Building a virtual pinball... I dreamed of doing this for years.
A summary of how I did it.
00:00 Intro
03:17 The journey begins (how I did it)
26:24 Playtime (working machine)
Nb. If I did this again, I would go with 3 regular pinball solenoids rather than 8 ford starter motors. Less wiring and a better result
*** This is a personal fan based Avengers: Infinity War virtual pinball cabinet concept, based on the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ movie.

As someone who has built one of these the way you did step by step I really appreciated your process. I did source out the custom lockdown bar and bought a ready trim kit from that first site you showed in the video. I also bought all my boards from that second site you showed. After watching your process I think I saved some time but your way may have been cheaper. I have a CNC so I made my own custom box. I would recommend people to forget the real DMD. I went with a used 4by3 17” lcd monitor. Works great and takes advantage of all the new colour DMD files available now. Your back box is a little higher in height but you can also use topper effects in conjunction with your DMD (which is quite nice). For people reading these comments you really can make one of these machines and put it together yourself. There are tons of resources out there. Great job my friend and I like your graphics you made. My biggest regret. If I had my project to do over again I would either go with a standard pinball box with a 40” screen size. Or a wide body pinball box with a 43” screen size. Custom lockdown bar is unnecessary. I would rather have a tv play field that lifts up and down with a custom bezel and hinging system. Reason being I have had to take my tv in and out of my machine hundreds of times to make modifications adding more toys and I have broke my tv more than once.

Vance Mathison Thanks man... and great advice. Only thing I would add is 40” screens are becoming harder to get (in Australia anyway).

I'm usually a purist for pinball and want a real machine. But the skills keeping one up is really beyond me. I don't know a thing about electronics and how to maintain them. But I do see why VR Pinball machines are becoming more popular. And with the prices of pinball machines going up and up. I think VR pinball machines would be a better option. I do like the arcade 1up attack from Mars. Definitely considering buying one. But the big ones like yours I don't know who would sell them locally.
@funtyes1970

you cant buy good virtual pinball machines locally that why you have internet and order one . i think company's from Australia makes best virtual pinball machines you can buy . like a company as Xtreme Gaming Cabinets . tell you the truth i think this virtual pinball machine is as good as Xtreme Gaming Cabinets this guy did a really good job . and to buy a really good plug and play virtual pinball machine you be spending like $7k to $9k USD . like Xtreme Gaming Cabinets if you order a pinball machine from them there like a 8 to 10 months waiting list.

gurtana Hehe. It’s not that hard once you get rolling. If you really struggle, forget the DIY route and purchase a plug and play kit. If you get stuck with that, people in the forums are super helpful. It’s the best thing I’ve built to date and I’d say I play it more than my real pinball these days... you can do it!

Beautiful machine! I’m in the process of building one of my own and I have purchased the same side rails as you. Mine is also a custom sized cabinet and I also have to cut down my side rails. May I ask what you used to cut them with?
@zimbakin
@zimbakin 4 года назад
Rybot Hybrid Gaming I used a haxsaw. They’re only aluminium, so easy to cut. Put some tape on it before you cut to minimise the burring. The rough end is concealed by the backbox hinge, so it’s not visible.

Great video. I'm just getting into pinup popper. It's a bit complicated but once you go through all the tutorials and trial and error, it's not too bad and is freaking awesome BTW. Can you tell me how you came up with your own custom DMD? I'm currently working to build my own cabinet
@zimbakin
@zimbakin 5 лет назад
It’s actually quite easy. Create a greyscale image at 128 x 32 pixels (yes it’s very small). Then replace the DMD default in pinup system. eg. For visual pinball X, the file goes in PunUpSystem/POPMedia/VisualPinball X/DMD/default.png I did the same for FX3 and some of the playlists (retro, music etc.) I found PinUpSystem (Popper) complicated at first also, but once you get into it, it’s actually a great piece of software and makes adding games a breeze.

Mate, it's so funny that you can tell an Australian house even before we open our mouth :) So I have a question, what software other than the front end do you have installed? I have 90% of my mini completed but am totally stuck on getting the software together and it to look good and boot into a decent front end.
@zimbakin

Haha, pay no attention to my messy play room. I run both VPX and Pinball FX3. Pinball FX3 runs through steam, costs money and a little bit more tricky to get running with DMDs, so start with VPX and focus on getting that going first. All the faithful table recreations run on VPX anyway. I didn’t worry about future pinball or VP9 etc. because the VPX tables look and run better in my opinion. Run the VPX all-in-one installer from VPForums.com. It will install everything you require including B2S for the backglass if you have a second monitor. I also run Freezy 1.7.1 to get the real DMD working (ignore this if you don’t run a real DMD). Get VPX setup and running with a few tables installed before attempting to get a front-end going. It makes the process much easier. Only when you have VPX up and running, then add a front end of your choice. Trust me, it’s easier as the front end can complicate things. I’m using Pinup System from vpinball.com It looks amazing and you can run PUP Packs for video backglass functionality. Eg. My Top Gun table’s interactive backglass over at vpinball.com will only work with pinup system. The only downside is it has a slightly steeper learning curve to install and get your head around, however worth the effort. It all comes down to personal taste re. Front-ends, so no right or wrong here. If you get stuck, head over to either one of the sites mentioned above and the community are super helpful in the forums. Good luck mate.

did you consider doing a 'mini' build first? guess it depends on if someone even has the footprint for a full build however awesome it is. :)

You can scale down to as small as what will fit a computer with a GPU (or a laptop. Allow space for ventilation and cooling). Yes, space is an issue and this is definitely a feature item. One of the reasons I procrastinated for so long. My goal was to make it as real and authentic as possible. If you have space, do it!

WHY? Can any one enlighten me please. Why tilt the screen in completely the opposite and wrong direction? Surely if you aren't having your screen lay flat, you'd tilt it so it's high at the back! Great build by the way, very jealous! Genuinely can't fathom the screen position though. Edit: Oh wait, my bad, the screen is flat, it looks tilted wrong early on in the video. Stand down.

I see so many youtubers who built their own virtual pins and they look fantastic, meanwhile the producers can't make anything right. Why don't you produce this and sell it. Is it legal to get that many tables in there or do you have to know how to download and install? im a technical mess.

Hi John, I didn't cover cost in my video... good point, I should do an update / caveat. Yes, it is an expensive build if you don't have existing monitor/TV or computer plus relevant parts. From memory, my build was around 4k AUD at the time. However, I had the PC and graphics card already. I did purchase a 4k TV, so I'd say around 5k AUD is pretty accurate after parts etc. ... I hadn't realised how much I'd spent until after the fact. That being said, it's a pretty cool toy. Share your build on Vpinball if you haven't already, I'd like to see it. Cheers.

@@AdamAnalytical I bought mine second hand it's a rec room World table, their first generation they put out about a year ago and we're selling for around 7800, with an added like 50 games, so I've got about 350 total, kind of wish I would have went with the creative arcades out of California, as the graphic cards better, they have a tilt Bob and a knocker, and a 3-year warranty. He was not sure what graphic card it was but it ended up being the 640 TI, he was buying another game from the rec room cellar, so the rec room guy gave me only a one year warranty with it. I'm not getting 60 frames per second even though I have a 4k monitor. I went with this used machine because it had fun house on it and the creative arcades didn't But besides that I'm pretty happy with the set-up, it's smooth play, recreates each table as I remember it. And some fun FX 3 games

most good pinball machine going for $7k to $9k in USD if you paid $5400 in USD I'm sure it low grade parts you have in that pinball machine . cuz to build a very good virtual pinball machine with all bells and whistles you spending cost to $4k to$5k just in parts . a good ROG 4K 120 Hz monitor is like $1200 to $1500 alone and you paying $5400 is unbelievable to me
