RENAISSANCE REVIVAL TO 70'S RETRO | ANTIQUE TOWN DESTINATION MALL
America's biggest beach town is also Florida's leading antique destination, and this converted 1960s bank building is part of the reason why! Antique Galleries of St. Petersburg is a new stop with great old things, just blocks from the town's Grand Central Antique District.
Today we discover why these galleries are distinctly different than the other antique shops in town. From the gated colonnade filled with patio concrete and garden iron to the corner gallery of Italian painted furniture, this is an antique and vintage mall far beyond the ordinary.
Do designer names float your boat? We learn why Jascha Brodjo changed his name, who created the scarce first Earth Day poster and when a German sculptor created a dynamic propellor shaped table. A candy jar from outer space by a famed ex-Blenko designer catches our eye for a moment...but then there were cute puppies to distract us!
The 1970s? They're well represented in a space full of mid-century kitsch and vibrant colors. The 1870s? A gallery full of Italian Renaissance Revival painted furniture is a stunning and different discovery. The 1770s? They have that too...this is one very complete antique pavilion, so much so that we'll have to come back soon to see the second story galleries!
Here's a few of the other things we find on our first pass through this exciting antique center:
Concrete cherub statue, Union Stoneware #12 crock, 1960s designer patio furniture, concrete bird baths, Gaudez sculptural lamps, battery operated train in box, Lionel olive drab train, Coca-Cola button, Disney tray and puppets, Colony 'Antigua' jar, Griff puppy litho, ABC plate, carved German nutcracker, slag glass lamp, Pyrex mixing bowl sets, stainless lab table, chrome modernist lamps, 1930s tile table, Italian tazza, carved religious figure, pietra dura table, Italian fasces inlaid sideboard, painted Italian cabinets and secretary desk, Victorian Italian tapestry, putti carved polychrome figure, R. Bellini painting, Georges Briard Pyrex tray, Blendo glass, tiered modern corner table, wall oven and cooktop, Royal Aristocrat typewriter, CB radio, repurposed crate table, etc.

Thanks George I like the Crock at the beginning of your video with the number 12 on it which is also my birthdate; I recently purchased a large crock at a family-run estate sale; it has cracks but I don't care as it will be an outside flower planter; nice haircut in time for the warmer weather; thanks again & have a great day.

Gallery? More like museum! Those pieces are incredible. I wonder about the backstory of how the photography collector lost that Earth Day poster 🤔 Oh, wow. I own those primary color Pyrex bowls (1980's). Now that you mention it, they do have a kind of a Memphis feeling. Shall I stop making granola in it?
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 года назад
It is a really high-end, beautiful store! I think the collector passed and the collection was sold, that's how such a scarce item appeared in St. Pete. Use that Pyrex, it was made for it! (Maybe just spare it the dishwasher or at least use liquid soap)

Hi George! Got in just a few minutes late...nebuliser treatment for mom. Those painted-over-bronze lamps are fantastic! I seriously like the Robinson Crusoe and Friday child's plate. That was a great price on the slag glass lamp. I'm not too wild about slag glass, (much prefer stained glass), but that was a really good price. I found mom a wicker table at a local thrift store, with a bit more decoration and a drawer, for $25.00. I thought I got a really good deal on that. Loved the tazzas. Great items in there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

Naples museum has fabulous pieces all taken from Pompeii. The museum itself is rather old fashioned in the level of sophistication with which the pieces are displayed - and the labels are only in Italian, surprising considering the number of foreign visitors
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 года назад
I imagine it's old fashioned because it's been there for a long time, my dad went when stationed in Naples in the 1950s
@lynnedelacy2841
@lynnedelacy2841 3 года назад
The British museums are old but have moved into 21st century ! I guess the Italian attitude is ‘if it ain’t broke’ and they have millions of visitors plus with the amount of history they have to deal with in Italy their culture budget must be spread thin !

Those musical lady plates looked like they had the extra ‘daring’ aspect of the ladies being from the harem- lots of speculation at that time as to what went on behind the closed doors of the Seraglio

Hey George! Great place. Loved the European items. I wanted to ask in your comments if there are any vintage doll enthusiasts with you tube or Instagram channels that I could subscribe to. I got bitten by the doll bug again this past weekend by an estate sale I went to. Love your content. So much to see and learn.

Hi Isela! I didn't see this until now. A lot of doll groups have disbanded, they were mostly older ladies who liked to gather at meetings about them. You could try VintageDollCollector on RU-vid though, I haven't seen the channel but it looks like a gateway to kindred collectors
