MASSIVE thanks to Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order for giving me this opportunity to build this city. I'm the luckiest $2.20 ever.
This is my experience playing Cities Skylines 2 and building the city for the trailer. I also go through my plans for my first series in Cities Skylines 2 and the future for my current series, Oceania and Sunset City.

5:18 EU and USA flags for European and American building styles. Nice, just like in the last game. However, I had also hoped for an Asian building style in CS2. Because right now I'm fascinated by Japan and building a Japanese inspired city. But they don't really have any low density asian buildings in CS1. The way how I feel that it works that in CS1, generic building style is mostly inspired by American (for low density buildings) and Japanese (for high density buildings). But they don't have a lot of low density asian buildings. I would have loved CS2 to have such a style like that. And don't just stop at Asian, Southern American also has a lot of beautiful architecture that could have been featured. It's not like I expected these things to be in CS2, but I do hope they will add more exotic building styles, not just assets nor content creator packs, in the future

This game seems like a HUGE breath of fresh air. I mainly play FPS and to be completely honest those games have gone completely downhill, at least the mainstream titles. The developers for those games have almost completely cutoff listening to community feedback for game updates or future titles. CS2 Seems like the embodiment of building upon what works and taking into account what the community has asked for. As I've always had a knack for sandbox games like CS1 or Minecraft, its relieving to see a developer listen and embrace its community in 2023. I cant put into words how excited I am for this game.

The main thing i worry for is the lack of improvement when it comes to the Water. in CS1 all water if its moving basically acts like an ocean with waves meters high so if you place anything near it you need to have an obsurd high wall or pier poles that are a mile long towering above any boats that might be part of it. (unmodded) And so far in the CS2 trailers it seems the water is the same. i live in the netherlands.. and just like how you want to make American style cities i want to make cities similar to Amsterdam. basically lots of water rivers and housed next to water filled ditches.. only i don't like to stack mods to much. hoped CS2 would make it easier but no hint of that yet.

"Water filled ditches" You mean canals ?
@akyhne
@akyhne 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, the water simulation in C:S is pretty bad. In my country, we don't have large rivers. We have two words for river; small ones and bigger ones. We don't have the latter, and you simply can't make the small ones, in the game. A typical "å", as we call the small ones, are from a few meters wide, to maybe 6-8 meters. You can't make any river in the game, much smaller than 16 meters, which means you can't make realistic maps.
@DJFlorilu
@DJFlorilu 11 месяцев назад
@@ImRezaF They are no real canals. I live in the northern part of Germany near the coast where land has been dried out with wind mills (now with electric pumps), just like in the Netherlands. Imagine a ton of road ditches filled with water arranged in squares. They are literally called drainage ditches. With most of them you have to be lucky to see one where you can go canoeing.

I think Guest Builds and Community contests might be a good idea to fill in the big blanks in Oceania and Sunset City. There's no hurry to finish CS1 for good once CS2 comes out, but leaving the projects uncompleted would certainly be a bummer.

I think people need to remember that the game is a new game, so it will be stripped back right to basics. Of course, we see some of the CS1 features and potential mods introduced, but not everything will be included. Also, my add not everyone can/wants to play with mods and assets, so they have to make sure they can add feature ls and do things so everyone can play. This may be why map sizes are not as big as people thought etc One of my guesses for 2 expansions could be a remoddle of of Mass Transit and a potential DLC based on universities. The Mass transit one may add the airport dlc content as well as new transport types like monorails and trolley busses as well as tranist hubs. The one based on universities could expand into high schools, etc.

I think it would make a lot of sense to gradually transition from CS1 to CS2 as the latter game develops further. New Dollarton would be a great way to introduce the game and show off its new features, but there's no reason to kill off Oceania and Sunset City straight away, especially since people will still keep making mods for it. I think you should try to wrap up your current cities so they're finished up by October and then focus on CS2 going forward. But because there won't be as many mods and assets available at the start, I think you should also try to strengthen your gameplay skills and making things in the game functional rather than purely visual. You're already really great at the detailing part, but it's a little unfortunate when you turn icons on and everything is in a state of emergency lol

I think a great example for a DLC that is gonna expand in a new way upon the game is "themes". I can totally see them release a DLC that adds a japan theme with all the roads and buildings. This IMO is the best part about C:S 2. Planning in these kind of expansions that they KNOW the community will love and get value out off from the start and building the game in a way around it that just makes sense. I think all the extra menus with mods make it a little cluttered at times so having even the UI be prepared for this is just great to see.

One of the things I struggle with in C:S1 is building a functioning traffic network, maybe it's because I don't drive but my city gets to a decent size and it all goes to hell, then I'm watching reading tutorials/watching videos to try and get roadway hierarchy, lane mathematics, etc. into my head. By which time I've lost a lot of enthusiasm. I don't know if there's a good solution or if it's even an actual problem outside of me, but I hope they don't just lean on the online community to pick up the slack that a good in-game tutorial would cover.

5:35 Oh, this is a really interesting comment. I think most of us play reactively, since that's kind of how this genre has always been since the first SimCity. And by that, I mean grow your zones and then respond to what's missing--service coverage, parks, schools, etc.--when in reality those kinds of things are planned in advance to encourage growth from the outset. I like this idea that you kind of have to map those aspects out first, before anyone will even consider moving to a new neighborhood you've built.

Question: what was the system specs you used for playing? How did the game feel (e.g. fps, load, etc.). Also, for your CS1 build series: keep it going, but set an end goal to celebrate. e.g. a "complete city". Just a thought.
@TheWolfCub71
@TheWolfCub71 11 месяцев назад
So I have a thought on your quandary over adding tons of detail vs expanding your city. If you want to focus on expansion, you could find another content creator and collaborate. You build out a city and then your collaborator could detail the areas you build out. Another way is you could do contests where you make your city shareable and then have viewers detail a particular section of it and you pick your favorite and add it into your city. That could be an ongoing way to detail your city and create engagement as well.

@The average south African The number of tiles or space to build in was not the problem it was the number of items that could be built within that space that caused the problem...... In order to make the game run on lower spec PC systems they put an artificial limit to the number of items that a map can have.... I understand that from a marketing standpoint it caters to the larger majority but it puts handcuffs on those that do not have those limitations... It would be nice if there was a simple DLC removing those limitations for those who want it and can use it...

@@GSpotter63I was thinking the same. The mods that removed the limits were always a bit wonky and usually heavily conflicted with other mods. I have an idea! Maybe build a city in CS2 and then build another one in CS1 so that you could feel the comparison right then and there and possibly you’ll find out something new about CS2 (maybe some details that weren’t in CS1 and so on)

Something I would like to see is being able to do something with the little spaces in between lots that are too small to place anything on and end up being just left as grass (this is particularly and issue on curved roads and non-right angle intersections). Besides placing the random trees or park props, it would be nice if you could paint over those areas to make them look like brick pathways or alleyways, because seeing undeveloped grass lands in the center of city downtowns hurts my immersion.

I think you should keep with the current series for a while. I believe CS1 will yet be more versatile and complete for a while until we can have in CS2 all the complexity of the DLCs, like industry etc.

Hi! I really want to do a futuristic green city sort of thing. Renewable energy, lots of trees (and ideally green buildings but I'm fairly certain that that's too much to ask for), focus on public transport and bicycle lanes over cars, maybe waterways within the city, etc. I saw the trains and trams and I'm assuming that there will be solar panels as an alternative to the power plant. How realistic is it for me to hope these other things will be in the game? I know part of gameplay is reducing pollution. Do you think the modding community might do them? I never played CS1 so I don't know what the modding community for the game is like. Thank you, -Alex

Good to know there's European style as well in CS2. What's very important is whether we get like a full European package or just some zonable buildings but the rest (like roads, signs, all the ploppable buildings like schools, hospitals etc) remains random ie American. That's what can make me buy CS2 quickly or wait quite a long time until mods and (European) custom content is there.

Great video on laying out your experiences with CS2! Very very excited (along with the millions of CS1 players). I have upgraded my PC over the years specifically to cater to my ever growing love for CS and its mods (CPU, RAM, GPU) only to find out that theres some CPU core limitations due to its use of the game engine, (something like 8 cores). Like Im just locked at 20-30fps when I zoom in to the max in certain areas of my city despite having a high-spec machine. I zoom out and I'm playing at 100+fps or something. Did you experience any of these issues with CS2? Are all your PC's resources being used to its highest potential? like no simulation slowing down cause the Cores are all getting used up or something like that. Also saw on Steam recommended settings with the 2080ti 11GB. Will VRAM be much of an issue? #qanda Im planning to build a new PC by this year and I want to account for CS2 and how much CPU cores it can handle. Like is it better to get a CPU with few "fast" cores or one that has a many "average" cores? Cheers mate, always great seeing the detail in your videos.

My biggest wish for the game I to be able to have separate grids for power and water and they have their own tracking. It's the hardest part of doing an entire county of cities bur not being able to see specifically which population needs aren't being met. It would be a dream for me

I am hell bent on re creating NYC. Had done it at least 4 times. I hope the new one will allow us to do that. I also wonder about the workshop and adding mods and assets to CS2. Would be cool if we could port or some way add existing assets to the game. It would suck having to re create all those assets made for CS1 workshop.
