As the owner of multiple trucks , this makes me cringe! An old man once told me as we were talking about multiple rigs, he said “ son let me tell you something about a driver. A driver don’t want nothing, but the driver don’t want you to have nothing either”. God it’s so true, all this guy had to do was pull forward at the very beginning, reset up the turn and NOT tear the bumper up on the truck and probably not even tear up the grass.
I agree 47 seconds into the video any experienced driver "oversize load or even just a tractor trailer driver" can see he has a ton more room to play with just in to position of the trailer. It was nice of the driver to offer the company to pay for his mistakes. Not saying the guy should lose his job but bonuses or the repairs of the bump and repairs to 2 yards would be on him to fix. I mean come on a simple pull up and slide over 3 feet to the driver side and he could've avoided any damage at all.
Tough spot. Being there was no traffic he should have worked at it longer. Trying to get back under it sooner he would have had trouble with the mail box area.
Ego wise, I think some guys think it's worse to start over than just make what you started work. There was obviously a lot more room to play with. If he's a good employee and this is rare for him I don't think he should have to pay for it, everyone screws up once in a while.
Not trying to be an armchair quarterback, but, i would have just did a pull up and started over on the set up, or dropped the trailer right there and squared up. However every driver does it differently. And those little tricks and short cuts come with experience. He handled himself very professionally, cuz that situation right there can make you see red and make you just want to drove over everything. Much respect to this guy. Nice job.
@@matthewwalden656 okay 👌🏼 I never said that driver was a total fool. You did. He handled himself very professionally imo. What exactly are you saying?
If he had dropped the trailer. Turned the tractor around. Then backed straight into the trailer re hooking it. The yard and truck would not have been at risk. Best Wishes! M.H.
@@mahbubmo before he started his turn, he should have gotten out and looked. I would have walked down the street and seen if it was possible to back down empty or walk the machine out.
Best way to learn is to bump that head a few times. Having said that, I don't think I would have tried pushing sod with the bumper. He will have to learn to use all the real estate available BEFORE starting the turn, pull waaay past the turn and then jack knife back to the turn. My Dad told me a long time ago "whatever you do, do it on the asphalt " No truer words have been spoken. Being on company property and hard ground is a different matter and every job is different
Real good of him to offer to have the yard fixed but it looked like he didn’t have the pivot point of the trailer axles close enough to the corner as he was turning it
Forget the criticism, these are all just keyboard warriors, if they were professionals they would hardly have time to watch youtube videos and write stupid comments, on youtube others always know everything better, if they were in a truck for once in their lives there would be a lot to laugh at
He should have hugged the Sign & Fire Hydrant as close as Possible when backing out. Risking A LOT of Damage to Property and a Truck. A lot of different things could have been done such as Flip that 4th Axle Up, to to make that Trailer 5’ Shorter and then Flip it Down, with the Excavator Boom when on the Road. Given how small that Excavator is (Cat 326F), I don’t know why he even has that 4th Rear Trailer Axle Down for that Small of a Load anyways. Either way I don’t believe he should have Risked Damaging Private Property without Permission for that Load. I do Respect the Offer to Fix the Yard and Make it Right, cause he HAD To. He almost had to Call a Rotator Wrecker to get him out of that Mess. It was going to Cost a Few Thousand Dollars Regardless whether it was a Fixed Yard or a Wrecker. Not Much Profit Left in that Load, by the Time it’s All Said and Done.
I'm not a truck driver, though I have trailer experience, it seems to he should started his backup turn sooner. That would have put him farther away from the corner he dug into.
Yeah, but he jacked the bumper up, too. He should have kept the left side trailer tandems closer to the curb when backing out. If you can go in without messing anything up, you can go out without messing anything up. Gotta be patient and follow the trailer out.
I was watching this video and then my neighbour came and we watched it together. He said that this video changed his life and touched his heart. I then went and rented a projector in a big field and all my villagers watched it and it changed their lives too. We all are so grateful. Thank you for this video!
I’ve been driving for 30yrs, doubles and oversized loads, and I’ve NEVER unhooked my trailers to get me out of a jam. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. It’s called common sense and talent, both of which this guy has NONE!😂✌️
This driver deserves a metal not only for the skillful driving but confronting the home owner afterwards..what a good driver even though he screwed up he want to get everything sorted out before he leaves and today there is not many drivers like this 😢
Dang ! I didn’t do that good on my first try, but I did get better at it as time went by. Ain’t no substitute for experience, and practice makes perfect . When ever I did come in from wherever and hit the dock first try; wasn’t anyone around to see it 🤨🥴😂
I didn't see him goal once. 😢 if he would have just pulled forward and corrected his angle he would have been fine. 39 years in NYC made me pretty good at backing up
Yes sir., as a home daily company driver with 10 years exp., who drags 53’ boxes around, I know my limitations!, I would love to be trained for this kind of work, the biggest challenge on the road!
Question, at 00:43, would it have been possible or safe to get out and drop that huge lowboy trailer, and move the tractor in front of it, and get rolling?
Definitely should've been 3-4' over to his left and started his turn when the trailer wheels were 5' ahead of the sign. Would've avoided all that mess. Good on him for not just taking off though.
It happens, been there and have had to make the walk of shame up to the door and do the same thing lol, what’s ur name and number so I can tell my boss I fckd up ur yard 😂😂😂 that sucks, but sometimes it’s all you can do. Least he didn’t just drive off.
Dude started off good, after that idk wtf was he thinking. He could have easily dumped last axle, and use the tarmac driveway across the road to get a better steering angle on his truck
Dude I was saying the exact same thing.... jocky the trailer a few times to get close to the stop sign (hell tap if you have to it's a dam sign) aim TOWARDS that driveway on that off side, follow it around with the driver side of the trailer pushing back across the line as you get under it, pop some gears and come on to the yard....
About 17 seconds into the video, I would have stopped and pulled forward and repositioned the trailer to hug more towards the stop sign. It might have taken a few tries but I think I could have saved the yards
What you all probably didn't realize is he was bringing that excavator there to do some Landscaping but he figured out a way to do landscape job without even unloading the excavator.
I can hear my grandfather's screaming in my ear right now if the longer trailer was able to go around the corner then explain to me why you couldn't get a shorter truck around the corner.
Driver needed to use that other side road back there, he should of tried to get that trailer at a angle more so he could push it back to that other connecting road. He still did amazing tho
Daaang, after reading some of the comments, dude shoulda just said to heck fire wit it and dropped the whole dang trailer right there and just head to the house! Call it a day and had a 13 pack. Lol
Everybody is talking about the driver but hey let's give the homeowner some credit for not being a KAREN and understanding that playas fuk up too.. any hooting and hollering would have just made it harder on the driver and potentially outcome even worse..SO TO THE HOMEOWNER... BIG FAT THANKS TO U AND UR UNDERSTANDING AND #1 UR PATIENCE SIR..
I do it everyday bud… he would have sucked close to the inner side of the road and swung earlier … also chased it sooner not only did he fu k the yard up he wrecked the bumper and two fenders … easily over 5 k in Damages done here not including labor on fixing it all
@@movingearth3726 : well bud I do too. I didn’t watch the whole video. I got the gist of what happened. Like I said he fucked up most of the comments are from people who don’t drive a truck.
I would have fired him as soon as he appeared at the yard. Should not be doing that type work. And as a qualifier for all you, I have owned a small fleet and done some rough ass trucking in some rough country. That was stupid!!
@@cottonwood4935 : oh yes. I also have owned a small fleet. Now I do it myself, then there’s nobody to blame or fire or clean up after. I pull the Michigan doubles that gross out at 164,000 and above if you can get away with it. Plus I’ve pulled lowboy equipment a bunch of my life.
Originally looking at the thumb nail I figured this was just a guy complaining about a heavy truck trying to get out of a bad situation…. Well I’m my opinion that 4 axle trailer should never be damn near 90 degrees loaded… he could’ve definitely avoided this with less angle… the trailer had a crap ton of room to eventually come around.
Being a trucker for 16 years I know most truckers have gotten themselves into a pickle. Best thing to do is just relax and look at your best option for getting out of the situation. I think if this driver would have gotten the rear of the trailer over and kept it tight to the left he'd been better off . Just my opinion. He did good, didn't get stuck and didn't have to call a wrecker. If the boss man can afford that rig and excavator the damage to the yard is no big deal.
I want to do over size and even me barely driving 3 years. i know if you can go in without hitting anything or in this case driving on someone's yard. You can do the same getting out its all about SET UP
Never learn if you don't try, I've escorted and assisted into some tight residents before....only once we had to walk the machine about a mile from main road l...(const road washed out)....everyone blames the driver instead of the dipshit who wanted to build in unchartered territory or in already high volume/ high capacity areas...good work driver not tearing up $600,000 worth of equipment vs $1000 sod job
it was "site-side" backing as well and he did AWEFULL.!! imagine how worse it would have been backing to blind side???. dangerous for other drivers if he gets all that weight moving at hiway speeds.
To me, he needed to chase a little bit more that trailer to have more room for those steers turning to the left so he had the chance to put it straight...
He wasn’t making a blind side turn he just didn’t take the time to do it right. Any cost for yard repairs and truck repair is solely his responsibility
Only reason the driver got out and got the homeowner name & number is because the homeowner was standing there filming the whole thing. If not for that, the driver would have kept on truckin' 100%
