I was so convinced I wanted ALP. It doesn't seem like ALP is taking this seriously anymore. Calling ALP the best is overrated now. They used to be the best. They seem to be money hungry. Now, after all the testing the R9 is the way to go. Especially when a full ALP system is $3819.45 for everything needed, and the R9 is $3999.99, and it works the best of all the systems tested. Plus, you get everything you need in a complete package. More upgrades are coming, this is only the beginning.

It does seem that ALP has been resting on its laurels, doing that for too long can result in falling behind.

ALP is pretty great, however I believe they want to maximize profits in this niche market over providing better integration, better displays, etc.

Thanks for speaking up and fully articulating all the frustration many current ALP and Net Radar users have been feeling for quite some time. ALP is way overdue in addressing these issues, while those of us using their product have been VERY patient, hoping they'd get around to fixing some of these issues. They haven't addressed the larger issues their customers are interested in, and the marketplace will soon pass them by if they don't become more responsive. Thanks, Vortex for a very clear description of the overdue shortfalls they need to address. I hope they're listening!

ALP owner here. You nailed the issues. The added bluetooth and speaker and updating or changing settings are great for 1990s not 2024. They are barely better than dip switches or DOS user interface. I will be getting a different car soon and if things don't improve I doubt I will stick with ALP.

It's most likely money reasons. Charging for all the peripherals that have low cost components like the BT module provide good profit and Tooling costs for new injection molds and circuit boards do the opposite, especially when they've already priced everything at what the market can bear. If they try to get the same profit margin with new product, they probably price themselves out of the market . They have negative incentive to make big changes.

Your thoughts are right on point. While I like the ALP and use them, I've defaulted to the R9 for most use. The whole ALP bits and pieces pricing strategy, and ridiculous mark up for Canada forces me to look elsewhere. ALP reliability has also been poor with several expensive part replacements that IMO are excessive. Walk the walk if you're going to do the talk. 2024 indeed.
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar Месяц назад
That’s a good point about reliability too. While they are put in demanding situations, I’ve also had multiple head failures over the years and I know others have as well. Other brands have had their own share of failures too, but still.

Seems like ALP just isn't innovating. I'm in the market for a jammer and want a few months to see what updates they do to improve those Dragoneye punch-throughs. But honestly at this point I'm not expecting much.

They keep promising with each new colored head (green, blue, black....), CPU, and firmware update and each change adds cost and doesn't work as advertised.

For microprocessors, that is probably a reasonable amount of memory. But every other point you have is really valid and I'm surprised that even things like Bluetooth aren't built in.

Great video. I have the fw4 box. I just got the tx black. My original heads are from 2018. The system seems to be working fine. I thought you just said you can’t use a tax black on box fw4 with older heads. Can you please tell me if my system is ok? I just want to make sure.

I'd really like a "refresh your setup" package where I could ship in all my old heads and swap them out, I've got two dead heads and not a ton of faith in my older ones, the heads have regularly failed about every 2-3 years.

Savage. 512 kb is so very 1985; Debbie would be all misty-eyed over it. Good points though. Sounds like ALP doesn't have a way to research product needs and development.

At this time refusing to rip out my three alp vehicles all installed after 2021. 😢 Mr Vortex finally depressed me. Hes still the king though. Weird thing when hit with de it says something else but shows on Bluetooth log as DE Waiting on testing…hopin Mr vortex knows something about these tests and gonna see sub par results. Then suppose I wasted 15K
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar Месяц назад
Don’t rip it out. It’s not a bad jammer. Again I still think it’s great. I just wish this update included more improvements. In the near term I’m hoping ALP releases an option for us to have older style DE jamming that was JTG.

Meant to say is Mr vortex holding back negative testing results on alp he already knows about hoping he was just frustrated in his correct statements about why the heck they don’t have BT HI FI all incorporated into cpu Hit 47 times by all guns Not one time an issue …. Depressed again .,,, Say it isn’t so ….😢

Sorry I read that like 3x and still don’t follow what you’re saying. Anyways, no I’m not holding anything back. Everyone’s test results are available on the forums and there’s plenty of discussion you can check out if you wanna learn more.

@@VortexRadar thx. So true on the competition surpassing alp with cpu additions that seem an obvious step. So ur tellin me the alp all of a sudden no longer jtg on older de algorithms. Lots of changes. The previous escort engineer that worked on the redline ci or whatever they call the integrated system, moved over to the uniden r9 side and alp site selling r9 off the site. Until I see the test from you I am holding off on my recommendation to brother who just picked up new Aston db12. Lucky sob. Making trip soon fl to ga. Always pass ga tech and think of u. Funny brother got his masters there and taught there Turned him into ur site AND YT LOVES IT

I'm an electronics engineer, so I can authoritatively tell you, for what this unit needs to do, it does not need copious amounts of memory, especially with efficient code and what I would expect to be fairly small lookup tables to cater to all the LIDAR units in the market.
@markmiller4595
@markmiller4595 Месяц назад
At what point, do we stop living in the past and giving ALP a free pass? They keep "upgrading" at an increased cost to the customer (green, blue, black heads to solve the issues but they don't, CPU 2 to 4 to 6, "newer, better" firmware to solve the problems but they don't) and yet we keep getting the same or decreased performance and not calling it what it is. You'd be better off with an older CPU and older firmware. If you only had the money to buy one system, the Uniden R9 would be the better choice.

Hey guys, I just ran a quick test on my anti-laser Priority control head version four with the total of three transmitter/receivers black (2022) and back and in front on my 2015 Toyota tundra. The range distance varied from 200 feet to 1500 feet in distance. Using my dragoneye gun ver 5.1 Kustom xlr and LTI-Truspeed-S I was not able to get a single punch through at any of the distances as given above and-in between. I don't believe it will be worth it for anyone in my position to pay more money to upgrade to the next control head six. Any thoughts? Sorry I don't know all of the terms because I don't do this stuff every day.

I'd caution specifically calling out DE firmware variants. We don't need DET working harder against us more than they already are.
