Making stock microphone more sensitive. Easy to do and it makes microphone more powerful. I couldn't believe that manufacturer made whole where microphone is sitting behind so small. Worked for me. Do it at your own risk. 73

Forgot to mention that covered the hole from the inside with a thin piece of foam from an old airline headphone. Looked really professional... pleased with it.

Great work. Thanks for sharing! On my CRT M-7 I did another modification instead. Using a baffle behind the big mic front grill. This sounds great and does not affect audio quality due to the big front grill (in German it's called "Mikrofongrill", so I hope the translation is correct to call it a "mic grill" on English as well!?). Just removed the foam. Then I used 2 washers (d= 30mm with a drill hole of d = 6mm in the middle, both stucked with some drops of superglue). I needed to use an electret capsule with d=6mm due to its height. A normal electret capsule with d=10mm would be slight to high and might be stuck to the PCB above it. vy 73, Jochen, 13OP25

This mod with the washers i do always on electret Stock Mikes (Albrecht, Stabo, President, Team, CRT, etc.) Works very well and the modulation increases a lot !!!

Same radio or for different one, Big improvement ?? I saw about 40% increase in sensitivity with my 5555.

@@myszaca I live in Belgium and here in Europe the make isn't Anytone, but CRT (F). The model is the 7900V. (Looks the same as yours...) I use a +/-200cm Sirio 5000 whip antenna up on top of our chimney. My house is up on a small hill. I think this helps. The unit is my first SSB. And I find it well made. Very good sensitivity. Very good selectivity. VERY nice big screen Concerning the difference you asked about, I stupidly forgot to measure before so as to compare with after. Sooo... I looked at the power level after and it's my impression that when I speak the transmission level IS higher, as it went several degrees higher, like over to the 60-80 w mark. I will see in the little radio club later. We use USB and I'm going to be interested. To me, you idea to modify the mike is "risk free" because, say it has as secondary problem, well I'd just re-open the mike, carefully fill in the hole with, epoxy or hot glue, and re-drill a teeney-weeny hole again.

@@PeterJavea Very nice. I think it will work better for sure. If it's to strong then lower sensitivity of the microphone in radio and no need to cover the whole and redrill. I know CRT radios. My friend from Michigan area is importing some of them from KPO company. CRT, Anytone,Striker company is using same boards but they customizing radios to there taste. Very good radios, the best one I ever had for 11 meters. I got powered KPO microphone for this radio also and it works very well with it. To bad that I am in West Coast, I can't get skip to Europe so I want be able to reach you over the air. let me know after couple days or weeks how you like this 🎤 after this mod. 73 for now.

I did this mod on a stock mic Anytone 5555nii and according to 5 locals that I talk to they said no change in modulation. I also have a brand new Anytone mic and the modded Anytone mic to swap out to compare and they reported couldn't tell any difference. I didn't notice and difference in the meter reading either.
@myszaca
@myszaca 9 месяцев назад
For me sensitivity changed after the mod not the loudness of the modulation on the receiver side. Instead of talking very close I can keep the microphone a little farther and get the same results. For more aggressive and with higher tones modulation I use a handheld KPO microphone. 73.

I did this about 25 years ago on a Icom Mic. Made no difference. But you also have to enlarge the hole on the mic face to. Because there is where it is being restricted no inside. It made my mic pick up more background noise and in a truck it was very bad. Akso you might want to put a small piece of foam over the inside to prevent dust and spit from entering. In my case it did bring up the audio but not that much, All in All it wasn't worth it.

Just saw this video and my drill battery is now on charge.... My manual states the mic type as DY, which is different than how the radio was received - EL. Anyone notice the same "misprint" and what are others seeing on their mic setting??? Reply's will be welcome.. Thanks

Not sure what would happen, I guess trying is only the way to know what will happen. Not sure if bigger microphone would need different voltage or not. got it, I did that with a KPO hand held microphone because it came with 6 pin at the end and I used the original 🎤 cable with rj-45 and swapped it. I think they sale RJ-45 cables without anything at the end. or use adapter rj-45 to 4 or 6 pin. What desktop microphone do you want to use with Anytone 5555N II.

Thanks for sharing your mic modification. So does this mod do anything for the pop that these mics are prone to? This style of microphone from anytone is known for the awful pop if you don't speak across the element hole. 73 from Texas

That I don't know, For sure got more sensitive. I used that mic for 2 weeks and then I got KPO mic. I never had anyone telling me that they here something weard with stock mic. Not sure what the pop is coming from, side spring makes some crick noise but pop noise is new to me. Maybe someone else will know something about this issue after this mod. I can connect that mic again to my radio and check it with talk back function, is that something that would help you to see. Try the mod maybe, let me know.73

i did this mod and after i just used some high fidelity pro audio headphones pluged into the ext speaker jack [used a mono to stereo adapter for L and R sound] well any ways disocovered the audio sounds very dull, essentially there no highs, i have bear cat 880 and the mic sounds crystal clean, while this mic sounds like the treble is turned to max negative, my question is, there away to adjust the "tone" aka add trebble to mic input, I ask because of the button that says "tone" however when i press tone, it gives me echo , and tone and echo are not the same, makes think there is a tone feature burried in the menu somewhere.
@myszaca
@myszaca Год назад
I only used that microphone with my At5555 and I don't here any big issue with the sound. sounds like a stock microphone but more sensitive after the mod, I don't have any adjustments in that radio to change sound of 🎤 like you would with audio corrector etc. Not sure if I got this question right but I never had cb or 10m radio with the option to correct 🎤 base,mids, heights etc. That would be nice 😆. I know those microphones have capacitor inside and maybe changing the capacitor to a different value would change the pitch. Not sure what that capacitor does in this one. 🤔. maybe we need to Google that 😂.

Does this mod give the same performance or close too as the KPO mic?
@myszaca
@myszaca Год назад
It's more sensitive but I think KPO microphone it's a different animal. I used original microphone with that mode for some time till I saved money for KPO and now I am running KPO in both my radios. KPO has more pronounced/vibrant sound output compare to oryginal which is more on flat side if you know what I mean, at least that's what I think. Mod takes 10 minutes to do so I did it and shared it.

I did the same mod to a microphone that comes with the stryker 94hpc it's the same microphone with up and down buttons on top. Once you remove the front grill and the board you realize the microphone is almost completely blocked iam thinking it must be really sensitive. I drilled the hole from inside out same size and I ended up removing the front like you showed and placed a piece of light cloth between the front grill and the body of the microphone thanks again for posting your original mod 73's.

This microphone just sucks - they just sound dull and muffled no matter what you do with them. It's a real shame since you can change the channels with it, but the sound is awful - honestly, you'd be way better off getting an adapter for it and using something like an Astatic mic or something similar.
