to guess te exact location with the sun, a mountain at the back and just one blurry street name its just unreal
Hi, love the channel and love you. Here's a tip from an Israeli: We have the pavement curve painted in red-white and blue-white strips to mark parking availability. Also there were many Israeli flags in that scene. Good luck!
17:00 the olive trees to the left and right, as well as the cypress trees lining the road (more of them in the background) and the red and white pavement are dead giveaways you’re in an israeli village or kibbutz. the greenery also gives away that it’s somewhere in the north (jezreel valley in this case). the ramshackley telephone lines are pretty typical as well. the building is pretty atypical to most israeli rounds since most of the time you’d be set in a city, not a kibbutz, but houses like that one aren’t an uncommon sight in the smaller settlements over here. much to keep in mind!
I thought it was too tropical to be mainland Portugal Madeira is a beautiful place, perhaps you could do a straight line mission there! They have a very unique airport, one of the most dangerous in the world. Named after Cristiano Ronaldo
It would be easier to do a straight line mission across switzerland, tha madeira, the mountains go up to almost 1900m high and are insanly steep like almost vertical in some places because its a very young vulcanic island, there wasnt enough errosion yet to weather them down.
I mean it could maybe be possible from Rirbeira brava to sao vicente, but only for an experienced alpinist with proper rock climbing gear and would still be insanly hard even though its "just" 15km
@@FruitingPlanet Today I just stumbled on this beautiful drone video from Madeira, and I think it says it all. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NcBjx_eyvxc.html
Red and White Curbs can only be found in Tunisia, Israel (and Palestine) and Laos. In this case we see a cypress tree, which is abundant in the Eastern Mediterranean. I think it can be found in northernmost Tunisia but that would be rare.
same.i sat a bit more to think about it and maybe he already sufferend enough. knowing that every body knows u cheated, at least if i was in his shoes (i d never cheat btw) that would kill me inside, then peopel that u might look up to or respect call u wanker... it might depend really; deserves what tom said, depends on how good u can take a punch. as a cheater you should take that in consideration.
The issue is Nighty never would have just come out and said “I’ve been cheating for months and none of you knew it”. He’s only sorry he got caught. He needs to stay away from the competitive community. If it’s a hobby he can keep it. He doesn’t have to be let back into the competitive scene. He’ll surely learn from it and hopefully he doesn’t cheat at anything else in life as a result.
As someone from Argentina, I can't believe that Salta guess. That sign you used as confirmation of where you were literally said "bakery" (which is what panaderia means in Spanish). I would have guessed somewhere in the mid-south by the way it looks.
@@kiiturii If he's cheating he wouldn't need cuts, and giving a line of reasoning isn't proof positive. If we assume he's cheating with his second monitor and then from knowing the answer backexplaining his reasoning his explanations/lack of cuts mean nothing.
@@kiiturii Too many of his videos have logic leaps to get to his answer where he completely misses basic clues or misunderstands words yet arrives at the right conclusion by luck.
@@Sambenmaggie but that wouldn't even work? you need to move your mouse to get to your second monitor and he never takes his mouse off the game, he also plays the game in fullscreen and the fact that he doesn't cut the video means we know he didn't make a link for the game he's in, and how would you explain all the games where there are no signs or anything? you can't google that. And what about his battle royale games? you don't really have time to cheat, you might get to google one place if it's a main city but that's it. There's literally no possible way he could be cheating lol also if he used a second monitor or a phone you could see him look to the side, all his videos have facecam
About the Israel round: These types of houses are very common in the old parts of a kibbutz/moshav (small towns). The red and white rectangle on the side curbs mean “no parking” in Israel, blue and white rectangles mean “Paid parking”, and black and white are for no stopping. The Olive trees indicate that it is the north-ish region of Israel (or West Bank) and the tall tree behind them is very common to find right next to them. Hopefully it might help you and you will get 24000+ next time!
Once hitchhiked from Toronto to Red Deer through there, had they best hitchhiking experience of my life, a guy from the air force drove straight from toronto to winnipeg and took me all the way through the night, once he got tired I got to drive his 300s which was basically in the worst hour of the night in a blizzard.. Also his wiper was not working properly so I had a tiny window to look through. Combined with the massive road trains roaming by with a speed that is beyond all reason it was an amazing experience. That stretch of road is so beautiful I can't even. I love canada so much... The best country for long roadtrips and hitchhiking in the world. Made my trip in 3 days and sometime later I went with a guy all the way from Liard River to Tuktoyaktuk and then to Alaska..
I think the reason for when it’s snowy in Norway/Sweden, it’s south is because if it were snowy and in the north, not google car would want to go then and they would probably wait till summer
Wow that guess at 22 mins... had me on the edge of my seat. Nightey wouldn't have felt that wow moment if he'd just looked up the answer. That's why I love following your channel and enjoy all the different content you produce.
Me and my brother had a great laugh when you said what a wanker as it was so wonderfully British. Also had a great time watching the video on how they caught the guy, so great detective work went on in there. Also shame on people who spam hate on the internet in general. The guy was obviously punished for his actions.
Fair play to you Tom, for your comments. Sadly, many of your viewers still refuse to believe they have gone over the top - thankfully you are a better person than they are.
GeoWizard I've got a question mate! When u had the Montenegro round, you mentioned that it might me countries like Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia( Eastern Bulgaria), but you didnt mention Bulgaria. Why is that? I mean, it might've been to the South of Bulgaria near Turkey close to the Rodopa mountain range.
Tom, have you stopped streaming? I used to love watching your streams. As an unemployed and depressed person, it was a good way to pass hours of a day and not get into bad streams of thought. I'd watch entire 2-3 hours streams of everything from Geoguessr to Sporcle to Worms Armageddon. Even VODs when you weren't live.
I did go and watch the cheating evidence video and I did comment saying I was a GeoWizard sub but I definitely didn't comment anything that would offend anyone. I just said the evidence basically speaks for itself. I also don't think you choice of words was over the top, I think your choice of words is why we enjoy your content so much tbh.
Im watching the video on a mobile phone, so i couldnt have the same level of detail. Not sure how he thought about portugal, but if there was something writen in portuguese, my first though was Madeira actually, it was too tropical
The paint on the curb in the Israel round is a pretty big giveaway. Its usually that pattern of white and red or white and black. There also seemed to be some Israeli flags on the lawn as well as Olive tress on the left side. However, the curb was the first thing I noticed. It's a good thing to keep in mind. There were no typical Israeli buildings because you were not in a major city, but a small town.
17:11 The sidewalk's colour was not bad guess but you literally can't see such vehicle in Turkey. Other than that, the roads would be more fresh in here as well. Just a general information for you to use. Much love!
I played against you yesterday in Battle Royale! I'm not bad at geography but I kinda freaked out, bc I wasn't expecting to play against you, so I lost at round 4 or something like that lol
17:22 in the bottom right, there are a line of Israeli flags (or at least Israeli flag colors) that are kinda hidden in the grass. I wonder why Tom decided to disregard those, or maybe he didn't see them. Fairplay on managing to guess close to Israel tho, I would've been screwed on that round if it weren't for the colors
Hi mate, Was just wondering if you would ever do what field days did when you go to a random “semi deserted” island with nothing but a few essentials and have to build a shelter, eat and drink of what you find or fish. Could be a great few vids
