SHOP WITH ME! | BARGAIN PRICES AMONG COSTLY COLLECTIBLES
Today’s challenge is to find reseller gold among the choice items of Antique Galleries of St. Petersburg! We’re up to the task as we comb the upper level and catacombs of this tony antique and vintage center, ferreting out things we can take elsewhere to sell for profit.
Enjoy our tour of the rest of this fine facility, where we find hidden bargains between displays of designer modernism and European antiques. We use some of our favorite tricks to find things that seem out of place or long forgotten in this venue, knowing that what might be overlooked here could find ready buyers elsewhere.
Markdowns on a cute 1955 Hull figural planter and a very fancy 19th century French clock tantalize. Handmade items that can’t be easily looked up online offer reseller potential, if you know what qualities to look for. A 1930s Pfaltzgraff bowl set that’s short one piece may be worth more dead than alive!
One reason antique malls are enjoyable places for resale shopping is that they’re already curated, so you know you’ll get to see a wide variety of real vintage instead of flea market junk. We get to see a really unusual slot machine, a hall tree that harkens back to Jacobean England and a true French deco smoking stand along our journey, and find a Swedish Monk’s chair that seems misplaced here and is a real deal!
In the end, we leave with a box of happy and fun bargains to resell in other venues, and prove that it is possible to buy for resale in a high-end antique mall.
Here’s some of the other cool things we encounter along the way:
Canada Dry rack, fab 50s moon and stars table lamp, Eames rocker, 1930s elephant teapot, Majolica bird tray, Pillivuyt porcelain urn, Staffordshire figurines, folk art star cabinet, Korean dragon lacquerware, painted peacock screen, chalk ware chieftain lamp, bisque blacksmith candle lamp, bowling trophies, 1920s tile table, chrome 1970s side table, chamber pots, 1930s torchiere lamp, oak secretary desk, 8-ball paperweight, Kaj Franck enamel bowls, Haeger Gardenhouse dealer plaque, cartoon character puppets, Blenko vase, lucite hanging lamp, Clover Bell slot machine, Brad Keeler lobster tray and flower bowl, 1950s leaf tv lamp, Gone With The Wind lamp, Lightolier pole lamp, etc.
