Anthony Newley sings "Remember Me," the "Eleven o'clock song" from his musical CHAPLIN, on the Tonight Show. Unfortunately, although it got very close, the show would never reach Broadway, after a run in Los Angeles in 1983 and a rewrite and run in Houston in 1985.
Many thanks to Joseph Diaz for the clip.

I am obsessed with Anthony Newley. It’s a true love affair, only sadly he never knew about it. There is something bigger than life about him - he will never die. Read the wonderful biography Stop the World by Garth Bardsley; you’ll understand the man behind the legend. I bless RU-vid for giving us so many of his great performances.

I have been a Newley fan since the year dot....but it is only whilst listening to him sing this song I've realised was a strong and excellent voice he had, bless him, he should have been knighted years prior to his death. RIP Anthony, we miss you!

I adore this song. I sing it a little faster and audiences love it. Tony was a lyrical genius.

This song and "When You Gotta Go" should be more well known and potential standards, they're that good!

Grande Mr. Newley (RIP)fue la inspiración en los inicios de uno de los grandes artistas, el inigualable camaleón del rock: David Bowie (RIP)...

I assume Chaplin was a flop I've certainly never heard of it. Shame. Child star, actor, singer, composer even directed films. A wonderful man- mr Newley I mean not Chaplin.. I was born in the late 70's after mr. Newleys heyday but I have seen most of his films, tv etc and I'm familiar with stop the world and the smell... That film - the small world of Sammy Lee - I think I'll have to check IMDB- is one of the greatest performances ever. It's great to think with Chaplin etc that there is still so juch more to discover. I think he wrote that finney musical film Scrooge as well - with Bricusse I presume. When I hear him sing pop goes the weasel I am in heaven. Someone told me he appeared in Eastenders which seems kind of rediculous. Does anyone know? Guess it's back to IMDB or wiki. Thank you for this.

Hello "newleyadmirer"! That name definitely fits me also! I've been a fan for at least 50 years! As Sinatra said about Eleanor Powell in "That's Entertainment", "You can sit around and hope but...you'll never see the likes of this again." Newley's talent was impossible to measure. All of the youtube posts of him are wonderful but I have a special affection for the clips of him with Sammy Davis Jr. However this one is great also and I'll come back to it often. My sincere thanks to Sandy for posting!
