I watched your reaction to Home Free doing "Elvira." I was definitely impressed by them. I'm also impressed with you, that you went further to check out the original musicians and gave them the respect they deserve.
Elvira was also known as the mistress of night. She was very famous around the time this song came out. Those are real instruments but they can also do the harmonies of accapella
This song was originally written by Dallas Frazier, It was written about a Street in East Nashville but some assume it is about Elvira - The Mistress of Darkness.
My mom got my cowboy hat signed by the long bearded guy when I was a kid. They performed at a local country music festival we had near where I live. Out in the middle of nowhere. Happens every year and features lots of artists over like 3 or 4 days.
I have a very fond memory of this song, was working in a factory and this song came on a radio station, every assembly line in that area tuned into that station and it was like a wave, you heard it from one end of that department to the other. After it was over, radios got turned down and went back to whatever they were listening to before.
The Oak Ridge Boys has been a group since 1947 and the current line-up has been together since the '70s with a few years where the baritone with the beard was switched out during the '80s with another singer. Their accompaniment is The Mighty Oaks Band. These guys are in their 70's and 80's and still touring. In fact, I saw them in concert a couple of years ago.
Oh man you brought some happy memories to me. This was a song my Dad would sing alot. He had that very deep voice and matched the one in this song. Loved this!!!!
I just watched this song being done by the Oak Ridge Boys and Home Free (a group of 4 acapella singers & a beat boxer. The Oak Ridge Boys are in their 70’s now and they still got it! They were keeping up with the youngsters 😂
@@walkofnails2923 Check out O Holy Night, Thats one where Adam sings and guilty pleasures, with well over 200 songs, some original it took me time to catch up.
Thank you so much for listening to the original, it makes a difference. I grew up listening to the Oak Ridge Boys. I LOVE home free and both together can't be put into words! Most reactors never bothered to listen to the original, you are tops in my book!
The Oak Ridge Boys and also the Statler Brothers were both 4-part all male harmony country groups. Home Free did a tribute song when Harold Reid of the Statler Brothers passed on, a cover of their song called Flowers on the Wall. Home Free didn't set out to be a country a cappella group but they have embraced several members country music roots and also pay tribute to the all male country groups who came before them.
wonderful. I have always been a Big - Oak Ridge Boys fan. Another group I like is - Alabama. Both groups have always been great performers. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Glad you are checking out this great country band. You did the collaboration with Home Free for this song "Elvira". So now you can see how it was originally done. It is done at a slower pace. The Oak Ridge Boys had a lot of hits. Check out their fun song called "Bobbie Sue".
Richard Sterban has a great bass voice! Another excellent Home Free collaboration with a country legend is Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers - really cool vibe.
I loved hearing this as a kid. My aunt would play me the album. Also Dr hook, their crazy songs are the best. Penicillin penny and freakin at the freakers ball. They are so fun
It may not have been about Elvira Mistress of the Dark. But i promis you at the time most all red blooded males thought of her when this song played. 😂😂
Any band that uses "instruments" is not an Acapella band but they can harmonize like you hear with the Oak Ridge Boys. A true Acapella group uses "no instruments." Nice way to go back and see the origins of the original group and the song, Greg.
I am glad you checked these guys out. They have many hits. I'd like to see your reaction to, Baby's Gotta Rock It ....by The Tractors. I really, really think you'll like it.
Hope all is good Greg try "Stevie Ray Vaughan"Life Without You " at the Capital Theater this guy had the best concert around he will blow you away. Trust me you will love this one. "SEMPER FI"DEVILDOG
if there are instruments its not a Cappella. they sing to music. a cappella is all vocals and no instruments at all. this supposedly was inspired by the name of a street in Tennessee.
Alright Greg, I been watching you since Bugzy M.E.N, you picked up the bars and had your head bopping. I wanna recommend potter Payper - Filthy Free/PMW. Please give it a listen and react! Would love to see your reaction you like storys when people rap, here ya go!
Sounds kind of thin without Home Free. What I want to know is whether you can tell who's who in these pics after seeing them as older men. I was about 14 when this song was hot. I'm 70 now. These guys were so generous to Home Free, passing the baton to a younger generation of 'country' singers (even though Home Free isn't just country. Actually, this song played on the pop radio stations when it was new, so I guess The Oak Ridge Boys crossed over too.
