Or.... the last time you used the cheap wine bottle opener it broke... and you bought a new bottle of wine but forgot, NO BOTTLE OPENER... but suddenly you remember... the one your father gave to you over 20 years ago... you’ve never used it, but it’s always on display because it looks so freakin cool. Never knew how to use it... but today we have RU-vid... and after a 6 minute investment of time... I now have the coolest wine opener, art display and fond memories of my father who’s long since passed on! Thank you Peter von Panda!

I bought one of these from Frontgate. It works OK but only pulls the cork out about 80% of the way. And they look like standard sized corks. I have to use pliers to pull the cork out completely.

The original Bacchus wine opener was copied from an antique found by a Californian back in the 1970's. He took it upon himself to recreate the invention (patented in the 1800's) and brought the parts to my foundry in 1975 to have the parts duplicated. He went on for several years getting all the parts made and sold the first production versions to Abercrombie and Fitch. Later he developed a Red Bronze version that is the cadillac of openers. It not only takes the cork out of the bottle but in reversing the process and re-installing the cork back into the bottle.

And you'll notice that, even in this demonstration, the cork wasn't pulled out 100%. And mine didn't even pull it out that much (and I've opened many bottles already). There being no way to adjust the "throw" of the device and make the apparatus pull the cork out more than it does, the machine ends up being worthless. I've seen enough comments on various sites to know that others have had the same problem. Yet Frontgate denies they see a problem. I think it's a design flaw. So if you do want to buy one, I'd recommend your source be other than Frontgate. I feel like I've wasted a hundred dollars.

The stand is a later add-on - it's designed to clamp to a counter, hence the large amount of travel for the clamping screw. It should also have a stand for the base of the bottle to sit in while being opened. Sorry guv, you were gipped.
