Ok. Since this comment seems to be getting some attention I am going to elaborate to make it a little bit more than just an argument from authority. Engineering is a really complex subject which contains pretty much all of physics, chemistry, mathematics, economics, programming etc. Even less obvious subjects like biology and history come into play and of course politics and law are hugely important as well. Obviously, no one person could ever hope to learn all that which means engineers are very much focused on their particular topics at which they specialized, and they only really master the related parts from all other disciplines. You do not „try your hand as a solar plant engineer“. You either are one or you are not. I could not make one. I could tell you if it would make profit or not (with some risk of me being wrong) and I could tell you whether it is possible to connect it into the grid at the location where you want to build it, but I could not build one. Some of my classmates probably could build a small off-grid plant but that’s it. Because even if solar power is your specialization in college there is a separation between published engineering which is a science and the reality of engineering as a job in the commercial world. When it comes to designing real complex things like power plants, lot of the knowledge is either proprietary know-how or the unpublished collective experience of the people who actually make them for a living. That is why even most people with actual degrees in electrical engineering or even specifically in power engineering could not just drop in. It simply doesn’t work that way.

@cj p The problem with electricity isn't production, it's storage. Batteries are GOD FUCKING AWFUL at storing electricity. The reason fossil fuels and nuclear are so great for producing electricity is that they store energy not electricity. They match production to meet demand, which is only possible with a VERY reliable source. You can't match wind and solar to large scale demand because we have no control over the energy supply. Till we develop capacitors that can basically function as giant buckets of electricity, energy sources like solar and wind will always be niche pipe dreams. When it's possible to make an electric car that can be refilled in 5 mins, then we can retire the internal combustion engine.

By the laws of thermodynamics, it takes more energy to capture the carbon than can be released by burning it again. And how do we power these devices? By burning coal in power plants. In total they are producing more carbon than they capture. Carbon capture will only make sense when we produce most energy by actual green technology, like nuclear.
