I feel like Anthony's affection towards Sienna was misguided. She was the type of person he knew he could never marry so that fact allowed him to be happy with her to a certain degree. He knew his relationship with Sienna would never be on par with the love his parents shared. He had passion with Sienna but she was also his way of avoiding marriage aka possibly finding true love.

he didnt really want to marry sienna last season, he just wanted to bring her to a society party with him to prove that he is "committed" to her. which is a big feat on its own, but it doesn't really mean marriage. bec if it did, sienna would have definitely stayed w/ anthony bec that would mean permanent stability for her. anthony just wanted to "keep her" as his mistress but in a much formal way. a dick move, which sienna saw through immediately.

His motives in the first season are actually the same. He never loved Sienna, she was just was a means of avoiding responsibility that he had been avoiding as part of his father's legacy. So literally avoiding his trauma by using her and maintaining her as a mistress-- he was so desperate to do that he was convinced his feelings were deeper than they were. If he had loved her he also would likely be a little more self aware of his feelings for Kate, but he has absolutely no clue.

The chose to calm him down with her heart beat was simply PERFECTION I have no words it was epic

I think when Violet said it’s Edmund’s choice she meant if he’d been there it wouldn’t even be a question whether or not to listen to what she chooses.

The TV show's Sienna Rosso is loosely based on the novels Maria Russo. Maria plays a very small part in the overall story as she is simply one of many mistresses Anthony had during his time as a rake. I'm not sure why the writers made Anthony have deeper feelings for Sienna during Season 1, but that was the part that was added in. Season 2's portrayal of Anthony not wanting a love match because he does not want to cause his potential beloved any grief upon his death is canon to the novel. The TV show left out the detail that Anthony was also convinced that he would die young as he could not imagine outliving his father, which adds further to his decision not to fall in love. I personally think it is a much better motivation than simply having lost Sienna in Season 1, and I assume the writers agreed because not only was Anthony losing Sienna is not referenced at all in Season 2, but also because one of the main goals of this episode seemed to be to validate his reasoning by showing how traumatic everything was for him.

it's not really kate's fault that anthony has an attraction to her - she's made it fairly clear she isn't interested in persuing any kind of relationships, and believes anthony wants to persue edwina, and has no reason to believe it's because of her. especially as she's done nothing but show her distaste for anthony since they met, until this episode. there might be feelings developing on kate's part but it's not like either have done anything that would instigate an attraction purposefully.

One of the interviews Jonathan saidAnthony always knew he would never be able to merry Siena deep down. And it was kind of self dooming act.

The want of marriage without love for the very reason of not wanting to deal with the possibility of such grief was a center piece of Anthony's story in the book. Another layer, that they left out in the show, is that he is convinced he will die young like his father as he has no right to outlive such a great man as his father (its one of many reasons he was so associated with his father's pocket watch in the first season). As such he was even more concerned of leaving behind a widow.

I don't think he loved Siena, he knew he could never be with her so whatever he felt or did with her or promised. Deep down the knew it would be nothing anyway. It was another way of acting out his fear of love and real commitment

The backstory is actually what's in the books, I never got the point of having him with Sienna in s1, in the books she's 'just' a mistress.

"What did people do in those days if you had allergies?" Nothing. Medicine was very limited in those days. I don't even know if they knew what allergies were. So the sad answer is, nothing.

Anthony never loved sienna. He had more of a sexual relationship with her. It was escapism. He knew he will have good sex life with Sienna but never love. But with Kate, it is different. Also, he didn't want to marry for love. This is not just for the season but was also in the book. Kate & Anthony's chemistry is mind-boggling

The thing is, this is true book Anthony, the made up part that doesn't fit this was the romance with the opera singer, it doesn't exist in the book.. I assume they added in S1 to bring more drama to the show and to suit the whole antagonist narrative that they wanted for him, and this is why it bothered me so much S1, not only they ruined the character but the choices aren't consistent to the backstory and what we are seeing now

o how I love jonathan bailey. he indeed is a fine actor

I don't think they weren't coherent with his characters motives. What Anthony had with Sienna was some sort of escapism. Most of their scenes together, the way that I saw it, were sexual and did not cut too deep. They clearly had a place in each other's hearts, but they were replaceable, once the life they wished for themselves rose to the occasion, which is why I don't think their relationship can be considered as love, nor what he was looking for in a marriage. His most prominent characteristic is that he wants to be a successful vicount and make his parents proud of his abilities to maintain the family's name and rank. He always knew he couldn't be with Sienne which is why so early on he cuts it off, knowing it was temporary. Later on, because he did share a connection with her, he had unrealistic thoughts of having her as some sort of mistress (not unrealistic as for the era they lived in, but because of Sienna's wishes for herself). When she tells him she cannot keep coming back to him and to his paper promises he doesn't even try to deny it. He knows she's right. Now, what he has with Kate is different. He is challenged, not only sexually attracted. He did set his mind up that he is going to marry, as described at the beginning of the season, because is the right thing to do for the vicount, which is why he feels even more obligated to his rank then ever-making his bundle of complex feelings towards Kate, who is some sort of a noble unlike Sienna, more real, while not being able to escape from them or to them... So, in a way, he is the perfect picture of fear of performance and trying to maintain a facade and taking care of everyone as he sees right, while seeking every cheat moment to get out of his responsibilities and find out what makes him actually happy, because he doesn't make most of his decisions from that place.

Well, no EpiPens around back then. If you're allergic and you got an anaphylactic shock, you died. Even today and with an EpiPen it's not that simple and it's so very fast. In the books Anthony is struggling with his own mortality. His father and his uncle died young. He realy is thinking, that he wont live a long life, so he does not want to cause pain to someone left behind. He saw how his mother suffered and how it effected him and the older siblings. Society dictates his path, so he'll marry out of duty (not love), have an heir to pass on his title - no regrets and everything on order for his early demise... Blah, blah, blah,... Well, life had other plans. His heart is way past having no feelings, his head and thinking is slow and wrong though. The opera singer was just a fling, his mistress in the books and she would never have been accepted into polite society. It was very normalised back then for men of the ton to have a secret mistress, women on the other hand had to be pure and of good breeding (stock).

A lot of people hate on their mother for not stepping up as “lady of the house” and for apparently putting pressure on her sons because Anthony, Benedict and Colin were still very young…..but I think people forget that back then, women had no rights and society had it that the men were in charge of the households which also included any brothers.

The next move is for it to be shown in Fiji, which is located in the South Pacific Ocean on April 21st and in Canada on April 29th and in Ireland and Northern Ireland on the same day as Canada’s and in Australia at a later date. After the theater deals are finished it will have a worldwide release via movie streaming platforms ❤️❤️
