Thanks for sharing, the An-22 is, in my opinion, without doubt the most beautifully designed propellor freighter out there. I once saw one above my home town in the Netherlands. The Aeroflot pilot (the plane was in the former Aeroflot livery) was doing a quick turn at rather low altitude. Great memories, so thanks for reviving them! =)
Wow....love the sound of the huge turboprops...and what a sight to behold in the air! Always a fan of aircraft of any sort produced by any person or government of any country in the world.
It’s cool what the frame rate does to the double props. I was also expecting much more smoke considering the an12s, but I guess this beast is much more refined.
***** Oh-yes the KUZHENETZOV NK-12 M/A11´´ that propel the an22a BUILT 68 PLANES´´- tu-95 your-114 passengers but with pass c / a different according to greetings greetings from apodaka nl rep mexicana
Some work would be required if contra-rotation propellers we're to be put on modern aircraft, as the older Kusnetsov props were very loud. But with modern technology, it's probably possible to make a quieter turboprop engine
I don't know why they don't restart the production of this behemoth of an airplane. Put some new avionics, new engines and it'll be a beast in its class.
@@sergeyflylord If you cannot distinguish between piston and turboprop I give you some real life info An 22 is the biggest four turboprop engines plane in the world
Thanks for posting. I love those counter rotating props, they sound like...victory! Ukrainian engineers (there, not Russian!) make beautiful and amazingly engineered aircraft.
The seemingly low prop speed is a digital photography artifact. They are, in fact, probably turning at about 2000 - 2500 rpm. I learned this from having filmed my Cessna 172 from inside the cockpit, years ago, when I liked to do that kind of stuff.
Does anyone know - are there two engines driving each pair of contra-rotating props (like the Fairey Gannet and the Brabazon) or is it one engine per pod, driving the two propellers via gearing?
This aircraft has two props on each engine that are counter rotating. It's funny how the 60 cycle flicker of the computer or TV screen creates optical illusions of the props going slow or backwards.
Some years ago I believe I heard one of these flying over southern England at night. I can't think what else makes that distinctive multiple contra-prop sound, seeing as there's been no flying Shackletons for years and one would hope a Tu95 wouldn't be allowed to get so close to London.
Amazing to think it has a hidden jet engine on its belly which provides all the thrust, the propellers are only used in emergencies hence you cant see them spinning on take off. The russians were clearly very saftey conscious
Cet appareil m' a toujours impressionné! j' Ai eu de la chance de le voir de près qui plus est d' avoir monter à bord. Je suis un petit poisson dans le ventre une énorme baleine, pour moi c' est un avion extraordinaire et magnifique!!!
Even if commercially those Russian airplanes are not as successfull as the ones of the west (for various political or business reasons) or now a bit obsolete , Russia should really be proud of any of there technical/engeneering achievements, presents and past!
It is not, Antonov was USSR design bureau and paid for by the Russians. Without Russia, there won't be any Antonov. Ukraine got to keep Antonov factory because USSR made them there and after the collapse it stayed in Ukraine.
Two props on each engine that are counter rotating. The 60 cycle flicker of the computer screen creates optical illusion, of the props gong slow and backwards.
About those props. I am assuming the that we are seeing distinct images of props which are apparently moving slowly because of the frame rate of your digital camera, and that is why we do not see a blur instead of discrete propellers??
Ian McKay. Not exactly. Just saying we notice more because contra allows for rpms not typically seen. Maybe I am wrong, but I think it is the props that are special and not the camera.
The Convair B36 had a wingspan of 230' 4 jet engines 6 piston engines, check it out.See the film Srategic Air Command. They used to fly over my parents house when I was a kid.You could hear them coming abort ten minutes before they came into view. They were high up, they moved so slow but the drone from the piston engines would shake the house has I stood frozen to the spot.
Exactly. This Soviet aircraft. Russia is the successor of the USSR according to the law, and it is written in the Constitution. So the aircraft is now in fact, it can be considered Russian. Ukrainian there is nothing there. At a time when created the An-22, a country like Ukraine did not exist, and therefore its aviation industry. Although. But this board, Ukrainian.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video, indeed it is a beautiful cargo plane. Does anyone knows how many were built and how many of them are still in service.
Thanks for watching, and commenting! 68 An-22 were build in total. Only one is in commercial service operated by the ukrainian Antonov airlines, and a handful with the Russian Air Force.
