Another Toxic Flea and Tick Medicine Causing Seizures 

I live in CO -very dry climate. My vet talked me into NOT giving my dog any flea or tick meds. I am so thankful she takes the natural route.

Thank you for putting this out there. I had a 3.5 pound yorkie and 48 hours after dosing him with Revolution he had a grand mal seizure. I was devastated. Took him to a University Hospital after the emergency vet and they argued with me at the time (2012) telling me the flea/tick med would not have caused it. Fast forward to now and here we have proof. I knew in my entire being that it was the cause. 💔My little angel lived to be 16 1/2. After this incident and almost losing him he never had any vaccines nor chemicals such as these. ❤❤❤

My Jack Russells had been on Bravecto from the start and my oldest dog started seizures at 10 months and diagnosed with epilepsy at only 10mths old. She was having up to 30 seizures a day. I read up on the Bravecto and saw the side effects I stopped it and she's 3 yrs old now and has been 10 months seizure free. You are so amazing! I’ve had such a terrible experience with our vet. We have 2 amazing Golden’s with terrible allergies and ear problems. They charge 250-500 each time. The steroids make my cooper pee profusely. The ears clear up after 5 different meds, but return. Never has the vet mentioned food allergies or alternative methods. I tried your green tea and acv rinse and otc fungal cream along with curcumin for inflammation and the next morning saw a huge improvement. You are what a vet should be! It’s sad that vets are forced to choose salary over true care. The system is broken, but you give me hope! I love my 2 babies like my own children(my 2 human babies refer to them as their brother and sister). We aren’t rich so u sir and doing us an immense favor! This video was a Timely God-send - thank you so much Dr. Jones! our dog just exhibited these same neurological symptoms about six weeks ago. we had been to the Vet, and she was scheduled for a CT head scan soon. she has been on SImparica for about six months prior to symptoms occurring, but even before that I realize now that there were subtle signs of change in her behavior. It is very upsetting to know that we had been poisoning our beloved dog all this while and at the same time giving her quality food and care, thinking and trusting that we were doing the best care possible. However, it is a great relief now to realize this root cause - immediately discontinued SImparica and you also saved us from an expensive procedure and putting our dog through it as well. Most Grateful for this channel!

Luke is a border collie mix. Nexguard gave him seizures within 20 minutes of ingesting his first pill. Our vet at the time simply wanted to give him another neurotoxin, so he is no longer our vet.

I stopped using these treatments 3years ago! I use Cedar wood essential oil! 5/6 drops in 10 ml bottle of oil put on back of neck and base of back near tail once a week! My two dog's have never picked up a flea or tick in 3 year's!! Honestly it works and it's non toxic!!

So glad that you talked about this subject. I gave my little miniature dachshund bravecto then I looked it up on line and read all of the bad stuff that has happened to dogs when taking this medication. I was so worried for her after I had given it to her. There is nothing that that can do to reverse the effects of the medication due to the fact that this lasts 12 weeks you cannot get it out of the dog's system it has to wear off. I was so mad I called the vet the next day and ask them why did you recommend this medication when it has such bad reviews. My veterinarian said that it's very rare for your dog to have a bad reaction and they still highly recommend it. I will never give my dog anything like that again, thank God she was okay and did not have any problems with it but the fact that I knew it was in her system worried me terribly. To keep away bugs and fleas and ticks I'm going to get natural oils hey you can buy that is made to spray on your dog on Amazon. Thank you Andrew for getting this information out other pet owners.😘

My Dachshund started with having tremors then he was struggling to walk or stand and in the end seizures. This among other issues all began and finally caused his death within 6 months. Multiple vets, multiple test, thousands of dollars...no one mentioned his flea and tick preventative to be a probable cause. One year later I stumbled upon on of your videos on the matter and looked into it more, after seeing other dogs affected, I finally know the cause to my best friends death.

I gave my 6 yr old shih tzu bravecto one dose. Within a week she was acting as if she was a senior dog. Having trouble going up and down steps. Walked with a stiff gate. Everyone argued with me that it was her age but I knew better. As the stuff wore off she began to be her young happy self. Thank God it wasn't any worse like some of the other stories I've read here and elsewhere. Put her back on comfortis the next spring! Thank you for putting out these informative videos!

This happened to my Japanese Chin, after giving her Bravecto last year. Thankfully she was ok after an emergency trip to the vet. My vet and I reported it to the company that makes Bravecto. They reimbursed the total cost of the after hours emergency vet visit. Super scary!!!! We no longer give our dogs or cats ANY of these toxic treatments.

My dogs have been on Nexgard for the past year along with heartgard, the year before that we used trifexis. So far thankfully we haven't had any issues, I'll be looking for some natural remedies, definitely interested in the Aloe Vera, witch hazel and the essential oils. I certainly don't want my fur babies to have a seizure. The Frenchie group pages I'm on all the time has a Frenchie with seizure disorders, seizures in our dogs are such a common disorder anymore, back when I was a kid, we never heard of such and dogs lived longer. More dogs also develop cancer too😢 Thank you for sharing your holistic remedies!!!

About 8 hours after his monthly dose, he began having head tremors, like his head was bobbing, he was struggling to keep his eyes open, appeared drunk, he then began opening his mouth like he was going to yawn, one after another-but they weren’t yawns. This was all while sitting at the edge of the bed. I scooted down immediately just trying to comfort and calm him. I knew something was very wrong and silently begged for this to end as it seemed like a seizure was only moments away. That luckily didn’t happen and so I eventually picked him up and carried him outside to see if he needed to potty, but he just layed there (it was 2 am) and this was all completely abnormal behavior for him. Once we came in, I eventually got him to lay down and I just slowly pet him to sleep but it was the longest night ever. I slept w 1 eye open, then he puked on the bed a couple of times and slept til noon. He’s back to normal now but, I will never give him Trifexis or anything like it again. At least not monthly. Have you heard this before with this particular drug? I’d been told this was safer than the others.. I’ve found many of your wonderful videos about natural fleas and tick remedies but what to do about heart worm?

I gave my three dogs (2 Poms & 1 Yorkie) a Simparica Chew and within two weeks, my Pom was dead from organ failure after a week of diarrhea & vomiting. My 2nd larger, Pom had diarrhea but seems to be fine and my Yorkie vomited the day after & seemed fine as well until she began having seizures and problems walking within two weeks of the poison pill. She looks like she's drunk when she walks and she stopped going up & down steps. She's extremely wobbly on her feet. I am currently removing the poison from their system with fresh basil & milk thistle added to their food. My Yorkie's balance has improved and she will now go up & down our back steps most of the time. It's too late for my older Pom who died without any prior health issues. BTW: I gave all three of my dogs LESS than the dosage stated on the package......thank God! I can't imagine how bad their reactions would have been if I had followed the manufacturer's dosing directions. Thank you for this video and all of your stories. My 4 year old German Shepherd police dog was just removed from operation due to tremors and ataxia. We went through $6000 worth of tests between our regular vet and at the (highly regarded) vet college. While they did see mild signs of a neurological disease on an MRI, they were very clear that the level of disease in the imagery would not explain the significant physical presentation. Sent us away with pain management and a big 🤷🏻‍♀️. There was a very formal intake process where we reviewed his med history, including flea/tick. Not a WORD about the possible correlation!! They even have the vet STUDENTS groomed to push these meds and ignore their consequences. I’m now requesting for a period of downtime (instead of medical retirement) where we can see if my boy can turn around after getting this poison out of his system.

I don’t use any flea medicine or front line to my dog for years The vet still recommended the flea drugs, I told him to check on you tube . The vet doesn’t care

My rescued dog came with a seizure disorder for which he was heavily medicated. I have since weaned him off of the med since he never had a seizure since his adoption. Has been well over a year, still no seizures. But the vet was dumbfounded that we didn't want any of these chemical flea treatments on our dog?! I can't believe any vet would still try to push them on pet owners especially with this type of medical history. It makes me think that they aren't listening to anything I've said about my dog. Very frustrating. :-(

*The vet I use here, sells Bravecto. He suggested Bravecto for flea problems. I gave it to my sweet pomeranian. Three hours later, dear Lord!! She was vomiting, shaking, & had water/mucous diarrhea! She could barely walk. I honestly thought she was dying. Never again!! Never. I believe the equivalent for us would be to drink 8 oz. of Monsanto Roundup. Seriously. No joke.*

I just wanted to say thankyou. I had an argument with my vet over a year ago when my Japanese Akita was on Bravecto. I told him to go on you tube as there are lots of posts of dogs and cats having fits/seizures etc Anyway he didn't have it so i moved ny boy onto a Seresto collar. My dog just started with seizures at age 5 and she stared with seizures after giving her NexGard for years. And when I stopped the vet made me feel irresponsible and was talked into putting advantage plus and that night she went onto having 9 seizures in a row. I know am only giving her natural oils & supplements and homemade food. And her seizer meds and I'm praying that I'm able to stop her 2 week cycle.

I’ve always been weary of tic flea and heart worm meds, our vet prescribed simpatico trio for my mini dachshund even when mosquitos are dead outside a 4 month period and we live in the city where there is no ticks or fleas. Every time I asked they gave me bs reasons but I always felt like that was the vet’s way of charging us money each month. Heidi now eats a whole foods diet and doesn’t take any meds outside her routine vaccines and she is the healthiest happiest 3 year old mini dachshund

Thanks so much for that warning. I cannot stand these very strong medications that are out on market that are sometimes more dangerous than the actual parasite or disease. But as you said, in extremely serious situations it may be useful. Things like this should be used sparingly. That's what I got out of the video. Thank you so much for your videos. It affected my fur baby with kidney problems. Thankfully I found the Seresto collar was the only thing he could use without any problems.

I live in the Netherlands and yes Simparica caused several seizures in my small Yorkie😭. My vet says she didn’t even know😭!!! I read the AVMA report out loud to her! Never going back there!

I would like to give an update on the flea condition on my dog and cat. First of all, I will never use conventional medicine to treat them. Second, we sprayed Dawn dish soap all over the yard as well. I rather spend all the time and effort needed to help my pets. For instance, I used Dawn dish soap in a more concentrated way and soaked my dog with it yesterday. After she dried, I added a little bit of Diatomeceous earth around her neck, top of her spine and tail area. I can happily tell you I have not found one flea on her today. Yay! My next treatment will be a homemade moisturizer , which I use on myself with essential oils and beeswax. I am really happy with the results! I also thank from the bottom of my heart, those on RU-vid that recommended the use of Dawn. I also thank you Doctor Jones, for the great education on the adverse side effects of the pharmaceutical choices out there.🎉

My fur baby died couple of weeks ago due to neurological seizures, trouble breathing, etc. I strongly believe Bravecto and previously Sentinel had a LOT to do with it. Also all the unnecessary vaccines pumped in her little bod😞 She was the smartest and sweetest Bichon Frise. Her life was cut short at only 9 years old. Soo sad I couldn’t find a kind, compassionate, true animal lover vet like you for my poor Daisy.

One big problem is the Vet wants me to keep my dog on Bravecto or Symparica even though my dog had Ataxia, tremors, panting and extreme bloating . I showed him the video I had taken. I was told to take another video the next time I need to give the next Bravecto. I had been giving this for 1 1/2 yrs to him with no side effects. It took this last pill to know how close my precious pup came to being gone . These meds are like playing Russian Roulette. And the vet can keep his killer over priced poison .

All those topical and chemical stuff scares me. I had a dog die from cancer and I still think it was from the flea meds. I son't trust anything to do with me my animals and this stuff

I know it convenient but I knew as soon as they came out it was bad news! I have to use flea and tick meds because I live in a forest but I give them 15 days apart from their heartworm and always give them milk thistle with it. Add comfortis to the list as my Bichon has just died in my arms this morning during a seizure! I am so heartbroken as my second Bichon who has never had a seizure in his whole life has now had 3 seizures and he will be 17 in 3 weeks! I'm heartbroken as I wish I knew of a detox for dogs to save my last boy. That seizure yesterday was so horrific and he is in so much pain screaming and salivating all over the place. I now remember after the fact that my breeder of my boys said the best preventative is garlic pills!!!!!! I cannot help that I feel that I have killed my boys! I gave them this deadly pill on 8/10/21

Back in 1977, I was working as a groomer. Blockade had just come out. The insert on the bottle said wear gloves when applying. By the end of the summer I had liver damage from using it even though I used gloves. It was pulled shortly after.

I do use Nexguard, but I usually buy the package for a size smaller than my dog actually is. And I only give 1-2 tablets in a year. The first a little before or when the tick season starts with wet, warmer spring weather. My dog was initially on Bravecto, and I stopped using it and observed how long it took for the effect to stop. It was crazy to realize that it was almost a year before the effect disappeared! This observed by a tick biting that died, but did not fall off. I have problems removing the ticks in his fur, and several mishaps where the head of the tick remained in the skin, made me to take the decision to keep using Nexguard, but at a lower dose and rare. Nexguard is not as strong as Bravecto, so Nexguard is supposed to be given 6 to 12 times a year. Bravecto is very strong and they prescribe it to be given 4 times a year.

So I just got Bravecto yesterday because my dog has been itchy and can't figure out what it itching her. I decided to return the Bravecto and bought some shampoo and neem oil.

My poor Berner went through this last summer. He started to seize 5 days after taking the meds. Scared the heck out of me. Thank god for pet insurance! A battery of tests and $8,000 cdn later nothing was found. This year the vet changed his meds and he is doing fine. What an emotional and expensive experience.

Yikes!!! My lab Marley cannot handle Bravecto. My vet was pushing it when it was new. We tried it. Marley got HORRIBLY sick! He kept puking and puking! It was scary. We couldn’t keep food in him. He had to go on a medication to help stop the vomiting. Actually, he ended up on three meds. At the very next vet trip, the vet actually recommended Bravecto yet again!!! I reminded her what happened and her response was “we can give him meds to manage the sickness.” Seriously??? I was so pissed!! Marley is my baby. He could have died from Bravecto and the vet actually suggested we use it again. I don’t use flea meds anymore. I looked up natural remedies and use them instead. My dogs don’t get fleas, so natural remedies work.

My dog had pennant neurological nerve damage after using triflexis. The Vet, still recommend this to other dog owners. I use a flea comb and use it a few times daily.

@Dr Jones, do you think flea and tick meds are necessary in dogs that are not out or in wooded areas?

BioSpot killed my GSP. She had a seizure in early morning and died in my arms. Less than 15 minutes from the time she woke me up. I truly loved and miss my dog.

Hey doc, I use natural supplements like apple cider vinegar and coconut oil in their food. Also, use diluted apple cider vinegar as topical spray as well. Works great for the dogs.

Thank you doctor for sharing this information. I have a dog with long coat that was itchy and was scratching himself all the time. I just wash him with water and then rinse him with diluted cider vinegar. His itch stops for two weeks and so I do this treatment twice a month. I live in hot and humid tropical climate, so dogs here do suffer a lot from skin parasites.

I have three out of five dogs that mysteriously have seisures. They take phenobarbital twice a day. They are different ages and breeds. All were on prescribed flea and tick medicine. I have two new dogs and I will make the natural flea and tick for everyone now!

The vet gave Simparica to my small Japanese spitz which had a seizure yesterday. She's not eating food , only water. Going to see the vet tomorrow if she's not eating again.

What is you take on heart worm pesticides... if flea and tick meds can cause serious side effects and death... I’m sure heart worm meds are the same. What is alternate for mosquitoes as well as fleas and ticks

We had our dog on Bravecto. And then I read how it could cause seizures. I stopped giving her and 2 years later, we were still finding dead ticks. Amazing that drug was still in her system. Now, we just check her daily during tick season. Thankfully we don't have much of a problem with deer ticks but we do find dog/wood ticks on her now and then.

Triflexis almost killed my dog. After several years later, she's still having problems from taking it.

Thank you!! I love that you question things. I have been using a natural flea & tick product by Natural Chemistry. It is made from Cinnamon, mint & lemongrass oils. Works great & smells wonderful!! I'm not sure if they have a product for cats yet.

I bought some flea preventive last year in Nov. it was then on sale. However, I am afraid to use it. Not any of the products mentioned, but the ingredients will be similar for sure. Thank you, Dr. Jones. Very good video.

This is very true, I came across this 8years ago everytime I put this on my staffy 7 days later he started to have seizures, I took him to the vets hesaid he could put him on medication for seizures, I refused , the vet just wanted to make money, next time I applied his flea protection a week later he had another seizure ,didn't take long for me to work out what was causing it ,from that day did not use the products again, after time the vet did admit that it can have this effect on effect on a certain percentage of dogs ,all they want is your money 💰 it's just not right its cruel ☝

My Morkie used Bravecto... it took us 1 year to figure out the connection to her seizures. It's horrifying... I'm pray that now she's off, the seizures will stop.

My dog showing signs of focal seizures: air biting accompanied by chewing and paw licking, cannot settle at night. …. Breathing elevated and racing heart rate…. These symptoms getting worse on the day she gets Bravecto! Stopping it IMMEDIATELY and looking for an alternative before it gets worse.

I used flea and tick meds (nexguard) on my dog for about a year. I never felt right about it and knew how risky it was but we live in a tick and flea infested property. One day I simply couldn't stomach poisoning my dog anymore. I started feeding her garlic and using an Amber collar. She never has any fleas or ticks with these methods! I also feed her Raw which boosts her immunity. (I accidentally stopped feeding her the garlic for about a week and she became a tick magnet. Stay consistent)

When do these effects happen? Are they more at the beginning of the treatment or throughout the treatment time? We live in the back country of TN where ticks are truly prominent including the American dog tick, the long star tick, and the brown dog tick. I've given Bravecto to all 3 of my dogs and so far NO apparent side effects. My biggest concern is that my vet told me I'd need to repeat the treatment every 30 days, not 90 days. Thankfully I did my own research to ensure I knew how it affects both the ticks/fleas so I knew the correct dosage time frame. Thank you for all you do. I really appreciate you and your channel.

I gave my German Shepherd Frontline...... she started having severe seizures at the age of 2. She was then put on Pexion which made her gain weight. She was on Pexion for 4years but I lost her in May this year at the age of 6, her heart just could not take it anymore. I still miss her. I now make it my mission to warn everyone I can about this toxic poison.

I stopped using NexGard in May and my 8 year old hasn't had a seizure in over 20 days. I stopped HeartGard too. My vets response was to prescribe seizure medicine. I refused that too because she didn't have seizures from birth.

I get Comfortis (once a month tablet) from my Vet. Works great for our 3 dogs for several years now.

We took are dog Brutus off the nexguard. He had ALL of the symptoms. He was very sick he is little better. I am shut you saved his life we can not thank you enough

I put garlic powder in my dogs food each morning. All 3 of them love it! Fleas don't like garlic. We are on a farm so tryi ng to keep bugs away .

my cat had a seizure from a neck flea medication and it aged him drastically. he forgets how things work, and is confused a lot. For a while after the seizure he couldn't jump and we had to help him get around. he has a flea collar now but has been changed for life.

I use to use tea tree shampoo on my dogs. My brother put tea tree oil in a spray bottle with water and just misted his dogs to keep fleas off his dogs

I knew my dog was reacting to the K-9 Advantix by the second application. I washed it off, waited until the next month, and switched to another brand.

Returned my unused product. Vet had no idea. I didn't get paid for the education. Plus it cost me $100+ for cat to be seen after treatment produced seizures.

Ticks are a HUGE and dangerous problem. There are pros and cons. I live in one of the top three Lyme disease state in the N.E. USA. Lyme disease & other tick borne illnesses are extremely common in dogs AND humans here. Even though winter temps go down to - 25° F Farenheit ( - 32° C) here and often stay weeks below 0° F we still have a huge problem. Anaplasmosis is also extremely common and is a bacterial infection caused by tick bites. My dogs all get it every single year. Field mice, Chipmunks and Squirrels are host to the seed tick. The 1st life stage of deer ticks are as small as a pencil mark and are extremely difficult to find on a dark-skinned or dark-coated dog. One walk outside (in the country) and you can come back with dozens all over your dogs. These seed ticks transmit Lyme disease and are hard to find until they swell up with a blood meal. ALL of the so-called natural tick remedies are useless. I have tried all of them. If you walk by a tick that needs blood NOTHING is going to repel it. Unless you drench your clothes, socks and shoes in Pyrethrum regularly, the tick WILL attach itself to you. There Is NOTHING you can put on a dog that will stop a tick crawling onto it if you pass within reach of the tick. Ingesting garlic is a joke and herbal repellants and sprays are useless.

My dog almost died last week after giving him Trifexis. For 4 days he couldn’t walk or get out of his bed. He’s a 6 lb. Cavapoo. We finally decided he was dying and called Lap of Love to our house to put him down. When the vet came, he perked up a little and she suggested we give him 24 hours to improve. Miraculously he got better. I will NEVER use these kind of flea medications again. Google said that one dog dies every 36 hours on Trifexis. It should be taken off the market.

I put topical cream Asvantix 2 on my 2 year old husky and he had 3 seizures!

Just keep the camera/lens in manual focus and it won't jump around like that.

My dog had some kind of tremors after a Lyme vaccine so I refused any after that. Why do they suggest a vaccine AND tell you to give them Frederic once a month?! I did get Lyme disease a couple years ago and got treatment and the docs use that to scare me saying I should at least do credelio. So confusing and disturbing. Thanks for these videos. ❤️
