I prefer the apc rinse method in my mobile detail operation. The South Florida weather is very unforgiving. This method is much more effective and efficient. It provides better results and the sealant lasts much longer. My maintenance times are decreased and clients love the results. Happy clients = $$$. 🍻

The only difference is that the APC-methode strips your car's protection (after a few washes)/stains the chrome/dry out plastics and rubber. The BH AF is for maintenance only and safe for the protection of the car.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 3 года назад
That’s true. That’s why we only use APC rinsing on vehicles that haven’t been detailed in a while....which is 90% of our work. If used every single wash, your right, it could strip and dry out paint, rubber, etc. I think many Pope how we use the BH AF as a pre wash for dirty vehicles, that’s why so many have suggested it. Plus they watch tons of other Detailers use it on really nasty vehicles that have not been cleaned in some time. So that’s why I had to make the distinction and show the results. 😎👍🏼

Is super clean safe for an apc pre wash? Just curious because I wanted to try the method but also want to keep cost low and it’s always readily available. Was thinking either that or Meguiars apc. Wanted to test it on my car but it’s black and I’m scared haha. Love the vids btw!
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 10 месяцев назад
Hi. Yes we have been using super clean for years. We dilute it 1:10 so it’s safe. Just use logic and don’t let it dry on the paint. If it ever stains it’s easily polished out. But I rarely rinse into that. If staining happening it usually means the paint has issues. It’s also better to use a foamer instead of just spraying it on. The foam clings and it doesn’t dry as fast.

Phil, do you have a rule of thumb dilution ratio when it comes to using a new apc and/or degreaser? I don't know that it can be a one size fits all but I often have thought 10:1 is a safe starting point.

Aren’t APC’s higher on the PH scale and more acidic though? I ask because I don’t want to be too hard on my ceramic coating.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 3 месяца назад
Hi. High ph is alkaline and not acidic. Low ph would acidic. However I don’t use apc rinsing for maintenance washing. It’s only for initial details. For ceramic coatings you don’t need that aggressive of a cleaner if you’re washing it regularly. Just a good shampoo will work fine.

Do you now, APC rinse, every car, every time Phil? Snow foams alone really do next to nothing for cleaning. I was looking into a higher ph foam like Koch Chemie AF (9.5) ph. But they manufacturer and detailers say don't use it for every wash??
@MirandaDetailing

To each their own. I will say that for a tough prewash, using the Auto Foam in an 8:1 solution is very thin. Try at least 2:1 or 1:1. Not saying that you should switch your method, just pointing out for those interested that in order to compare apples to apples, 8:1 is quite thin for an APC style wash stage.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 2 года назад
Hi. Yeah I did in another video. I used it 1:1 and still thin. But I believe it’s supposed to be that way. Either way it’s way to expensive to use here in the US. Not worth it for us. I know our UK detailers love it because it’s cheap for them.

@@MirandaDetailing thanks for clearing it up. I just think its safer for beginners because from what i heard sofar if you make a mistake with apc it does more damage faster having it on too long or something. Im just trying to learn and believe in measure twice cut once so once i know what to do ill do it right first time 😁. Another thing can i add a cap of apc to a wash shampoo to give it extra power or can i cause a chemical reaction that could damage paint note everything is before contact wash

I hear some detailers talk about how rinsing with just water on a dirty vehicle may cause scratches from the abrasion of the water pushing the dirt into the paint. I get so frustrated cause it feels like I need SO many methods and products to just wash my car safely at home... I think some detailers need to focus on the "KISS" method so that people wont get so frustrated and actually not be afraid to wash their own vehicles. I notice your videos are a lot less strict on what NEEDS to be done and you're more focused on what works for you and keeping it as simple as possible. Here's to hoping my $500 setup is good enough to wash my brand new car this week. First time ever washing my cars myself without going to those awful car washes! 😆
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing Год назад
Yeah I used to drive myself nuts thinking the same thing…until a really thought about it. Many detailers follow others without actually using proper thinking abilities. I think about this: when driving at higher speeds and you drive through mud or dirt, it will wipe across your paint at high speeds….already causing scratches. Rising with water will not push it into the paint causing the scratches, the scratches are already there from driving! Nobody acknowledges this! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. That’s when I started thinking for myself and teaching others to do the same. 😎👍🏼

From your video, I noticed you were very close to the vehicle with the pressure washer spray. Are you just blasting contaminants off that we’re not totally softened. Are you worried about damaging the finish? Here’s a thought: Spray APC on a dry vehicle. Let it dwell for 2 -3 minutes. Do Not Rinse! Apply a liberal coating of a quality car wash snow foam over the APC. Let the combination dwell according to manufacturers recommendation. Now rinse. Re-apply a second snow foam for your contact wash method. Finish as normal.

My opinion, having detailed for the past 22 years, owning numerous vehicles and working on plenty over the years. If the vehicle has a good layer of protection then a foam or soap pre-wash is adequate. If the vehicle does not have good protection then an APC pre-wash is preferred. It really comes down to how prepared and slick the paint is as to whether you need to use harsher chemicals to break down bonded contaminants.

APC rinse all the way for cars that are neglected and/or are getting a sealant or coating anyway. I use the on board detergent tank on my pressure washer to spray APC on the lower half of the car (door handles down). If it's a cool day, ill spray apc all at once, let it sit for a few minutes, and then follow up with snowfoam on the rest of car. Finally pressure wash rinse the whole thing, this is all as a pre-wash step before doing a contact wash. I find that in most cases, this process removes most of the loose contaminates from the surface and just leaves me a light layer road down the sides of the car to deal with.

@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 3 года назад
Exactly. I have found out through experience that many of these “big dogs” of detailing don’t really hustle at detailing to make a living anymore. Guys like Larry for Ammo, Mike Philips from Autogeek and other are amazing and I have learned tons form them. We have implemented many of their methods but, we have found that some methods are unnecessary, they are just shown as options, not as a “rule of detailing”. Detailers have to make up their own minds and find what works for them and never accuse others of not “detailing correctly”. When those accusations fly it really breaks down the detailing community and causes Detailers to stop thinking for themselves, they now are forced to abide by these “dogmatic detailers” who are really just bully’s. It will show their true colors. So I will always be a realist and show the truth even if others bully us, I actively fight it to help others think for themselves! 😎👍🏼

Quick question from an enthusiast . you pre rinse before applying extra tuff doesn`t this doesn`t this reduce extra tuff affectedness with water being on vehicle already ? Thank You As always great info, you helped this enthusiast out of the rabbit hole of you tube detailer's.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 3 года назад
Hi. Nope it doesn’t reduce the effectiveness at all. It’s safer to pre rinse in our opinion because if any APC drops down on dry paint it can leave drip marks. It’s not a huge deal becasue even if some APC stains paint it can polished out with ease. But we eliminate that risk all together by pre rinsing. Since we mix our APC rinse 1:4 it’s strong enough to work even with some water be on the paint already.

I guess you would consider using a mitt to spread the apc evenly over the surface with a little hand pressure (after spraying it on) as just a wasted effort??? Also, using the pump sprayer guarantees the mix ratio on the surface to be exactly 1/4. Does using 1/4 in a foam pressure washer actually dilute the ratio due to all the water used?
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 2 года назад
Hi So before we actually contact wash or touch the paint with any mitts or towels we do this pre-wash or APC rinse. We don't want to agitate anything until the APC has time to dwell and be rinsed off taking the majority of grit and grime away with it. Using the separate pump bottle does ensure exact ratios, while using the foam cannon it dilutes it more and its hard to get exact measures with it.

If I'm doing a APC rinse, do you think doing snow foam, rinsing, then doing a contact wash with the 2 bucket method as the third step overkill? Or is doing a APC rinse then foam and straight to contact wash enough and will achieve the same results
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 2 года назад
Hi. So the APC rinse replaces the typical snow foam so you don’t need do that if you’re doing the APC rinse. Also we don’t have two buckets for washing. We foam and contact wash right after the APC rinse. We have tried it multiple ways and found our method is fast, safe, and efficient for us.

The foam on auto foam seems really weak in the foam canon in your video, being in U.K we do a pre wash and rinse then contact wash with 2 buckets, I use auto foam all the time at around 2-4% panel impact ratio which means we have to use a lot of product but it’s cheap enough so no big deal , normally need around 500ml product to reach the highest PIR ratio but normally I use around 300ml to 700ml water which is around 2-3% PiR

Do you handle and price these differently? TY
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 3 года назад
You're Welcome, the customer doesn't care about the truck box and told us not to worry about it. but because it is a textured spray if they wanted us to clean it we would simply wash with a soft brush and thats it. most times we see covers and liners that are in work trucks and they can be cleaned more aggressively, apc, soft wheel brush and thats it. sometimes soft tonneau covers we wash with a seperate mitt or MF towel, dry, and apply 303 Aerospace on it.

I do have another video coming out soon where we used the BH AF in the ik foamer abour 1:4ish and it does work well on a nasty vehicle with mildew build up. But once again, having another product for pre washing isn't needed at all. Its nice and works and everything, but why spend money on that when our APC rinse method is fast and more cost effective? We counted all the costs and this is better for us and many others who have tried it. We have tried so many different APC's and soaps before and its all the same, so we choose the ones that are cost effective. No need to try everything people suggest to us. After many years we realize that it comes down to personal choice and technique.

@@MirandaDetailing that’s fair enough, as I’m in the UK I only pay £17 for 5 litres, the dilution can be an issue if you need the cleaning power and are looking at nearly a 50/50 mix. We also have another snow foam that matches it for cleaning power but at a lower dilution, only problem I find with that one is it doesn’t rinse too freely and you can find if in the door jambs etc. We also only pay £17 for 5 litres of Surfex HD which is a great APC, strong but with no caustic chemicals. If you get the chance of a freebie you should give it a try.

Came out pretty decent. I do wonder if APC foam cannon spray takes off any wax or sealants from the paint surface?

@@MirandaDetailing Thanks for the reply. I also have a detailing business & use Super Clean for various tasks. I like to use it for a prewash too and most of the time it never does any damage but I did have an instance on an older car where it ate through the clear coat even when diluted. I’ve also seen it remove dye from leather on older vehicles when used on the interior even when diluted 1:16. I used Super Clean diluted at 1:8 as a prewash on my AMG C63S and even though i let it dwell for only about a min in the shade it actually etched into my glass roof and ate the clear on my door handles. Super Clean is a great degreaser but it’s sketchy to use on certain surfaces even when diluted, but like you said there are so many factors and variables to consider. Most of the time it works with no issues, but every now & then I’ve had it cause an issue here and there & at a certain point of dilution, it’s like this is mostly water now & I might as well use something that’s a bit more safe for this surface that doesn’t need to be diluted so heavily… I was just curious to know if you’ve ever had any issues with it. Love your channel and your vids, they’re what helped me start my own detailing business. I think it’s awesome how you and your wife detail together, nothing more wholesome than that.
