In this video we do a complete restoration of an early 1900's figural clock by the Ansonia Clock Company. The rebushing and pivot polishing methods I use in this video can be implemented on any timepiece. #horology

G’day Mark and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 I love the old movements on clocks I have two Hemel clocks, I started a course in repairing clocks and the casings. The problem that I found was getting any clocks to repair I dismantled two old manual clocks that I dismantled and I was to put them back together a few so I got the parts in my head so I could put them back wear they came out of the case. I love the way you articulate what you are doing very well and it makes it a pleasure to watch. I have subscribed and look forward to watching you kind regards John

This is the first clock video I've ever watched. I know absolutely nothing about them, but found this very interesting. My only question so far is how the "cleaner" works. The parts were dirty and then, BAM, all clean. XD

I use an ultrasonic cleaner with an ammonia based cleaning solution.

Lovely video of clock bushing, really enjoyed watching this. Brings back memories of my Dad doing this on worn Grandfather clock movements. Sadly he's gone now, but I have all his tools & broaches & am passionate about clocks. I have some interesting ones including a Rombach & Haas singing bird clock, with two stage organ type bellow for constant air flow to provide the acoustic modulation for the bird song. The movement requires an arbor to be turned. I have a lathe stand & many lathe tools, but no lathe to go with it as yet!. My Dad built this stand for me, bless him :) . Thanks for posting this.

Great video! Can't wait for the cuckoo Quail. I am learning Cuckoo repair. I am working on a three wheel musical cuckoo.

Excellent video - especially helpful is seeing how you polish pivots with a dremel tool. I'm wondering why you don't lubricate main springs when they are off the main wheels - isn't it easier to lube the spring when it is totally unwound?. I'm looking forward to your cuckoo quail video because I have one that dates from about 1905 that I am going to overhaul at some point.

Thanks Paul. The desk where the mainspring winder is has dust from the polishing wheels. My shop is too small to spread out my tools further apart. I’m sure some of that would stick to the freshly lubricated springs. I find the oil finds it’s way into the spring coils through capillary action. You can let the springs down without the clamps to get better access to the coils if you want.

How do you handle groves on strip pallet faces which were worn there by escape wheel?. Also several of these I have seen have need for mainspring arbors bushing. Plates are so thin do you solder or epoxy them in?

I use the same polishing wheels I use for pivot polishing. The ones worn down to a smaller diameter work good for that purpose. I do not solder and definitely do not epoxy. You can use a course file. Roll it against the outside of the bushing to produce a knurl pattern. This gives the bushing all the extra bite it needs to stay put.
