Yes, just need to be compliant with your one and only government party. If you disagree you are fucked. This is not something that happens in a democratic country (exceptions might exist, but they are that). Take e.g. the criminal record, yes it exists in democratic countries, but you'd not get an entry for simply disagreeing with the countries president or party. As well you can mostly insult him/her to your liking, only few and reasonable boundaries exist there. No, countries like Turkey are not really democratic anymore, even if they label themselves as such.

If you want to express your basic fundamental rights like the right to free speech then you’ll be thrown in jail and tortured to death, great country, China is so awesome… you guys are pretending to love China because if you didn’t, they would arrest you and you’d never be seen again that’s the true we know you’re pretending to be happy or your government will kill you…

@@maggnet4829 A quick follow-up about free speech in Kazakhstan. The liberal opposition in Kazakhstan lives perfectly fine, criticizing the government and Nazarbayev's family 24/7. No one got to jail in Kazakhstan only for criticizing the government publicly. The only people that get thrown in jail are workers strikes or (more rarely) social protests organizers. I have to admit that in this respect, Kazakhstan has one of the most terrible governments in the world. The labor activists get killed and tortured. This is the dark side of Kazakhstan, but it's not unique for dictatorship regimes. Many liberal democracies regularly violate workers rights around the world. At this point, this is a question of economic performance and whether the state has enough money to deal with the problem. Otherwise, brute force is used. India is a good example. It is a liberal democracy with free speech, but it also throws labor activists in jail. Guess why? Because India is also poor and it cannot afford to give a precedent of government actually listening to people and securing their economic rights.

To answer your question, there are a bunch of tourist shops that sell revolutionary era communist merch because it’s what a lot of tourists are expecting (like the 1950’s style green party hats with red star, and copies of Mao’s little red book) None of locals give one flying flip about that stuff, but those shops exist entirely because foreigners want to take some old school CCP stuff home to show their friends.

But it’s not the US talking about the concentration camps and slave labor of minorities in china, it’s independent human rights groups, most of whom are not affiliated with the US. The US isn’t perfect but when independent human rights groups are showing actual evidence of state run slavery and organ harvesting I think the rest of the world should at the very least look into it. The US had issues and it’s called out on those issues all the time, it doesn’t hide it because the media won’t let them hide it (to an extent but even then thank goodness for Edward Snowden) but China is a totalitarian government with state run slaves.

The first event you mentioned I actually did learn about in a college textbook and the second event I saw on the news, however I agree that the media is biased snd we should be careful in what we listen to. My point was to criticize the CCP, not to glorify the US or any media for that matter. Neither was my point to glorify the US government because they are for sure not perfect. I just think that when government do wrong they need to be called out. I am sorry for any suffering that my country has caused you. I am thankful that we have these platforms to which we can discuss each other’s views and I hope that you reply to this message with further criticisms.

One big example is here where I'm from, people will assume that Japanese people only eat fish and serve them fish to be polite. It's for burgers for Americans, pasta for Italians etc.

It’s an economic power play. It might sound nefarious, but think about this: Google, a publicly traded company who’s interests tip in the favor of the highest bidder, controls the viewpoint of a significant percentage of the human population. That’s absolutely terrifying when you consider the ramifications. China blocked google (and google properties like RU-vid) in order to promote their own search engines, video sharing sites, and social media.

Yeah, there are MANY regional styles of Chinese food. Chinese food varies greatly from one province to another. In America, Chinese restaurants usually serve a very limited number of Americanized Cantonese or Hong Kong dishes (which are great, by the way) and I’ve never seen any of them in the mainland. The reason being most Chinese immigrants to the USA came from Guandong and Hongkong, and tried to make their traditional dishes but couldn’t find the right ingredients in America, so they used what they could find instead. A lot of my European friends tell me it’s similar in their countries- that there’s a very distinct style of Chinese/Spanish food, or Chinese/German food that you will never find in China.

If you prefer to ignore facts because you think it's "polite" to do so, that's your business. Evaluating racists as such is accurate. Not regarding racists as racists due to them being in a particular country is nonsensical. Additionally, not all Chinese as a nation, but individuals in the country are racist. There is a lot of racism in China, and it is culturally tolerated. That breeds racism. Ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist won't help.

Like I said in this video: people are people are people.

At our cores I think most people are about the same as far as values and whatnot: we wanna do something meaningful with our lives, most of us would like to have a healthy family, a good love life, a job we like or at least don't hate, a decent amount of money and enough time to relax/have fun every now and then. I've noticed no matter the surface level differences most people can agree on that.

@@RamseyDewey I meant my credit card score. Sure my insurance rate goes up but thats it. My credit card score , ability to travel by plane , use the internet etc stay the same, my cost of living aside from increased insurance rate stay the same. If I get banned from facebook I simply get banned from that social media site nothing else in my life is impacted.

@oui oui Yeah I'm biased asf against the whole put the community first aspect of East Asian culture. That breads the respect much more than any social credit score. The few east Asians I am or was friends with were hyper individualistic and moved here or didn't communicate with their 1st generation family due to how over bearing that is. It creates manners and supposedly good people but the trade off isn't worth it. We are going way outside of social credit now and talking different ways of life. Also the only reason the number of east asians I am friends with is low is because buffalo ny has a really low asian population in general.

With all due respect, Ramsey is not someone who pays the price for the authoritarian and oppressive aspect of chinese society. Locals are, who grow up in that system and get their mind mutilated by it. If shit hits the fan in china, Ramsey can return to the US whenever he wants. Same with any expats in china, I've encountered a few of them this year. Of course their views are gonna be skewed in favor of that society because the price of safety isn't payed by them. And most locals don't know any better because china is all they know.

No. I’m actually a British person who grew up in America eating old timey British food my mom learned to make during post war rationing after the Nazis bombed the English countryside. There are about 400 different languages in China. Most people in Shanghai speak Mandarin. I still hear older people speaking Shanghainese to each other every day though.

I’m not much of a tourist. I have no idea what the sites are supposed to be. No, I have no become sick from eating seafood. Here’s how to tell if your seafood is fresh at the fish market: it’s alive when you buy it. It’s very simple. English is all over the place here. You’ll be fine. Shanghai is one of the safest cities on the planet. I walk around at night all the time. No worries.

As far as renting an apartment for a month, I don’t know. Usually rental agreements with foreigners require you to be a Shanghai resident, as opposed to a tourist.
