:) It's not only me that screws a paint job a few times on the same model. I liked the way you bounced back each time after faults and never gave up on quality! That's the way! Respect. Gabriel
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 that attention to detail is what I like a lot, I just started looking into model cars I like to get into it but I don't want anything that looks cheap.
Like you said, the base coat was too soft and it needed to harden before you kept going with the building. What I like to do is paint the body first so it cures while I work on the rest of the car. Too bad you had trouble with it, it still looks good. Great build
The thing is, car body was left to cure for more than a week, I bet even right now it is still soft. Cause it is Tamiya acrylic paint, can't really do anything about it.
Just for future reference, when you damaged the hood decal, I'm guessing it didn't set right and there was parts lifting and it was scratched or bent and the decal ripped, this has happened to me before and I recommend using microsoft first then once the decal is on, use microset and smooth it with a qtip. I haven't watched any other model videos of yours and I think this could be a life saver, it helped me. If you can't find those, the tamiya decal solution would work fine as that's what I use. It has the yellow bottle compared to the green glue ones
The finished build looks great, shame about the problems you encountered but well done for soldiering on with it. What is a brand of the paintbrush you're using for the dor window surrounds please? I like the look of that with the thicker handle.
Hey there! loved the video, just curious how many coats i should use if I'm going to hand paint the model instead of airbrushing. I hope you can also answer any other questions i might have! Thank you for your time :)
Hi, what kind of paint it will be? Acrylics or enamel? What brand ? White color is one of the most difficult color to brush on, 3 to 6 coats usually. But other problems will come up, with lots of layers you will be loosing details ant panel lines. I recommend spray can for car body painting, for interior brushes are fine.
Thinking of getting one of these initial d model kits, but I'm guessing I'm going to need some glue? Coming mostly from a "snap build" , panel lining, gundam background, is it difficult to build these model kits?
Not difficult at all, but result will greatly differ from your tools. If you want a nice model - you can't get away with only assembly and some touch ups. Glue, sanding sticks & some paint is essential for this model :) If you doing good with gundams: assembly not gonna scare you, but unpainted car models looks like toys :(
I'll like to add, be prepared to make some mistakes in your firsts models... so, I suggest to start with a not so expensive model, for learning purposes, and enjoy...
Its hard to use the glue especially on those add-on white panels when you have shaky hands :( . I messed up both of the sides due to the glue melting the plastic
I never measure exact ratios,I just do it by eye. Till it flows nicely. It depends on pressure you are going to use, your nozzle type, needle size and ect... For brush painting I use about 2:1 sometimes 1:1, depends of room temperature.
Simple models I use tamiya acrylics like you did and I can't get it to the right consistency it's either too diluted it runs or too thick it struggles to go through my air brush. I run a compressor but a budget suction airbrush does the fact it's suction not gravity fed make a difference to performance?
Bottom feed needs more air pressure to suck paint up. But If you can't make it work, you better start with 1st option - thin paint that runs, but apply them in light misty coats, work more with trigger and don't rely on paint so much :)
gave up after 5 hours on being stuck on the 2nd step. cant find any how to guide online just people painting them. stress me out so much. to confusing lol
For fine detailing I use Harder & Steenbeck ULTRA with 0.2 needle (cause it has small color cup , only 2ml) for big areas and metallic paint I use Chinese airbrushes that I covered in my other videos.
