@@waltervondervogelweide4638 youre right, but i was talking about the specific question that was asked in the video, "are you a lesbian". we're talking about two different things, but that one is heavily intrusive lol
Liz, we have a 50 year old Medicine Student in the College of Medicine. This era LIFE LONG LEARNING is the norm. Experience it soon ... in Medical Ethics it is not always Medicine as life and death.
The actor Peter Wingfield who played Methos in Highlander at the age of 18 had all the grades to go to medical school but decided against it because he fell in love with the acting bug. In 2011 he began reducing his roles in acting and in 2015 at the age of 52, he went back to medical school, graduated, and now works as a doctor. So, I will agree with you that age is not a factor.
@@abbysands9510 I agree, the truth of the matter is people are changing their careers if they are no longer happy; gone are the days when you had to work in one career or in the same company until you retired. Nowadays people are changing careers or changing companies. I know a guy who changed their career from a software Engineer to a journalist, and I have also read about a woman who worked in customer service who took up a Bootcamp course in web development and now works as a web developer, I have also seen videos of people who gave up a 250,000 dollar salary at Google to work on full time on their youtube videos. It is never too late to reinvent yourself no matter what age you are. Ps The best people are lifelong learners
@@cainabel2009 Agreed, don't know if you have heard of Dr. Angela Yu she got her degree in medicine and worked as a doctor for many years in NHS, after many years she realized her passion lies elsewhere within the field of coding, so she left medicine, thought herself to code and started our own company called the London App Brewery where she is the lead developer, she also trains hundreds of thousands of students and even has a Udemy course.
As a 31 soon to be 32 year old woman in grad school, I think it’s pretty absurd that society expects young ppl to pursue higher education at such a young age (early to mid 20s) Due to the lack of life experience and maturity level, I just believe that as you get older, you’re naturally more focused and disciplined, I just can’t imagine how difficult it is to be disciplined in the same way that a 30 something or 40 something would be in college in general!
Oh my goodness - THANK YOU. I've been stressing about this for a while now. I started (community) college fresh out of high school, all while taking care of my mother being her caretaker as well. Because of being overwhelmed, I eventually had to drop out. Finding jobs here and there in between, I'm now 29 wanting to go back to school and have been feeling ashamed of being older now.
@@HoneyPastry don’t feel ashamed. I was shamed by some but the truth is that tons of people go back even into their late 40s and 50s. Life happens and college is pushed back ten or more years. If you desire a higher level of education, get it and feel proud doing it. Not everyone is fortunate enough to go to school for whatever reason, and I sincerely believe that “older” students make the best students! And I say “older” because let’s face it, 20 and 30 year olds are still young! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Academiacaramelcurlz Thank you SO much. Very good points, blessings!

@@HoneyPastry as 37 I remember thinking that way and now again I think that way, wishing I hadn't think that way back then so I wouldn't think that way : D But at 31 I was also caretaking dad for 5 years. Ouf. So now I don't know who I am anymore. At least taking language classes of the country I am half of made me realize how hard school is for me. So maybe I wouldn't have finished, again. At the same time now I wish I had the chances. But it's getting awkwarder.
I used to worry about age factor when I decide to return to school. On average, I am 7 years older than my fellow classmates. I would say that there is a gap but with the experiences I carry, I just dismiss anything I don't like and I do feel more free when I do that. I can be hard at first but you will find those who will be on the same energy level with you and it will be worth the wait.
I returned to higher learning at the age of 47, with professors younger and less worldly attempting to introduce knowledge to the teenagers and twenty-somethings that I shared the room with. I think being the mature one in the classroom improved the situation because we bring an element of calm into it. The fact that we have experienced more and have overcome the immaturity and impetuousness of youth lends a certain gravity and depth to our presence in the room. It can have a subtle effect because we don't find it necessary to 'show off'. Sometimes it even influences the behavior of younger students.
Such a wholesome video! You forgot that we are friends cos we are the only ones who find each other funny 😂 this was too emosh for me but thank you! Love you lots ❤️❤️❤️
I’m a few minutes into this, but I’m LOVING this honest sit-down chat, Liz! Love the painting corner, and to see the incredible completed painting from Feelosophy. I just relate with so many of your experiences - just keep on doing what you’re doing, wishing you all the best! 😊
I'm 26 now and I'm currently in my second year of med school here in Brazil (it takes us 6 years here). The age gap also has an effect on my relationships with my classmates, but it kind of helps learning to deal with different people from different backgrounds.
I'm happy when i read all these comments because it makes me feel less ''weird', I've started study again 2 years ago when I was 26 years, I could felt the age gap but also i've struggled learning in other language (french) so not easy at all, but now I'm doing my internship and I think that starting agains was the best idea ever!
Hiii Elizabeth, first of all you are my inspiration. Secondly it was me who asked the "does your age matter" question. So when this question was asked i was 20 and now I'm going to start med school at 22 because of some unavoidable circumstances. But whenever i feel slightly insecure i come back to this video and that particular part where you addressed my question. Makes me feel better and if everything goes well i hopefully will start med school in 2024❤ Thank you for being so kind P.s. this was the first time a youtuber replied to me 😅
happy new year Elizabeth ! i've listened from the beginning until the end & i love the way that you answer the questions & your authenticity. i also want to add that i am so glad that i found your channel last year because i really do love your content & the way that you think / perspective :)
Wow! I feel so connected to you in so many different levels however I’ve found you just a couple of weeks ago. That feeling when you express things what I feel but I can’t articulate in words and you do, and you do that perfectly; is a priceless feeling. And when you said your favourite video game is Ratchet & Clank then BOOM! I was very pleasantly shocked because it is my favourite game as well. I feel less lonely now that I’ve found your channel. :) - a fellow introvert
I can totally relate when you told that you do prioritize and complete the work that you intuitively remember. That sheds a whole lot of stress, if there's a good amount of buffer time left before the deadline. Anyways in such cases luck plays a huge role, and that's why I like your ideas on the correlation between luck and efforts too which you talked about during the first few minutes of the content. Great video, relatable answers. Thanks a lot. I'd love to meet you someday! :)
Your one of very few RU-vidrs I’ll sit down to and watch videos like this. I find I relate so much to a lot of your mindsets etc and I find it really refreshing 😅 Your comments about insecurities had me hanging in every word. Your answer to being an older student was super relatable. You being motivated and excited easily had me smiling at how similarly I feel 😄 And more broadly when you were talking about market research as a creator I was almost literally bouncing with my hand up in my chair shouting “ooo that me!” 🤣 Already done so much brainstorming on things like that for this channel, hopefully to action throughout 2022. Looking forward to more videos from you as the year progresses! 🙌🏼
Elizabeth, luck has led me to find your videos, and I'm so happy it has. It's heartwarming to see someone else whose brain works very similarly to my own. You given great advice, given me new ideas to help better myself, and know that I'm not totally insane; even more so, you help me help others. As a teacher, you gave me knowledge to support and encourage my students to improve themselves. I wanted to let you know this because I hope you can continue to post more and spread your ideas to others. You truly have a gift of wealth of wisdom and understanding. Keep up the good work.
I love that you're always so genuine :) feel like this is such an interesting video to film because obviously you really have to feel confident and comfortable in yourself to provide wholesome answers!
Love your authenticity and the rich content. One minute I'm thinking gosh you are so intelligent, life must be so easy for you and then you share how you are alone in a room, talking to a camera. You are both inspirational and relatable. Cheers.
I had so many aha moments in this video, you really have an apt way of communicating your thoughts - but when you said “I’ve been with Elizabeth long enough to know she’ll be alright” - that was a home run. Really enjoyed this video.
Pondering cloths - and simplicity; I wear black socks, t-shirts, etc., and more - when I replace any of these, I seek out the most comfortable brand and replace them all so I do not bother to think twice about 'matching' socks, etc. I cannot begin to explain how such little things eat away time and mental focus...pondering time wasted times decades. Within that foundation - I can then do/be any context of presentation I am inspired, or just keep a simple 'uniform' of sorts of both comfort and function. (I'm feeling really nerdy as I write this.) Anyway, best regards. Love your content, as I see - over half a billion others+ do too. (Just noticed).
Weird. I get kinda stressed out from her speed talking. I watch it at 0,75x speed instead 😅 Not a criticism, just curious you find it relaxing. I just adapt BTW, I don't think she should change 😊
Thank you, I have a new perspective regarding thèmes that you talked about. It's so fresh. I love you channel and this 2022 I'll continue keep watching your videos. Good luck with your goals!
You are an angel. Reminds me of someone I care about deeply. Thank you very much for opening up to very interesting questions. I believe you are great at communicating. Sending ❤ and light to you.
5:52 I love this answer! You get so many "how to" influencers express how serious and strict you have to be to be successful as a content creator on RU-vid, yet here is someone with a highly successful channel that does it purely on passion and creativity.
I love the q&a!!! This is such a powerful get to know you! Just found your channel and feel super empowered by seeing you share your voice. Suffering with imposter syndrome myself and totally frozen.
I don't really know what to say.. but I still got a lot from this video :) It's nice knowing that I am not alone in feeling "old" or overly self-critical because it gets the best of me more than I would like to admit. For instance I am currently in my last year of high school, and it just feels like a draaagggg. I see the same people often and I want to try being friends with them but it just feels so unnatural for me to do it, because it is "too late", I don't want to get too attached to anyone and then like cry when I graduate because I won't be there next year, and I am not good enough, or they aren't good enough for me in terms of what little I know and see of them. I think I also feel rather embarrassed to have very specific thoughts and feelings that are tangled over each other so I cope with it by knowing what I do like, and what's comfortable: self-learning and spending time with myself. A part of me even wants school to be online so that I can go back to what was familiar and more comfortable during the lockdown, because that was when I really discovered myself and hit a peak (but also rock bottom) in my life. I do still want to do things OTHER than work and studying, but so far, I don't want to do it right now, and I think that is completely okay. It's hard for me to live my ideal life right now because of how squished it all feels, in terms of time and commitment. I already get hours of sleep on the weekdays, and it's hard for me to fully commit to being more social and doing things outside my comfort zone because of COVID and my mental health. It was just so comforting to me to hear that age doesn't really matter, at least not for you, in med. school as it didn't really hinder your ability or chance of making friends. I am not planning to work in the medical field or go to med. school, but I'm still going to uni soon and it is nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time, the way I am anticipating it rn. I think I will have a good year, and to be a little clairvoyant, an even better one next year as I will be in a new environment and circumstance that is more in favor of my personality, values, and strengths. The only issue right now is motivation, as I do not feel a reason to get A's or even B's in my classes, even though I have been a straight A student from elementary to junior year of high school. I need my GPA to be a specific number for an Honors application I'm filling out for a college, and I can't get below a C as it'll result in automatic rejection, literally, but I don't think I will get that low. I still want it to end so I can move on, but I must be patient.
Thank you Elizabeth for your candor this video sets the mood … the exchange of ideas, personal thoughts with the undertone of relaxing music is a winning combination. I think everyone who’s made it to the end of your video is on the same journey for personal growth. Do you belong to any book clubs? It would be fun to read what you’re reading. Well I’m off to Zzzz again 2:47 am another day awaits to be discovered and the possibilities are endless !
Thank You Elisabeth♥️ Your system of beliefs is very interesting and I love to watch Your videos😊 So good to see You looking happy and healthy. Hugs from Poland✨
Being a little older and having life experience yet not being so old that you cannot be flexible, accept guidance and learn means you will likely find your early years as a working Dr and student Dr more comfortable in clinical engagements. There is a lot of social licence you will gain with patients who will intrinsically trust you because you are older and likely have more "adult" communication than your younger peers.
Loved this video! The style and location is so lovely too. You answered my question!! 🤩 I got so excited! Thank you! ❤️ Very much looking forward to all your videos for this year, you’re my favourite RU-vidr.
🙂Made it to the end and I'm proud of you. Thank you for sharing. I don't believe in bucket lists either. I also do CBT. I started wearing mostly black last year & prefer it because prevents decision anxiety, it is slimming/flattering/looks smart, washes and wears well - any new clothes I bought last year were all black - Have a great year and I like your outlook and attitude - all the best for returning to medical school in august 🙂
What a charming individual, do not let this world in any way corrupt you. One day you will find this one special (probably Sigma INFJ male) and you will create beautiful relationship. Take your time. You are a true gift to this world. Kind regards from Poland.
I'll be 26 in a month. I'm 3 years into mathematics considering switching to medicine. I definitely feel pressure and that in the eyes of society, such a switch would be a set back in some sense. I obviously agree with all comments below that it's an absurd notion that you're expected to pursue higher education before you're even 20 (say). Anyway I thought as my contribution to the discussion I'd add that, in Sweden at least, my perception is that it's a bit more socially accepted to pursue higher education at an older age here than it is in e.g. the UK or the USA. Especially with medical school which a lot of people struggle to get into
Love your painting corner and your painting is stunning! You sitting with folded legs is such a vibe. Some of these questions are WILD! 😂 Enjoyed this very much, Liz. Thanks for answering these questions 🙂
Another question: how do you balance out everything? You mentioned you're a medical student, work full time, socialize and have time to read, which is amazing don't get me wrong, I just feel for me it would be so overwhelming so that's why I'm asking :')
@@SannaJankarin I knew a person like E.Filips and they were exactly that way - they sometimes missed classes and were quite tired often. Not that I'm judging, I can only objectively say that they sounded drained.
I’m new here but it’s pretty obvious to me that she’s an intellectual outlier. We’re talking the edges of the bell curve here, like 140-160 IQ range. She probably has some kind of photographic memory. Who the hell boosts their motivation for a school essay by reading three books on the topic? Only someone who can eat information like an AI. Don’t know how helpful that was, lol. This just seems to be the elephant in the room. There seems to be this implication that her viewers can imitate her lifestyle, if you could call it that. No, we can’t. It’s a fantasy for most of us.
Maybe you could answer if you do a Q&A for 2023, have you decided on your medical speciality yet? Has the field you think you'll specialise in changed while you've been studying?
People really worry way more about age gaps affecting your ability to make friends when it's honestly not weird to be friends with all different people of all ages. My aunt and I are friends, and she's like 21 years older than I am. Likewise, I'm friends with my youngest sister who's 10 years younger than I am. The fact that they're family only plays a role in that there was already a relationship there to foster, but there's no reason you can't make friends with someone significantly older or younger than you whether you're related in any way or not. The main thing is some kind of common interest and/or common beliefs. :)
Idk if this is a weird comment for you but I think people (or girls) are asking about your sexual orientation coz you're rly pretty and the fact that you not only look like you have your life together but are also brutally honest about the things you're going through and your viewpoint of the world is hella attractive (yep Im bi so I hafta admit I've been really curious about that question loll)
Glad I discovered your videos, especially on learning how to learn. As I watched I realized some of what you do are the same things I do when I study a subject for pleasure. I'm an RN working on my BSN/Master's/FNP and taking A&P II right now :) thank you for all you do!! ❤️
Everytime I watch one of her videos I check to see if I have the high speed on. Yes, I'm a foreigner. Salute from Brazil, Elizabeth! I really like your channel (:
I do not love your rambling on...I do however absolutely adore it! My thoughts halfway through: The real problem w/ modern Individuation is in the name of self-identity we defy our own instincts, our intuition, and lie to our own senses. How reasonable. I enjoy your poses!
I always wanted to be the one to comment first after watching it, today I saw the notification but was busy and now just finished it and commenting... you vides are so good just love to watch them, the vibes..... gives a feeling of... get to work now and harder..... just want to see life from a relaxed and different perspective.... was waiting long for your video.... finally... ❤❤❤...
Would you be interested in making a video on some key quotes/ideas/philosophies/approaches/practices that resonate with you (at the moment or once in the past but not anymore, etc)?
Wow! I had absolutely no idea that you were a mature student when you started Med. That's alleviated some of my concerns about starting older now, so thank you 😊 Also can I ask does it make a difference if you're in the 4 year course vs 5 year course?
What would you say are some good alternatives to daily journalling?I too personally can't stick to daily habits but I'm trying to find a way to put my thoughts down and be mentally more free.
Thank you very much for this video! It was really interesting to watch and helpful in a way, makes me rethink some things when I'm trying to answer those questions to myself👍😊

Interesting comment - making the leap between hiding a sexual standpoint and that meaning that you are against it or another sexual standpoint. Lots of people hide their sexuality without having any prejudice to others sexuality.
i think you could pull off "old rose" pink quite well. But indeed, it is much softer than the "harsh black" you are used too. i think you can still wear a soft "old rose" and still be your badass self. ;-)
