Regarding the kid question: there’s always foster care and/or adoption!! This solves the issue of eco/sustainability and not wanting to bring another person into this world, as well as the need to be a mother! There are so many kids of all ages that need homes and families. It can be expensive and emotional, but so can pregnancy and birthing
Adoption is a great option! Or to get your kid fix, teach kids or otherwise work with kids or become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster kids). That way you can "borrow" them for a bit and have fun with them, inspire them, and then their parents deal with the yuckier parts ;-)
I got my fiancé to switch to bars because I stopped buying bottles. I am the shopper in the household. He has not been so willing when it comes to deodorant. Lol
My husband's bottle of shampoo got too old and started to separate (I told him not to get the giant one, he has almost no hair) so he grabbed the kids' shampoo bar one day and has been using that since. I'm still waiting for my bottled shampoo to run out so I can switch. I only wash about twice a week so it's gonna take a while.

I don’t think that bringing more people into the world is necessarily a bad thing... especially ones who are raised to cherish, respect, and fight for our earth. Children are the future and we need people who care about the earth to raise children who also care and help fight climate change. Just my two cents!
You're right. It's not necessarily wrong. It's just being responsible like everything else in life. It's about balance like everything else. Some can adopt, some can birth, and some can both.
@kayla yaremko Great options but the goal of foster care is to reunite children with their biological parents if possible so it doesn't guarantee you end up with the child forever.
I always had the same thought on having kids - for me it was like an ethical dilemma But then my cousin had 3 kids, and I thought: How come I'm the one who has to be the most ethical? Why is the fate of the world resting on my shoulders when there are families with 20+ kids who are doing more harm than I would be with just one? IDK man, its just unfair having all this knowledge sometimes
Holly Alice - That is something I hadn’t considered. I am also fearful of what world those children will have when they are adults though. I’m about to turn 32, and haven’t much longer to decide. I am really fearful though.

@@PhiliH88 there has quite literally never been a better time to be alive than today. There is less poverty, lower child mortality, fewer wars, more education and health than ever before. Every single day 200.000 people are getting out of poverty and most of the world (90 %) no longer live in extreme poverty. Just 200 years ago that was most of the world. This is massive, and there is no reason the great trends shouldn’t continue. I know climate change is a really big problem, and eco anxiety is real and scary. But I just wanted to encourage you, because sometimes we can live in this bubble of “the world is burning” and not see the giant leaps the world have taken in just the last 50 years. The world is getting better on almost all perimeters. I think it is so sad if fear is keeping you from having kids (if you want them of course). Is seems like a big burden to bear, and I really hope this encouragement comes across in the right way and helps a little. All the best to you! 🤗

Hah. - You as an individual are not responsible for staving off climate change. Overpopulation is a capitalist myth; there are plenty of resources for all 7 billion of us if we actually cared for the planet the way we should have been, and the way native/indigenous cultures did for thousands of years before Eurooean colonialism, the industrial revolution, and ever-less-regulated capitalism. Have kids if you want to be a parent and are prepared for whatever happens there. Focus your activism energy on learning about, and raising awareness of, how crony capitalism and unregulated destruction have decimated our ecosystems, and the only way to make massive change happen will be to enact massive systemic shifts. Personal consumer culpability for global issues is one of the worst lies we've been fed as consumers. Do what you can to make better choices, but no matter how many people go vegan or low/zero waste, things like deforestation and factory farming will not cease. Personal choices will not solve systemic issues, point blank period, and killing yourself with stress over taking on responsibility like that does no one any good. ❤️
I totally agree with you! I wasn’t saying that I double think it because of over population, I said that I do because this is a crazy world and you’re bringing a child into a life of facing climate change at a more intense rate than I’ve been able to enjoy, feels selfish to bring someone into that reality. That being said, if I do want children there are so many other lovely things in the world but it’s a good thing to keep in the back of the mind 💛 I wholeheartedly agree that overpopulation is a racism rooted capitalist myth. @@SedonaChristina Oh for sure! I guess I didn't specify very well in my comment, but it was meant more for anyone who may be asking the same questions but not have that knowledge base. A lot of comments I saw at first glance were focused on the environmental bit, so I wanted to offer a counterpoint to that tendency to internalize and take on personal responsibility for big problems. I don't want kids at all so I completely get it on the anxiety over the world being crazy, 100% with you there. Whatever you decide, it's up to you and same goes for anyone else :)
I know you probably won’t see this but if you do the snake plant in the background looks like it’s getting too much water, mine would bend over and break and it’s because when you water it too often and too much the roots rot. Idk just a tip, I was sad when mine kept breaking.
No idea how to phrase this to get your attention, but I was told that tennis balls are not the best toys for dogs, as they have harmful substances and well dogs chew on them. Not a critique in any way, we sometimes give them to play to our cats, but try to not let them bite them. Anyone correct me, if they aren’t harmful. Also loved this video so so much, the new direction you are going in, feels very real and raw and just beautiful ❤️ you are very relatable and I can’t even start to express how much easier you make it for us, being so open.
About having kids; I have always wanted kids too and I don’t really like the idea or suggestion many have that it’s bad for the world to have kids. I think I’d rather have me and other environmentally conscious people having kids than those who don’t care for the environment. I’d like to think I could raise them to be more conscious of the climate and our nature, and they could be the ones who’ll continue the fight against climate change after our generation. We could raise our kids to save the world instead of tearing it down.

I had the copper IUD for a few years, but it made cramps so much worse for me. I switch to Kyleena and feel wonderful now. I don't even need tampons or pads anymore.
I literally had to talk out having a second child with a therapist because of climate change and I ultimately decided to have another and I love my sweet girl SO much. The thing that got me was "would you regret it if everything ended up being fine?" As well as being someone who cares for the environment could potentially raise a child who will do more good than bad. Also a Canadian living in the US.
This is my standpoint too. Your parenting will do more for climate change in the far future than the actual factor of having a child. I hate it when people try to shame somebody into not having a child if they want one. Ultimately you should live your best life ❣️
My thoughts on the kids thing is that if everyone who cares about the planet chooses not to have kids and everyone who doesn't care has a bunch then we are royally screwed.
A person can have their own children and still care for the environment. It's just being responsible like everything else. Sadly many children do need adoptions because of unforseen circumstances, or lack of responsibility of parent(s). Now having a ton of kids is definitely too much on the environment of course. There has to be a balance like anything else.

Kids are amazing and if they grow up with your principles then they will HELP not hurt the planet ❤️ Yes I get there are too many people, but if they grow up low impact it's possible that their low impact lifestyle will influence people that they meet. It will be so normal for them that it will intrigue others.

Oh my gosh, compost was my first thought if I were an eco swap 😂 my friends think I’m crazy with all the things I make them compost when visiting me including keeping a compost container in my bathroom for tissues and floss and what 🤪

My grandma also just adopted a chihuahua and the biting is out of control. My friend said it helps if every time they bite, you tell them "no" sharply and put a toy in their mouth instead. Good luck!
I've got a Springer Labrador cross and she likes to play with her mouth and will bite you - one way of getting around that is giving her a toy to chew so she expresses that PLAYTIME!!! energy on the toy and not our hands haha good luck ❤ Facebook groups are fab for advice on your v specific breed of dog tho good luck 🙌

But, yes, my cooking definitely helped because my partner injured his knee in August and couldn't really fend for himself for 2/3 weeks, so he had no choice but to eat what I put in front of him. I made sure he ate enough calories and the food was tasty (which wasn't really difficult), he even got desserts. I went to a conference and when I came back, lo and behold, the man was a vegan 😅 He has been cooking a lot and actually liking it and is feeling much better, which is the main reason he decided to stick with it in the first place
I have a Chihuahua Jack Russel Terrier mix. Mine's energetic, needs attention at all times 😂 he commands it. He follows me like a duckling, he lets me know he has to go to the bathroom by standing next to his leash and sniffing it or by standing by the door. He is aggressive when it comes to his hygiene, will bite me if I try to clean his ears, butt (when he has poop on the fur), bath time, and if i have to apply any medications like for ringworm or an ear infection. He acts tough around other dogs and some pple but is really just for show because he's easily scared. Like a child he is scared of being in our huge backyard at night because it's dark and the trees make noise. 😂💙🐶
You can adopt a kid that would suffer a lot if they didn't have you, you don't need to birth a child to be a mom. Also, as someone with severe depression, I always ask people to rethink about birthing children because you can't forsee the traumas they'll go through. If you have the option, please adopt ♥ you'll be saving 2 children
Not saying Canada doesn’t have THE BEST to offer! Canada truly is the best country in my mind. It’s my home. (Not that Canada doesn’t have many of the same problems too, every country does) But moving to a different country is something that many many humans want, and I am very lucky to have been able to do that with little to no effort (literally my dads work did all the work for me, and many cannot say that). Also we have to remember that prior to 2016 (I moved in 2009), the usa specifically, was a place many international people thought was all it was cracked out to be in the movies. Which I immediately found was not true. I did not tell all of my story in this video, as I believe it will risk my application status (hopefully this comment isn’t seen lol). I’ll wait until it’s processed next year to really go into the tea- tbh there’s a chance I will get kicked out of the country (a place I’ve been for 10yrs and would have to totally rebuild my life) in March, as of right now, should my application not go through, so all of this may have just been a live experience. It’s a privilege to be able to get up and choose which country I live in. And I do not take that lightly. There are SO many people who want to move to another country, and two great ones were handed to me. I also have to believe that the country will turn around!!! It has to. 2020 has been a call to growth and action for all. I truly think it will! It might not be tomorrow though. 💛

The world needs more people like you TO have kids. Your denying your child the chance to do something amazing and could be part of a change. Most of the time someone that says that's their only reason not to have kids is the very kind of person that would raise amazing conscious kids.
