Thanks for the vid, Gary. I was inspired to download and install the Antix 23 32 bit base version on my Presario 2500. I booted live on a usb and no matter which sudo command i used it just wouldn't update the time date settings, resulting in failed expired certificates and even not updating. I installed it unto inbuilt storage but same results with package manager fetching the packages but unable to install. I know the CMOS battery on my old chugger is prolly weak, but it should get and force update system HWclock using ntpdate?! How do i get out of this imbroglio? Is Antix 23 32 bit full iso able to overcome these limitations and will it run on my single core 512 mb ram system smoothly?
My installation is very different from yours for some reason. After creating a partition, this comes up: Root partition (hda1, sda2, etc): What do I write?

IMPORTANT IF INSTALLING GRUB TO UEFI/ESP Before installing sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade This will update the gui and cli installers and bring in missing efivar and efibootmgr Alternatively, sudo apt update && sudo apt install efivar efibootmgr antiX-23.1 will have this fixed […] The solution for an installed system is to again run live from USB, and launch the Boot Repair program. You need to first “reinstall grub” and then “repair grub” (options 1 and 2). After that, the installation should be able to boot. Credit:- abc-nix from antix forum
NOTE: This was intended to be a response to ugly717's post ________________ Linux will never be idiot proof. Since the beginning of linux there has always been good utilities for troubleshooting and configuring your system. Linux also has built in utilities in the kernel and coreutils. Commands have manpages too. Antix devs provide better than average documentation. Even better they have deceloped graphical utilities for troubleshooting and configuration. Some hardware does not come with linux drivers or suppoet. Those companies usually dont provide specifications so that drivers csn be written. Still there are workarounds available for most common hardware. Most users dont need to use the command line at all to configure or troubleshoot. Antix runs on machines twenty years old. It is a huge time commitment to make drivers work for computers that are of that vintage. Support for ancient hardware is removed from the kernel at some point too. Windows cant even dream of running on systems 20 years old or that little memory. That being said Antix still runs on most machines with little or no modifications needed. Most linux distros including Antix allow you to run in live mode before installing to your hard drive to check for hardware compatibility. Antix has a forum where the devs and other users can help with support questions.
