I flew NZ2 in April. Left Auckland in pouring rain (the tail edge of Cyclone Debbie) In the dark all the way across the Pacific and straight into LA from the sea approach. After taking off from LA into cloud in 30 seconds followed by the night and cloud all the way to London. Broke cloud just two minutes before touchdown at LHR. So my 24 hours I Air New Zealand ZK-OKS B777ER. So my 23 hours Auckland to London was a bit disappointing from seeing the world at 33,000 ft.

That is a great video. I went on Zk Okp, 3 times. I as the hobbit. 2 as silver fern. Good job on having ATC in the video. And the engine start up and takeoff were great.

Thanks! Was a very cloudy day. The start of the high altitude stratus layer started around FL250 near Cardiff and was there in London too. I love cloud skimming - so it was perfect for me!

Brilliant video. I enjoyed every minute :) . Some questions you've not listed in the description. -Do you know the TOW? -And do you know your flap setting on take off?

Nope - I would have asked some technical info, but the crew were already out of the flight deck when I asked to go in. The Captain kindly went back in with me quickly though. TOW for this flight is normally around 320t I'd imagine. Flap setting was 15.

If you book the trip out far into the future the prices really go down. Most of the cost comes from taxes and airport fees from 2 different countries :-/. I visited London in 2009, I would recommend it.

In June you should get around two/three hours of light. Then probably sunrise mid Atlantic! In the winter like the video - it's mostly night.

FANTASTIC video! I'll fly in September to Papeete, so after looking this video and reading the descriptions I prefer now the westbound lag with NZ via LAX alternative eastbound KE via ICN wirh A380 ;-) Is a seat reservation by flight booking possible?

+10Exahertz you probably dont have to get into the flight deck, a radio reciver that capable for the VHF could do the job in flight once you know the frequency, dont know if they are belong to transmiting device or not.

Brian Airbus Flightaware is often wrong because they can't publish every flight plan. This is a 300ER, trust me.

Why not fly AA to LHR? Why would Air New Zealand fly lax-lhr? don't you have to connect in Auckland?

Because ANZ connect via LAX from Auckland to Heathrow. You can book either leg, not only both. Normally only about half the pax are doing the entire two legs.

+No Rulz (advent) This flight NZ 2 goes from Auckland to Los Angeles then onto Heathrow. The return Heathrow flight NZ1 does the reverse. Air NZ also flies additional return flights from Auckland to Los Angeles and vice versa. Only NZ 1 and 2 do both legs ie Auckland Los Angeles Heathrow

How about carrying a Portable Aircraft RAdio or Sporty's Pilot Shop HAnd Held Aviaiton Walkie talkies to listen to the ATC communications, would this be allowed ? Aircraft radios are designed not to cause Any interferencea,as they are used as an Emergency aircraft radio falilure back uo stand by unit. So the Flight attendants message has some nit tru scenarios. The commenter is an experinced Private pilot since 1973. An an Avionics tech and Used and New Aircraft radios seller on E-BAy.

No it wouldn't, because they operate on specific frequencies. They are sometimes monitored by the FAA and other international government administrations. Walkie-Talkies only operate completely separate channels depending on their range.

I cannot understand why airlines operating such long flights have a 3-4-3 configuration in a 777 when they claim to strive for passenger comfort. Emirates do the same. BA has 3-3-3 configuration as it should be! Money isn't everything!
