Oh my. I had a DAY with my kiddos yesterday. I mean, a DAY. Lol But you know what? I controlled myself under the stress. Thank you Lord because you never give up on refining me. Hang in there ladies, I'm 44 and I'm just barely starting to get it. And I'm sure I'll keep failing too. Lol Thanks for your ministry. I'm so blessed by your family.

At about 13 minutes in, she’s talking about what the world has to say to an overwhelmed mother, things like “Sorry you had so many kids…” or even “You deserve wine and yoga.” and “You’re amazing! You’re doing awesome!” (whether that’s true or not) and she also goes on to say that in reality, trying times are for our good. I am a homeschooling mother of 7, with my first grand baby on the way, and I have been on the marriage and parenting sanctification road for 22 years. What I say to young mothers who are overwhelmed is not “Buck up and thank God for this overwhelming trial! It’s for your own good after all.” No. I try to weep with those who are weeping. And in my opinion one of the most neglected realities about overwhelmed young moms, is that they really and actually ARE overwhelmed. They are not all just weak spoiled princesses who need to learn to be more thankful. They are not all fragile. Sometimes even very hardy Christian women are pressed down to brokenness. That is what is to be expected, and it’s not a sign of sin or failure. It’s progress. I’d be much more concerned about a Christian sister who never falls prey to overwhelm or fragility. Helping our sisters in this boat may not look like shaming her for her self pity. Instead, it may look like helping her to see what things she is doing that the Lord never actually asked her to do. Sometimes moms are overwhelmed because, between the kid’s 3 separate private schools, piano lessons, soccer, the Latin tutor, the math tutor, the perfectly clean house, the detailed van, the fully stocked pantry and fridge, with the meal plans, and the gardening, the chicken coop, and the cow, the RU-vid channel, date night, and the blog, Crossfit, and Costco, she’s having a hard time reading the Bible. It really is true that taking a break from the monstrous business, to reevaluate what the Lord has actually called us to do, can be life changing. As for me and my house, we didn’t need any of the things listed in that litany of overwhelming business above, except the Bible reading. Joy is to be found in simplicity and contentment.

may God help us all to open our eyes and see that all we go through can be done only through His strength! I've seen how it is possible, I am the sixth child out of eighteen and there's no greater example in my life than my mom who has raised children for the Kingdom to come. God will bless all those mothers!!

i totally agree that we need to be faithful to God and just wake up and do the mothering thing. i find i've struggled with doing it joyfully with a 2 year old and 3 month old and i appreciate the reminder that they watch and mimic you and your disposition. i want to add though that it is WONDERFUL to be able to lean on family members. we used to have a village for help and support and now it's the norm to isolate ourselves and our children from our relatives. my parents and my husband's parents love helping out and watching one of both of the babies so i can get a break and take a nap. even with breaks mothering is hard, so don't feel like you have to take the burden completely alone. our relationships with our family and friends are so important!

Whose name is on your forehead? Thank you for the reminder of who we are, who we belong to and the refinement process by its nature must be intense. Forgive me, Lord when I take that escape route and shrink away from difficulty, pain, strife that will serve to make me more like Jesus. No turning back!

I'm a single woman, unmarried and without children, approaching the end of child-bearing age. And although I exalt motherhood as the best thing you can do, I'm very harshly critical of young mothers in my generation. I'm critical partly because of my difficulties in relating to other people, and partly because of jealousy. But, I have occasionally met young mothers who I respected and admired. The thing they all had in common was a concern for their children above their concern for what anyone else thought. It didn't seem to even enter their mind. They were unapologetically happy to take all that came along with it.

Marki, your honesty is admirable. Incredible actually. I just challenge you to reconsider your view that mothering is the "best" thing one can do. Mothering is good. But the Bible teaches that the best thing one can do is be part of taking the Gospel to the nations. And that requires both women who are mothers and women who are single. Remember 1 Cor 7 ;)

The best thing you can do or anyone can do for that matter is bring glory to God exactly where we are at. Regardless of our life status.

9:34 Fire is not gentle to the dross, but God likens us to the silver and the gold, not as the dross. It's about what God says who whe are. It's about us understanding our identity.

Beyond pity is that burning, pure love, That steels the saint through pain on pain, That pursues the flesh to its stronghold in the soul, and its home In the heavenly spirit, and its lair in the most holy, That burns and kills and tears unto the last scrimmage, Until it bares and embraces its prey with its steel claws. .. ...Like an alpine eagle falling on its prey, With the love that moves the stars, the power that is a Word To raise up and make alive... -J. Saunders Lewis, "Mary Magdalene" [excerpts], Oxford Book of Welsh Verse in English, pp 185-187.

I'm a homeschooling mom of 5 for context. I would recommend not watching any shows. Books, puzzles, Duplos (or substitute other toys that pull out his/her creativity), lots of outside time, baking, teaching to help with little chores (dusting baseboards, folding dishcloths, sweeping...they love to feel like they can contribute!) etc. It's more work when they're little, but it's so worth if for their long term development. Our oldest is now a teen, and, unlike what so many others say about raising teens, he's a joy. :)

don't expose your children to the internet, shows, or cocomelon. it's all brain rot. children didn't have this for thousands of years let alone even 100 yrs ago and we shouldn't start now. keep that precious attention span alive
