james thats a great informative video - just the kind of thing id want to see if i was looking to buy a hammer. its great to be talked through the operating in a simple way. for anyone reading the posts, i have an anyang 25kg hammer, and i have found it to be such a brilliant tool! it does everything i need it to do easily and quickly, and actually ive only scraped the surface in terms of what it could do. if any usa smiths are looking to buy a power hammer, i can personally vouch for the fantastic customer service from james and his father steve, when james says he is on the end of the phone, he really means it!!
Hello James awesome Channel I had a quick question about power hammers I was considering purchasing one and was wondering are there any models with built in chairs, as my legs get very tired while I blacksmith. Thankyou
I'm glad someone else asked about this. I've been designing modifications to my current power hammer to accommodate seating. Are there any models on the market equipped with chairs??
Hi James, Is tuning an issue. There must be a timing realationship between the top value and bottom valve. I heard it was set in the factory, but what if is is messed up? how could we tell?
A friend of mine has two hammers and none of those have any zergs, we were looking everywhere. The manual says there are 3, a sticker on the outside of the hammer says it has 2. We looked inside and outside. No grease zergs, no drill holes, no threads. Does anyone know, if the bearings even still need to be greased regularly?
Possibly. They have a 3 hp 1800 rpm single phase motor. If you think the motor has enough torque/power and can get the correct speed through possibly a "jack shaft" similar setup you could run the hammer. There is a fellow in Australia running the hammer off a 4 stroke Honda engine.
Hi James,Can you tell me why the smaller hammers seem to have an oil line only to the compressor side of the machine and the larger ones have an additional line to the ram side? Thanks
On all of the new hammers, there is only one oil line and that goes to the compressor (rear side) of the hammer. If the compressor is getting enough oil, that oil will naturally flow to the front ram side of the hammer. This is a change that we made in early 2016.
James do you have an email I can use to ask you a few questions. I want to get an understanding of what type of electrical power source I'll need in my shop to power up an Anyang. I am getting closer to being able to purchase and want to get shop prepped for it.
Eric, you can email me at usaforging@gmail.com You can also check out my website at www.anyangusa.net where I have a lot of information on electrical requirements and specifications, etc. I will help you any way I can. James
I do not advertise or market this as a single blow hammer like a Massey hammer. Some people say they can get single blows as they get used to the operation of the hammer.
The factory has measurements for each size hammer in Joules. There are so many factors that determine forging capability of any power hammer. Aside from the Joules measurement, I encourage customers to get behind a hammer and try tapering a piece of work close to what they would be forging in their shop. I do have a series of video's on my website where I try to show forging capabilities of the various size hammers.
