Antlion Audio Modmic Wireless Review! Is It Worth It In Late 2023/Early 2024?

Been using a Modmic on my AKG 701s for years. Great way to use your higher end headphones as a headset.

I'm into simracing/streaming, i have a great pair of headphones and a good mic on an arm but it's so much trouble for me while fighting the wheel, i even want to try some POV footage in the future, it has to be hidden. I also own one HyperX Cloud II gaming headset. The sound is not bad at all, very light and confortable but, the mic, oh god! It's so awful even with filters on OBS. You can talk to people online but that's it. (For 70 euros it seems "normal" at least) I really think i'm going to buy this modmic despite the price, the quality seems really good for the practicality. And most gaming headsets at that price range have garbage mics anyway i think. Thanks a lot for the video, it was very helpful!

Everyone is giving this Mic good reviews, and based on those reviews I purchased one. It does sound good, and when it's up and running it is great to use. However.... the build quality is very poor, to me the stem feels like it is going to fall off and the USB dongle has already split open just after brushing against it with my hand. On top of that ever second time I use it, I have to pair the dongle and the mic again. This is especially annoying if you are getting a call and you have to reject it because they are not paired anymore. I would not recommend this mic. The build quality needs improving and the pairing needs looked at.

Does it work with planar magnetics?

I have been using it for a year after trying many others. This ModMic Wireless is the best!

They seriously need to switch to USB-C

I gotta say, I had one mod mic for 2 years before it broke, but it is worth mentioning that not all of their mics are quality. I bought one within the last year and it broke within weeks of buying and using the same way i had in the past. and the new one i have isnt much better but is still working. I do think they have started to cheap out on the quality from my experience with them

I mean. It looks like a decent product and quality seems ok and all. But really, the Price is just too crazy high. You're starting to get into semi-decent to pretty decent wireless gaming headsets for the price. Sure, most all of those gaming headsets won't have as good a quality of a MIC, but it's not like all gamers need to have the highest level broadcast quality MIC out there like this product. Plus, no USBC and (unless I missed it), no LED indicator visually on the MIC boom area to see if the thing is muted or not? Even so, it's too expensive, and it's yet another thing you have to charge for the 'wireless' capability (alongside having to charge your headset as well). The power on time also won't likely be in line with your power on time for the headset. I might bite on something like this for $60-$70. But definitely no higher than THAT.
