Previous comments are from many years ago - so this may go unnoticed - I was a student of Duarte and as the years passed became a colleague and close friend - he had a rule for tempi - 'the line must flow as speech, the end of the phrase being a point of aim', he had no issue with Antigoni's performance - in fact he told me he considered this CD to be his epitaph.
Not unnoticed :-) I fell in love with classical guitar as a teenager, went on to help run a classical guitar society in Birmingham, UK. Without a doubt this has always been one of my most favourite pieces and Goni plays it beautifully, so reminiscent of the English countryside. Thanks for sharing the story and thanks to your comment, I've discovered some new pieces to listen to on RU-vid - you have a new subscriber.
I was also a student of Jack’s. He was very happy with Antigoni’s interpretations and I can also assert that he did indeed consider the recording to be his epitaph.
That's great information if played this suite and his musikones op 107 from Jack I actually played it for Eleftheria kotzia whom he dedicated it too. An amazing composer
Slow!? It is meant to be reminiscent of the English countryside not a rock tune :) Possibly one of the best modern pieces for classical guitar. Beautiful.
Poupee Orly player chooses how it should be played if it does not say anything specific. and in this case (prelude) it only says leggiero. then it goes to molto meno mosso (much more slower). personally i play that part even slower. i enjoy it that way. she enjoys the way she plays, and that is the essence - a solo musician has the right and the duty to express him or herself.
¿The second movement must be played with an accent on the second beat of the meter?. ¿This accent corresponds to a particular rhythm of England? Greetings from Argentina.
I think Goni's interpretation is good. She plays the folk song much faster than the 66 / 72 specified by Duarte and the prelude, marked leggiero (32) , is played much faster also - but I think this is fine. Any faster would surely be ridiculous.
