i had this done 15 years ago,the doctor told me at the time it would be better for me to do it or i won't last too long,so i decided to do it,i'm living a normal life now,i'm a truck driver, only i have to take the pills the doctor prescribed me,and i see with the doctor twice at year,so whoever read this post and need to do it,don't be afraid, you won't feel a thing until you wake up in bed hours later feeling better already.

I had this done back in May, i'm now 7 weeks post op and feeling great!I feel almost back to normal now but better because my heart isn't thumping hard like it used to and I don't have this "doomed feeling" I used to have before the surgery. trust me if you're watching this video because you have to get it done you will be fine! the worst part of it is the time leading up to surgery. once you wake up and it's all over you'll feel a tremendous weight off your shoulders.

I'm two weeks into cardiac rehab now and anticipate getting back to work (I'm a music teacher) next month. Have had a few minor setbacks but nothing huge. Best choice I've ever made for myself. A girl I had met in the area where I live had open heart valve replacement surgery a few weeks after me and after 3-4 weeks, she was back to work again! Her job is a desk job I believe but I was so surprised she was cleared so soon, and so proud of her progress. I was in the hospital for 10 days; she was only in for 3. I also had some complications and ended up in a-fib, so I'm on some meds now to regulate that.

Nice video. I had my aorta and aortic valve replaced in January after living 55 years with a bicuspid aortic valve. The aorta was replaced because of an 11 cm (4.25 in) aneurism. I also had to have my pulmonary artery repaired during the surgery, which lasted 17 hours. If it hadn't been diagnosed when it was, I might not be making comments on RU-vid. :-)

Thanks a lot for this very interessting animation. My date of operation will be next week on 18 april but it's not the valve to be changed, it's the aneurysm of the aorta, measured 5,4cm in cause of a bicuspid valve. I will keep this valve for the next 15y but for now, the procedure will be similar with one difference, the cutting will be "minimal invasiv" only 8-10cm.

I was diagnosed at birth with bi cuspid aortic stenosis. Now at 40 I just had my mechanical valve put in 6 weeks ago. Honestly my heart has never felt so strong. Can wait to get back to a normal life. Only down fall is that I can hear my valve open and close. So I feel like the crocodile on Peter pan. Lol

I had a bicuspid valve as well......It was only opening up about a half inch and wasn't closing all the way. I had my aortic valve replaced with a "pig" valve 3 years ago and am doing great! I'll be 70 soon.

Follow the advice of your cardiologist and surgeon. It's unlikely that valve replacement will be done quite the same way in 15-20 years as it is now.

I wonder if I have any heart issues no one has diagnosed me how does that work with major infections like undiagnosed hep c hpv or hiv? I suppose they do testing prior to surgery I guess Would breast cancer complicate this procedure?

I have a sclerotic aortic valve leaflets, mild mitral valve regurgitation, mild tricuspid valve regurgitation, and afib. Several doctors have told me I'm not sick enough to need treatment. What would you tell your patient if they were me?

i have mild regurgitation on my aortic valve after receiving a mechanical replacement 3 years ago. went to get a EET exam. the one where they shove a camera and ultra sound device down your throat and esophagus to take a picture of your heart, the back of it. well something happened during the operation. i was just about as conscious as i am here and now speaking to you (stupid high tolerant to opioids, even the fentanyl) and there was a moment they dropped a device and everyone in the room gasped, froze and stared me right in the eyes. mouths gaped open an everything!! i didnt ask them wth was that, but i can still remember everyones face in the room . this was in march of 22. so my cardiologist deemed the operation necessary to get a better picture and more data regarding the regurgitation but this minor op caused some serious damage. im on blood thinners due to my mechanical valve, as i mentioned, and so any internal bleeding is cause for extreme concern. death is highly probable if the bleeding is excessive enough and in the proper wrong spot. so ive been to the ER three times since the operation, and it wasnt until the third i put two and two together. because i was under a lot of fent during the operation, (they made sure to indicate in their report, that instead of the typical single dose of 1mg fent, i required 7 doses of 1mg. along with the propofol and etizolam) i hadnt really made it a point to ask my GP afterwards if anything bad went down and did they write it in there. ill spare typing out the symptoms i had at home which motivated me to get to the ER, mostly chest pain and profuse sweating, but the tests indicated i didnt have blood in my lungs and so the internal bleeding wasnt an immediate cause of concern. but the ultra sound results were ostensibly nothing positive or negative, just told us what we already know. i guess its a good thing because it couldve indicated that the regurgitation upgraded from mild to moderate. im telling you all this because im trying to say, i regret getting the operation done. it caused more damage and did more negative than positive. it was the only way to tell if any regurgitation had begun behind my heart, and on a separate valve than where it was previously, on the aortic. so that is one way to look at it. i will never get another one done, (eet exam). if i start getting more similar symptoms ill just ask for antibiotic and fight it, and then go from there. they not only almost killed me thru internal bleeding, but they didnt tell me or evidently write it down in the report. thats insane. they took the time to (almost sarcastically) write how high of an opioid tolerance i have, as they mentioned it was the highest they ever provided to a patient in this type of exam. for whatever reason that is. my GP had a little chuckle at it, like how funny, you are a drug addict, require more meds than an elephant . (im not) , if anyone has gone thru the things ive gone through they would require the same if not more meds i am on. i learned right that day, how risky everything is in the medical industry . especially operations and surgeries. you are at the mercy of everyone in that room. if they dont like you , for whatever reason, or having a bad day, etc, one small slip up and thats it , your gone. and not even quick and under sedation, long slow, agonizing, without an understanding of why, or how, when. they are people just like anyone with faults and flaws, and for that i dont blame them. but sometimes we put too much faith and trust in those same people.. its their jobs, day in, day out. they can get jaded. they can get complacent they can get ignorant or negligent. in a blink of an eye too. just recently in the canadian news there is reports of a doctor who is being charged with 3 murders. of his patients, all elderly. i havent read much into it because i had read my share of doom news for the day/week. but going to follow up. when the nurse was looking for a vein prior to the operation after minutes of not finding anything plausible and two major misses. (ones i told her are not going to work) , i dont have many, only a couple left in my foot, and i cant afford to lose those two incase of emergencies. a third nurse who was proclaimed to be an expert at locating and successfully connecting an IV in "difficult patients" was invited into the OR and she looked around at my arms for a bit and said she enjoyed this part of her job very much. "Shopping for veins" was the exact quote. "to pay in blood"......🤕🤒😓

My cousin got his aortic and mitral valves replaced when he was 19. They both had to be replaced or he would die. He also had heart failure and that’s why they had to replace the valves.
