What you’re accomplishing looks like a dream to me. I’ve been agoraphobic for 18 years, and I am unable to get hoke than 20 miles from my house. Lately, I’ve been taking drives almost everyday. If people didn’t post their successes, I wouldn’t believe that it’s possible to break the spell. You’re truly an inspiration.

I would love to keep hearing more about your progress. Taking a drive everyday is bloody huge and I have every belief in you that you will take greater and greater strides. ❤❤

Driving is such a big step! That's where I am right now - mostly driving around to at least get out of the house. With covid stages here is hard to get around to actually do exposure therapy safely.

The fact that you had severe agoraphobia and are now in a different country is amazing and really makes me have hope. I am 17 years old and I've been struggling with panic attacks for 2 years, specifically severe agoraphobia for about 1 year. I have lost so much of my teen life to anxiety and I'm sick of it, I just want to live and not worry about it anymore but it has become so debilitating to the point where I can't leave 1 mile away from home. My parents also stopped believing me and think I'm faking for attention, so now I'm in this journey alone which scares me.

Thank you soooo much for this video. You don't know how much I needed to hear this today. My journey with agoraphobia started in April this year after I had a panic attack miles away from home in the car on a motorway. I couldn't get home and it terrified me. I've been unable to leave my house ever since. I can walk to the end of my street right now but that's it. I've been in some really low points over the last six months, some days I just wanted to end it. But I have two sons who are 6 and 8 who need their mammy. I will fight this for them! Thank you again for showing me that I can get better, it'll just take time. ❤

Im sitting on my couch right now watching your video in tears! Ive just cancelled a pilates class and I'm feeling so disappointed in myself. Ive suffered with anxiety all my life due to childhood trauma. I'd have phases of anxiety in the past but always be able to just wake up one morning and it would be gone and I'd be able to live my life again. But for the past 3 weeks I've fallen into this hole of not wanting to leave the house and being completely overwhelmed when out at the shops, or in the car, or even just going for a walk. I took notes from Claire Weekes book - Hope and Help for your nerves as well as listening to The Anxiety Guy about surrendering and exploring the feeling, instead of being afraid and avoiding it just flow with it. This is something I mentally really really struggle to understand and give myself permission to do. Even though I take notes of how to do it I still feel like I need a dummy guide on how to do it. Thank you for posting this video 😭 I really hope I'm able to get control of this soon as I don't want to have to live like this for months and years 😔

Sending you so much love!! It is really, really hard dealing with the disappointment, and also giving yourself permission to let anxiety and fear float around through you. It certainly goes against what we feel we have to do - which is fight it, overcome it, or suppress it in some way. It takes a lot of practice and patience! The best way I've found on learning how to get through is to be led by your heart. Oftentimes our body will react with fear, and our mind will follow suit. It becomes difficult to know what action to take (if any) because it feels like there's a small war going on within! In those moments, see if you can find a little bit of space to tune in to what your heart wants. I pretty much always find that my heart says, 'keep going! I've got you!' even when my body is seemingly saying 'I'm freaking out!'. Try not to focus so much on control and instead look towards letting go, if you can!

I just got diagnosed with Agoraphobia with Panic Disorder two months ago and it feels permanent until moments like these videos hearing your stories and other peoples stories that gives me the motivation to keep trying to get back out even if it’s a mile down the road and to be able to take care of a puppy one day. Thank you for inspiring me. ❤❤❤❤

This one really hit me. I’ve been watching your videos for awhile and I’ve had so many ups and downs and just to know that you were also completely house bound at one point too and now you’re out seeing these beautiful places gives me hope. Most days I just can’t see it but knowing that it’s possible helps so much. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Thanks Cassie! It is a journey that sometimes feels more like going in a circle, but then one day it all seems to open up. I think the nature of anxiety can often make us feel like nothing is possible (survival instinct's favourite tape to play 😅) but we are always much more capable than we give ourselves credit for. I'd love it if you would keep me updated on your journey. ❤️

The last time I watched your videos you were struggling with going on drives, and now look at you! You go girl:) I was never officially diagnosed with agoraphobia but at its worst that's what it was. Although my anxiety has improved a lot, being in really rural areas, hiking, mountain biking is still very difficult for me. I just want to go see my brother who lives 5 hours away. But it's so scary. Thank you for helping me feel not so alone.
@LaurenRose.
@LaurenRose. 2 года назад
Aww thank you, Zoe!! You are most certainly not alone. I do still struggle with hiking and being rural but for the most part I try to focus on the exploration/adventure factor, and that usually helps. Keep me updated - I bet you won't be far off going to visit your brother, maybe it would help to spend some time everyday thinking about what it will feel like when you get there? ❤️

Thank you for posting this video. I've been kinda in a slump with working with my agoraphobia. It just feels so much more comfortable just being at home. But then I want to go to a store and I can't and it is so frustrating. This video has inspired to keep trying. It may not be perfect but it's good to keep trying.
@LaurenRose.
@LaurenRose. 2 года назад
I had so many slumps. Correction - hAVE so many slumps. I think it’s normal. And it is so much more comfortable in our comfort zone and it’s ok to stay there for a little bit, but I think the longer we let ourselves do that, the more we feel like we don’t have our own back. Keep trying, whatever that looks like. Any movement is better than none at all!

I feel apathetic in my recovery currently. I am now able to live a pretty much normal, functioning life within a certain radius of my home, but I have reached a stalemate in wanting to push myself further out of my comfort zone. I dont fear my panics really anymore when I am in my comfort zone, but I feel stuck amd reluctant to move myself forward into the next phase of recovery; going places, doing things, getting on public transport, getting my license ect.

Wow look at you!!!!! My get out there moment is an MRI scan tomorrow - 40 minutes in the tube but luckily only a 10 minute drive from my house. For some reason seeing that clip of you in the kayak I think will help me. No bathrooms on a kayak! If you can do that, I can be across the hall from a bathroom in a dumb tube for awhile. :)

hi again, i wondered if you'd tried propranolol? i am asking because you are the only person I know with similar anxiety to mine. it was suggested. thought I might try it. Not sure if its good on the 'brain/gut' type of anxiety
@LaurenRose.
@LaurenRose. 2 года назад
Hi sweetheart! I have not tried propranolol, so I'm not too sure. I do know of a few people who have had great success with Beta Blockers (I believe instagram.com/grazingpanda/ Grazing Panda on IG is one of them!) so always worth a shot.

What about the toilet during plane takeoff and landing and immigration lineups? How did you do it?
@LaurenRose.
@LaurenRose. 2 года назад
It really wasn't bad at all! The lines were very small, we barely had to wait...the only time i struggled on the flight was the domestic flight between christchurch and queenstown on a small plane. Ultimately though, I just went when I needed to go and kept telling myself that whatever happened, it meant nothing about my worth as a person.
