Yes, I regret I wrote that a year ago, sorry! Since then I've learnt that either way works fine, as you describe. I was just used to sharpening the other way around.

How do you true and trim the stone? I just bought one just like this and have no idea what to do with it. Mine was converted to electric in probably the 1930’s btw.

@@josephsastre464 Unfortunately that is my problem too. In old videos you see people trimming it with iron pipes, but my stone is hard enough that it takes only very little of the stone, and a lot of the pipe. I also tried flint, and all of these take stuff off, but it is so slow. Modern people probably use diamond to cut it true. The tactic is to hold the thing you're using to trim sort of put. Whatever part is sticking out of the stone will hit it and be reduced. Your benefit is the electricity, you can simply put the pipe in a place and keep it going for a while. Don't go too deep though, might crack the stone. Also, sorry for my jumbled writing, I'm tired right now.
